[Bug 1942355] [NEW] app icons briefly flash before being replaced by icons swooping in

2021-09-01 Thread Matthew Derrick

when clicking on the 'show applications' button, all the apps show up
for about a half-second before disappearing and then being replaced by
the animation of the apps swooping in from the 'show applications'
button. not a huge deal, just a display bug.

I can confirm. I am running Lubuntu 13.10, and I get the same error
message on the Iphone (4S, running IOS 7), asking if I trust the
computer. Tapping Trust over and over is an endless cycle. On the
ubuntu machine, The error message The Device named Iphone is locked.
Enter the passcode on the device and click Try Again. Is there any ETA

[Bug 160311] Re: Resizing windows by grabbing window borders is difficult

2012-05-02 Thread Derrick Coetzee
This problem or some related problem has come back for me after the
12.04 upgrade. On my 1920 x 1080 screen I am unable to click and drag on
the lower-left, bottom, lower-right, left, or right resize handles at
all, even if the resize mouse cursor is displayed. I can click and drag
on the top-left, top, top-right handles with no trouble. This problem
occurs when running in VMware but I don't remember having the same issue
when running in native - might have to do with Unity2D vs Unity.

I was tired when I first posted this bug. It turns out, this is a
problem with using cat to record from a PVR device (cat /dev/video0
/home/$USER/video.mpeg). Because the resulting file is without
pertinent header info, Nautilus freaks out when trying to get its
properties.

[Bug 416058] [NEW] Cannot raise windows from Java (toFront) - meta_window_same_application improvement

2009-08-19 Thread Derrick Rice
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: metacity

metacity 2.22.0 and others (package metacity 2.22.0-0ubuntu4)
Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron and others

Gnome bug report: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=567528
Java bug report: http://bugs.sun.com/view_bug.do?bug_id=6472274

Java windows cannot be brought to the front of the screen because they
are not identified as belonging to the same application by Metacity.
Specifically, they do not have the same group. However, they do have
the same leader. By expanding the behavior of
meta_window_same_application, Java windows can be raised as expected.

Yes, this is a bug filed against Java, but it is not likely going to be fixed
because:
 * It works for other window managers, including compiz, which have more
advanced criteria for allowing windows to be raised.
 * The Java spec says that it should move windows to the top, but doesn't
have to.

There is a simple patch supplied in the linked Gnome bug report (it
doesn't work directly for 2.22, but the logic of the change can be
used). This patch has not received attention from the Gnome team but is
very small and relatively harmless. This should be included in the
Ubuntu Metacity package until Gnome takes the change.

I don't see any harm in this change, but I also don't have a very
intimate understanding of what meta_window_same_application is used for
besides window raise behavior.

[Bug 325414] Re: totem-gstreamer-video-thumbnailer crashed with SIGSEGV in memset()

2009-03-08 Thread Derrick Neve
I just got totem-gstreamer-video-thumbnailer crashed with SIGSEGV in
memset(). I was not running totem (as far as I know) but had just
emptied the trash and had clicked to close the window when I got this
message. I'm sorry but I don't have much more to say. Recent update
from 8.10 to 9.04 (but I'm going back or I'll never get any work done)

Happy hunting!

Derrick
