[Bug 243400] Re: GVFS fails to connect to non-openSSH server using sftp://
Well, I applied the Intrepid patch above, and now I can connect to my problem server and browse the folder hierarchy. However, the connection seems to fail as soon as I attempt to open a file. At that point, nothing further works, including folder browsing, until I unmount the server and remount it. Here is my log of /usr/lib/gvfs/gvfsd -r while connecting to the server and opening a file: Actually, never mind, because as soon as I decided to report this, the server straightened out and started working. [Bug 330347] [NEW] Full screen visualization should disable screen saver?
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: rhythmbox Since the fullscreen visualization in Rhythmbox is pretty much a screensaver in its own right, it seems that it would be appropriate for Rhythmbox to inhibit the screensaver starting while it is displaying a full screen visualization, and also possibly while it is in party mode. [Bug 34629] Re: Copy-paste with mouse wheel fails
Lightbreeze, the steps to reproduce should be more specific: 1) Select some text, thus copying it to the primary copy-paste-buffer-thingy. 2) *Left* click somewhere on the document, thus clearing the selection. 3) Click mouse wheel (middle click). Many people (myself included) like to perform step 2 before step 3 as a matter of course, because performing step 2 will place the cursor where you clicked. You can then verify that the cursor ends up exactly where you wanted to paste, before pasting. This avoids having to undo because you pasted one character off. The problem occurs because GTK applications apparently attempt to synchronize the primary copy-paste-buffer-thingy with the *visible* selection, so that clearing the latter also clears the former. For many people, this synchronization is an unexpected and unwanted behavior, especially because it is not consistent with the behavior of most other (non-GTK) applications. -- Copy-paste with mouse wheel fails https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/34629 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 200834] Re: unkillable defunct program with popup menu disables all input
There are two steps to reproduce this. The first is to find a way to make a GTK program block on I/O. This most often happens to me when I am using a media player (specifically Quod Libet) to access my music collection over sshfs (the sftp fuse filesystem). If the network is disconnected unexpectedly, then any program that subsequently tries to access a file on an sshfs filesystem blocks indefinitely. Once you do that, it only remains to have open the sort of window that closes when you click outside of it. (Are these called transient?) Examples include volume sliders and dropdown menus. Then, have the program block on I/O while this window is open. For example, start playing a song over sshfs, open a dropdown menu, and then unplug the ethernet cord or stop the sshd on the server or otherwise cause an unexpected disruption. Since these kind of windows monopolize all input until they are closed, and since they cannot use any input while the program blocks on I/O, all further input has no effect, and the X server must be restarted. (This implies that the X shortcuts, like ctrl-alt- backspace, ctrl-alt-F1, etc., still work.) Note that the X server does not freeze. Other programs continue working as normal; only input is disabled. I wonder if you could make a program that artificially blocks on I/O just to test this, like maybe read from a FIFO to which nothing is ever written? -- unkillable defunct program with popup menu disables all input https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/200834 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 330347] [NEW] Full screen visualization should disable screen saver?

[Bug 200834] [NEW] unkillable defunct program with popup menu disables all input
Public bug reported: If a gtk process blocks for I/O while a menu or volume slider is active, then all input is completely disabled until the application becomes responsive again. If that process happens to be blocking on I/O that will never arrive (e.g. a disconnected network filesystem), then it effectively disables the entire X session, forcing a control+alt+backspace, even though all other applications are still running fine. ** Affects: gtk+2.0 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- unkillable defunct program with popup menu disables all input https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/200834 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gtk+2.0 in ubuntu.
[Bug 243400] [NEW] GVFS fails to connect to ssh.com server using sftp://
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gvfs $ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 8.04.1 Release:8.04 I connect regularly to several servers via ssh. I've been using sshfs (which uses sftp) to access the files on this server, but I would like to switch to gvfs to enable better integration with the desktop. In my experimentation, I've found that one and only one of the servers that I connect to will not mount via the sftp transport of gvfs. It just so happens that this is the only server that runs an ssh.com server (ssh.com is another implementation of ssh). All the other servers run openssh. Needless to say, ssh, sftp, and sshfs all work fine with the offending server, and I have my public key installed at each server to allow passwordless logins everywhere.

Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-applets When compiz is enabled, any drawer in the panel takes about one second to open. It seems as if the Drawer is waiting for Compiz to finish its "create window" animation for the drawer before expanding, but there's no actual animation - the drawer just sits there closed for about a full second before opening. This is annoying, as the purpose of the panel is to provide *quick* access to things. ** Affects: gnome-applets (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Drawer takes long time to appear when using Compiz https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/152451 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for gnome-applets in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 152455] Shortcut should focus an unfocused dialog, not close it
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: deskbar-applet Steps to reproduce: * open the deskbar search window * focus another window, so that the deskbar window loses focus * press the shortcut to focus the Deskbar window again Result: rather than refocusing, the deskbar will close. This is especially confusing when the deskbar window is already obscured, in which case nothing appears to happen. ** Affects: deskbar-applet (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Shortcut should focus an unfocused dialog, not close it https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/152455 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for deskbar-applet in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 152514] middle click paste doesn't work after deselecting
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gedit In Gedit, Scribes, and probably any other program that uses the same GTK text area for it's editing buffer, copy-and-paste by highlighting the source and then middle clicking at the destination only works if you leave the source text highlighted. Deselecting the source text clears the middle-click-pase buffer, so if no text is selected, none will be pasted. This is inconsistent with the behavior of most programs, and causes a fair amount of annoyance. ProblemType: Bug Architecture: i386 Date: Sat Oct 13 23:47:42 2007 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 7.10 ExecutablePath: /usr/bin/gedit Package: gedit 2.20.1-0ubuntu3 PackageArchitecture: i386 ProcCmdline: gedit ProcCwd: /home/ryan ProcEnviron: PATH=/home/ryan/bin:~/bin:/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/games LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: gedit Uname: Linux bigbrick 2.6.22-14-generic #1 SMP Wed Oct 10 06:00:47 GMT 2007 i686 GNU/Linux ** Affects: gedit (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: apport-bug -- middle click paste doesn't work after deselecting https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/152514 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for gedit in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
