[Bug 2060993] [NEW] Startup applications / gnome-session-properties does not persist between logins

2024-04-11 Thread David White
Public bug reported:

Having installed Guake I tried adding `/usr/bin/guake --hide` to Startup
Applications. However, it was not in the list of startup applications
when I next booted.

I tested logging off and logging on again and found it wasn't persisting
between logins.

Data I entered was:
Name: Guake
Command: /usr/bin/guake --hide
Comment: Guake terminal

I also tried just command=/usr/bin/guake

[Bug 2060575] Re: gnome-keyring fails to automatically unlock login keyring after recent updates in noble

2024-04-09 Thread David White
It seems that the usual password keyring called Login is not
automatically created in gnome-keyring. In fact there are no credentials
of any kind in there on logging in after a clean install.

If you change your password via the control panel, the login keyring is
then created.

However, when you reboot the Login keyring is not automatically
unlocked, as it should be. So, any items you have stored in there are
not accessible and you are asked for the password when a service needs
credentials from it.

[Bug 2060667] [NEW] No default keyring and does not unlock on login

2024-04-09 Thread David White
Public bug reported:

On a fresh install of Ubuntu 24.04 numbat, gnome-keyring does not seem
to be properly configured.

If I attempt to add an online account via settings > online accounts,
after authentication with the online account gnome-keyring prompts me to
create a default keyring because one does not exist yet, so I cancelled.

Opening gnome-keyring reveals there is no entry under Passwords when I
think there should be a "Login" password keyring that's automatically
unlocked on login.

Setting a new password via settings > system > users creates a new
Loging keyring. However, this keyring is not automatically unlocked on
login.

So, whenever I first use an app after login that uses a keyring, such as
connecting to Google drive via Nautilus, I'm prompted for the keyring
password.

[Bug 2033197] [NEW] ubuntu (perhaps its the gnome desktop) freezes every few seconds saying wait or force quit window then unfreezes, this still happens after reboot

2023-08-27 Thread David White
Public bug reported:

The windows for a number of apps e.g. Firefox or libreoffice etc freeze
momentarily and displays a message saying either click to wait or click
to force click the app which is not responding. After waiting a few
seconds the app becomes responsive again and again repeats in minutes.
Rebooting, updating and upgrading doesn't help. I check online and the
bug reports to see if others had the same problem.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a ".crash" file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

Now open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the
crash report you wish to submit.
If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with
'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is
the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed
to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug
/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 668929] [NEW] yahoo mail ok but exchange mail not showing body although sync several times

2010-10-30 Thread David White
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

I used to be able to read my yahoo and exchange mail in evolution and it
worked great for the a number of years, but as my mail files got larger
and larger it began to crawl (> 4g). I deleted a number of mails, and
some of the filters I had but with little improvement. Then a few days
ago I stopped receiving exchange altogether. I upgraded my os and
evolution to see if it would improve, and I now get the mail headers
but not the message bodies.

[Bug 197290] Re: 2 gb max inbox

2010-07-26 Thread David White
Hi everyone.

It appears this is still a problem in 10.04. Over the weekend my
evolution stopped receiving email in my inbox, checked the directory and
found the file size was greater than 2 gb. So I archived the mails,
deleted the original files, and restarted evolution but this did not
work, nor did removing the account. So I just reinstalled evolution and
thats working now. Is there a fix yet?

[Bug 300802] [NEW] URL support broken or removed?

2008-11-21 Thread david white
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: eog

older versions supported HTTP URLs as [FILE...] argument

using eog v2.22.3 on ubuntu hardy (8.04.1)
 ~$ eog --version
GNOME eog 2.22.3

 ~$ eog http://chart.finance.yahoo.com/c/1y/m/mvl

displays the image (PNG file) as expected

using eog v2.24.1 on ubuntu intrepid (8.10)

 ~$ eog --version
GNOME eog 2.24.1
 ~$ eog http://chart.finance.yahoo.com/c/1y/m/mvl

this displays an error in the eog window:

   No images found in 'http://chart.finance.yahoo.com/c/1y/m/mvl'.

however

 ~$ wget http://chart.finance.yahoo.com/c/1y/m/mvl -O mvl.png
 ~$ eog mvl.png

works as expected

I verified that URLs pointing to jpg or gif images also fail, so it
appears to be a general problem with the URL scheme, and not an image
format problem.

Has URL support been removed or is it just broken? There's nothing in
the release notes indicating removal (but maybe I missed it).
