[Bug 475845] [NEW] delay on printing dialog in evince

2009-11-05 Thread David Tombs
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

When I open the printing dialog in Evince, there is a ~10s delay after
the dialog opens while it says "Getting printer information..." during
which the whole Evince UI is unresponsive.

Steps to reproduce:
1) Open a PDF in Evince.
2) File -> Print...
3) 10% of the time, print dialog opens and is responsive as expected. 90% of
the time...
4) Print dialog freezes for ~10s during while it says "Getting printer
information..." in the status column. (Sometimes it freezes a bit earlier,
after the dialog appears but before it paints its controls.)
5) After delay, printing works as expected.

I have one Canon MP160 printer.

Please let me know if I can provide any more information.

Is this really a duplicate of 290204? This bug seems to focus on the

beeps might be an indication of a deeper problem, and I'd hate for the
information here to get lost just because we blacklist pcspkr.

gvfs can? If so, I wonder why gthumb gets there first on some machines

[Bug 388778] [NEW] gnome-appearance-properties theme switching behaves oddly

2009-06-17 Thread David Tombs
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

Normally on my system, Appearance Properties theme switching works just
fine. However, for some reason (I don't remember why) I switched themes
using gtk-theme-switcher2. After I did that gnome-appearance-properties
will switch the theme, but the GTK elements are not switched, resulting
in an ugly, unexpected theme clash.

This seems to be because ~/.gtkrc-2.0 (set by gtk-theme-switcher2)
overrides what is set in gnome-appearance-properties. While this makes
sense, it results in weird behavior.

I assigned this to gnome-appearance-properties because I think it should
alert the user to the conflict and possibly present the option to remove
the gtkrc file.

[Bug 285682] Re: Ubuntu 8.10 can't mount digital camera showing a window popup message: -60 could not lock the device message

2009-03-28 Thread David Tombs
Sebastian, perhaps I was not clear enough earlier. This is a bug! I
cannot access my photos from _any application_ unless I kill gvfs-
gphoto2-volume-monitor.

However, I have tracked down the bug a little more. If I plug in my
camera BEFORE turning it on, I get the bug. If I turn my camera on, and
THEN plug it in, I get the standard prompt and can browse my pictures.
Does everyone else have the same behavior?

To clarify for you, Sebastian, here are reproduction steps:

1) My camera is off.
2) I plug in my camera to USB.
3) I turn my camera on.
4) I wait one minute.
5) I get an error message popup saying "Unable to mount Nikon Corp. Coolpix
4600 (ptp)". (See attached screenshot.)
6) After that, "Nikon Corp. Coolpix 4600 (ptp)" is listed in Nautilus, but
double-clicking on it to browse pops up, "Unable to mount location". (See 2nd
attached screenshot.)

I hope this will convince you, Sebastian. I wish you would not be so
arrogant with your users.

This is a bug. The problem is that whatever app has it locked is not
letting go.
