[Bug 1852183] Re: [X11] copy/paste (clipboard) is broken in Ubuntu 19.10

2019-12-23 Thread Don Pierson
To add to my earlier comment, it also happens when copying between
Ubuntu applications. In this case, a rather poor workaround is to copy
twice or even three times which usually will eventually grab the text
being copied.

[Bug 1852183] Re: [X11] copy/paste (clipboard) is broken in Ubuntu 19.10

2019-12-22 Thread Don Pierson
Often cannot copy and paste between Notepad++ and Firefox or even
Terminal. If I open GEdit, I can paste there, then copy again which
seems to be a workaround though not a very good one.

[Bug 1774188] Re: Unlocking the screen takes 5 seconds in Xorg sessions (not so much in Wayland sessions)

2019-10-26 Thread Don Morrison
I see this, too, on two different machines (one at home, one at work),
both desktops with two monitors. Though for me the delay is usually
longer then five seconds. The duration of the delay seems to increase
with how long the machine's been up since its last reboot. This was not
present when I first installed 18.04 a year ago, but seems to have
arisen with some subsequent update.

[Bug 1563155] Re: No Application Data Found

2016-07-14 Thread Don Esposito
Additional info re: my comment above. I have Ubuntu 16.04 running on
two PCs, an Asus laptop and HP desktop. On 7/7 both were having this
issue but since then the laptop somehow self corrected after applying
updates a couple of days later. The desktop is still not working but
all updates have been run.

Side note: I discovered that if I run command sudo gnome-software from
terminal, Software Center opens with all applications showing normally.
Is that a viable workaround? I'm reluctant to try installing
applications that way because I don't want to have to run them as root.
Any thoughts?

[Bug 1513571] [NEW] List of options for Chinese input displayed as black frame

2015-11-05 Thread don caviare
Public bug reported:

Hello,
Thanks for developing fcitx!
I am on Lubuntu (Ubuntu 15.04 Vivid) + fcitx ui-light 0.1.3.2.
For some reason, no matter what input method I use for Chinese (pinyin, Google
pinyin, Wubi ...), the list of options for characters is always displayed as a
big black empty frame. Although the characters themselves can be typed in (see
screenshot attached), I can't view the characters I need to select...
I tried de-installing fcitx and re-installing, and I also installed compton
just in case (following the info on here:
http://askubuntu.com/questions/451095/lubuntu-14-04-and-fcitx-qimpanel-how-to-remove-this-black-square/451285#451285
and there: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2144468) -- but still no
joy.
Any advice?

Best,
DC

[Bug 1313415] Re: Dragging .desktop files on the Desktop attempts to copy, not reposition

2014-08-16 Thread Don Cady
I have a box that does the same, only more detail; [A] It was doing copies when
you initiated a move for .desktop files., only the .desktop extension was
dropped.
[B] It now produces the same error as above, with "Error opening file '/': Is a
directory" in "more details". I'm assuming that changed with some package
update[C].
Now the weird (but maybe forensicly helpful) part: It still does A with files
created before point C, but B with files created after C.

Also, this looks like a candidate for being a dupe of Bug #1245214

[Bug 792085] Re: Automatic remount of safely removed drive

2014-05-10 Thread Don Dennis
I have the bug on ubuntu 14.04 with my Seagate 1TB Backup plus extrnal hard
disk. I had the same problem with ubuntu 13.10 .
The drive automatically remounted after safely removal/ eject in a few seconds.
This behaviour was only with the USB 3 ports of my laptop. Connectd to the USB
2 ports, the harddsik spun down and powered off as it should have.

I even tried using udisks to do the same but the result was the same.

Hope this bug is assigned to someone soon. It has been almost an year
for me without a fix.

[Bug 828917] [NEW] When printing a pdf in duplex mode using Document Viewer 2.32.0, text is missing from every second page, horizontal lines are printed instead.

2011-08-18 Thread Don ter Beek
Public bug reported:

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'lsb_release -rd' or System ->
About Ubuntu
I am using 64 bit Ubuntu 10.10 (Maverick Meerkat).

2) The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy pkgname' or
by checking in Software Center
$apt-cache policy evince
evince:
  Installed: 2.32.0-0ubuntu1.1
  Candidate: 2.32.0-0ubuntu1.1
  Version table:
 *** 2.32.0-0ubuntu1.1 0
500 http://nl.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ maverick-updates/main amd64
Packages
500 http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ maverick-security/main amd64
Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
 2.32.0-0ubuntu1 0
500 http://nl.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ maverick/main amd64 Packages

3) What you expected to happen
I use this package to view .pdf files. I expected the .pdf I wanted to print to
be printed as it appears on the screen.

4) What happened instead
Every odd sheet is printed as it should, even sheets contain horizontal lines
as shown on the image file I attached. I use the words 'odd' and 'even' to
refer to the sheets printed (as opposed to: page numbers).

I opened the file using Foxit Reader in Windows XP Professional. Duplex
printing works as it should.

[Bug 818227] [NEW] keyboard login problem

2011-07-29 Thread Don Levin
Public bug reported:

A fairly new pc running 11.04 with latest updates and BIOS. During
login, each key must be depressed for about one second until a dot
appears. I reloaded 11.04 in June and it fixed this problem but weeks
later, after updates, it came back. All this occurred w/orig BIOS. I
updated BIOS (AFTER problems) but didn't fix it. I tried Sys sets >
Assis Tech > Keybrd and tried setting Only Accept Long Keypresses and
setting it short, but had no effect. I tried disabling gdm by "sudo
sys-rc-conf" and by gdm, put X under ALL run levels, rebooted and no
effect ie same gui with slow key read. Swapped keyboards, no change.
My other pc, running 11.04, works ok. It's 1.5 years old, the problem
one is only 6 months old. After login, keyboard works perfect.

1024 x 768 isn't enough. A lot of netbooks and tablets are 1024 x 600.
The point is, do NOT design it to work only above a minimum size. It
should automatically add scrollbars (or be resizable from any corner)
when it's below a certain size so you can still view all content and
buttons.

[Bug 376267] Re: Under View, Sort Images, manual order is grayed out

2011-05-19 Thread Don Myers
I just installed GThumb from the software center in Natty. Since I
didn't have a working GThumb that served my purposes, I have been using
a windows program called Faststone Image Viewer in Wine relatively
successfully (there are a few quirks). It is very important to me to be
able to sort the particular order of pictures, and then to rename them
in the new order. When I click on View, then Sort By with the present
GThumb in Natty, there is not any selection any longer for a manual
sort.

[Bug 23810] Re: Evolution is unusable in 1024x768

2011-03-28 Thread Don Rhummy
I don't understand everyone's solutions here. The solution is NOT to set
the size to XXX height, but to have the program query for the screen
size and then choose a height based on that. My screen (a netbook) is
only 600 pixels tall. But there may be others with even smaller screens,
or others that are bigger.

What should happen is the window should use a Viewport that has
scrollbar capabilities. If the components in the viewport are larger
than the height of the viewport, it'll shows scrollbars. But the
viewport will be no taller than whatever the screensize is. Why isn't it
done this way?

[Bug 709945] [NEW] Ping does not work in network Tools

2011-01-29 Thread Don McCollum
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-nettool

I can not ping in network tools but can in terminal.

All other functions seem to work fine.

Also network tools doesn't keep the last ip address in the clipboard
like 8.04.

I am using 10.10 from 8.04.
Any help would be great.
Thanks..

[Bug 701277] [NEW] Open messages in 'Inbox' folder and the screen opens with no verbiage or graphics

2011-01-10 Thread Don
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

I open a message shown in the 'Inbox' folder and I get a new screen with
nothing in it. No verbiage - No graphics (even after Ctrl + I)

To delete messages in the 'Inbox' folder I have to go to another folder
e.g. 'Trash' and back to the 'Inbox' folder for the delete to happen.
Sometimes no messages are shown in the "Inbox" floder when I do that, I
have to do it more than once.

[Bug 697280] Re: evince crashed with SIGSEGV in ev_pixbuf_cache_set_selection_list()

2011-01-09 Thread Don CristΓ³bal
Charlie: No, I can't reliably reproduce this, and I can't give clear
information on what I was doing to cause the crash. There were several
opened pdf files (like the one here:
http://www.admin.ch/ch/d/sr/c142_20.html I don't know exactly which,
directly opened from Firefox) and when I switched back to evince from
another application, evince crashed. That might confirm what Chrescht
guesses about the automatic refreshing of displayed pdf files.

I don't know if under these circumstances you'll want to keep the bug
report open.

[Bug 515139] Re: Icons from gnome panel are missing at random on startup

2010-09-04 Thread Don Myers
I've installed Ubuntu on about 20 machines, and have never seen or heard
about this until tonight. One person who I did an install for wrote me
and said he couldn't find trash anywhere. I wrote back and sent him a
screen shot of my desktop showing him where it was, and also told him
how to find it through using places. He just sent me a screenshot of his
desktop, and trash does not appear in the panel or anywhere on his
desktop, nor does it appear in the menu section either. He is going to
try adding trash applet to the panel and see if that works.

[Bug 583911] Re: bad flag alias index & bad flag vector alias errors

2010-06-10 Thread Don Schoeman
I'm not sure that dumping the whole dmesg result would provide any help,
I only noticed some similar non-informational error messages at the end
of the dmesg result:

[ 56.296848] end_request: I/O error, dev fd0, sector 0
[ 68.468828] end_request: I/O error, dev fd0, sector 0

There is nothing wrong with my HDD though even though it may seem so
looking at those errors.

[Bug 325157] Re: I could not empty the trash folder

2010-05-31 Thread Don Manyette
While I cannot be certain, at least on my machine, it appears that one
of the recent downloads (perhaps one of the "lib" files) has cured this
problem. It was consistent on my machine, and now it has not appeared
for 5 days. Perhaps a poll of others affected could confirm or deny?

[Bug 583911] [NEW] bad flag alias index & bad flag vector alias errors

2010-05-21 Thread Don Schoeman
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gedit

This problem most probably is not only related to gedit but I noticed it
in gedit first.

When a file is saved to harddrive, gedit seems to hang for a few seconds
(this happens even when saving very small text files). When running
gedit from the terminal the following errors floods the terminal while
the applications "hangs":

error: line xx: bad flag alias index: 0
error: line xx: bad flag vector alias

The file is still saved after these errors but the period of non-responsiveness
is annoying. This did not happen on prior versions of Ubuntu. I noticed similar
errors reported as per Bug #578917 for the software-center package.

[Bug 507189] Re: Mahjongg: 3 pairs of same tile, w/screenshot

2010-01-13 Thread Don J.
Out of curiosity, I replayed the same seed while checking off the tiles
on the postmodern.svg in gimp to determine which non-blue non-gold tile
was skipped, and it was the green character after the red Zhong (δΈ),
which only appeared in one pair.

The blue winter tiles appeared as only one of each 1 2 3 4.
The gold summer tiles appeared as: 1, 2, 3, 3, 4, 4.

I realize this is likely trivial, and that it may not be a bug at all
and just a rare random result of the drawing algorithm, but I felt it
might be of interest to some.

[Bug 507189] [NEW] Mahjongg: 3 pairs of same tile, w/screenshot

2010-01-13 Thread Don J.
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-games

Not sure if this was a memory error on my end, or a code issue (haven't
read the code), but I just received a 'seed' with six of the same tile.
I played the game out after taking the attached screenshot and noticed
no other strange behavior other than the temporary formation of several
small black holes, which quickly disappeared. Hopefully the diagnostic
information will help.

[Bug 476107] Re: Ubuntu Studio new install fails if not connected to the internet

2009-11-05 Thread Don
Figuring out how to report new bugs was not extremely hard, but it was
not trivial either. You may be missing lots of potentially important
input.

Grub 2 is SO DIFFERENT. I would be useful to make it really easy to
find a simple howto for things like changing your default boot system,
timeout, etc. Again, not extremely hard but far from trivial. Who
knows ... maybe it would be easier for new users than existing grub who
thought they knew what they were looking for.

[Bug 476107] [NEW] Ubuntu Studio new install fails if not connected to the internet

2009-11-05 Thread Don
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: yelp

I tried installing both the 64bit and 32 bit versions of Ubuntu Studio 9.10 on
my Dell XPS Studio 13 Laptop. Both failed the same way.
 BACKGROUND
I had previously successfully installed 9.04. My hard drive was partitioned to
allow dual boot with Vista. Instead of "upgrading" I tried treating the
process as a new install, and I manually instructed the disk partitioning phase
of the install to reformat the old etx3 partition I had used as root / on 9.04
as ext4 (also to be mounted as my new root /).

Since I normally use my wifi internet connection I skipped the network
configuration part of booting (since the dhcp attempt would fail anyway
due to my WAP set up). Although I did not try it, I think it would have
failed even if I manually tried to enter the correct WAP settings since
I needed the "non-opensource Broadcom drivers" to get my WIFI device
working. I recommend a more robust install script to determine if
special drivers are needed during install and to support the option of
using them (or at least detect that it will not work and gracefully
bypass network config with helpful messages about what to do after
install to get wireless working). But that is not my bug.

At some point during the software installation phase (both 32 bit and 64
bit versions), there was an error. I never got detailed feedback about
what failed (bad for you - bad for me). The installer did give me the
option to retry or attempt to continue but I could not make any further
progress - all attempts ended up with the same result. I ultimately had
to force a restart. Because this error ocurred after my old EXT 3
partition had been reformatted but before the new bootloader was
installed, I could no longer reboot from my hard drive.

Another attempt to run the installer while connected physically to my
router with an ehternet cable worked fine.

Note - there was no damage to my other partitions. In particular my
Vista partition was undamaged or changed. Nevertheless, I regard this
as a serious bug or limitation. Novice users might easily have panicked
when they got to a point where they could no longer boot from their hard
drive, thinking the only way out was to re-image the disk (thus loosing
all their files).

[Bug 390364] Re: unable to connect to newer Mac OS X computers using ARD 3.1+ or bonjour screensharing

2009-08-18 Thread Don Tirrell
with respect to vinagre 2.24.1 vnc control of most macs configured via
ard client will fail - screen sharing seems to work well enough but is
disabled on my servers

Please note that I installed Ubuntu 8.10 Server on a G5 Xserve and once
logged into the server - after config (Vino remote desktop server) I
was able to control the 8..10 server remotely via ARD 3.2.2 on a MacBook
Pro (also worked with JollyFast 0.98.36) - however after logging out of
the the Ubuntu server I was not able to control the server remotely -
since it appears that the remote vnc server service is not a daemon...I
know other vnc servers can run in the background - I'm now looking into
the how to for this setup

[Bug 367658] Re: evolution calendar from 8.10 not read in 9.04

2009-06-07 Thread Don Estberg
This problem no longer exists in Evolution 2.6.1-0ubuntu2 2009-05-15,
which I installed in a recent update. Previously I saw no events on my
calendar, now I see them all. I compared my previous calendar.ics file
in ~/.evolution/calendar/local/system to the current one, and the only
difference is the positions of the two VTIMEZONE records are now
interchanged. Maybe it is unusual to have two of these records, and
when there are two of these records their order is significant. Note
that the gnome bug 580477 that I created on 2009-04-27 no longer exists.

[Bug 376267] [NEW] Under View, Sort Images, manual order is grayed out

2009-05-13 Thread Don Myers
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gthumb

I have been unable to figure out how to be able to use the View, Sort
Images, Manual order option. It is grayed out nad I haven't been able to
figure out a way to use it. I make quite a few slide shows for
commercial use and generally sort though 3 times more pictures than I
use, and also put them in a particular order before renaming them. I hd
a windows program which did this nicely. If I had the manual sort, I'm
sure your program would do it also.

I'm running Ubuntu 9.04, but it was the same with Ubuntu 8.10.

[Bug 367658] [NEW] evolution calendar from 8.10 not read in 9.04

2009-04-26 Thread Don Estberg
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

I started using evolution on a system that I had upgraded to ubuntu 9.04
by restoring from an evolution backup made on another system running
8.10. The email folders were restored fine. However no events are
shown by calendar.

The file ~/.evolution/calendar/local/system/calendar.ics is
read/writeable and has the same size and sum as on the 8.10 system. I
tried restarting evolution and calendar a half a dozen times, resulting
nothing on my calendar, a message on the bottom line of the window

Opening file:///home/dge/.evolution/calendar/local/system (...)

the following processes running

dge 13831 1 0 13:53 ?00:00:00
/usr/lib/evolution/2.26/evolution-alarm-notify
--oaf-activate-iid=OAFIID:GNOME_Evolution_Calendar_AlarmNotify_Factory:2.26
--oaf-ior-fd=29
dge 16022 4643 0 15:32 pts/100:00:00 evolution -c calendar
--debug=/home/dge/.evolution/debug.log
dge 16032 1 0 15:32 ?00:00:00
/usr/lib/evolution/2.26/evolution-exchange-storage
--oaf-activate-iid=OAFIID:GNOME_Evolution_Exchange_Component_Factory:2.26
--oaf-ior-fd=27
dge 16050 1 0 15:32 ?00:00:00
/usr/lib/evolution/evolution-data-server-2.26
--oaf-activate-iid=OAFIID:GNOME_Evolution_DataServer_CalFactory:1.2
--oaf-ior-fd=26

the following in the debug file

** (evolution:16022): DEBUG: mailto URL command: evolution %s
** (evolution:16022): DEBUG: mailto URL program: evolution
** (evolution:16022): DEBUG: EI: SHELL STARTUP

and a zero length file ~/.evolution/calendar/local/system/calendar.ics~
created.

However, one time I got the following in the debug file

** (evolution:15829): DEBUG: mailto URL command: evolution %s
** (evolution:15829): DEBUG: mailto URL program: evolution

** (evolution:15829): WARNING **: Failed to send buffer

(evolution:15829): libecal-WARNING **: e-cal.c:2177: Unable to contact backend
** (evolution:15829): DEBUG: EI: SHELL STARTUP

(evolution:15829): libecal-WARNING **: e-cal.c:1738: Unable to contact
backend

Is some upgrade of the calendar.ics file needed in going from evolution
2.24.3 to 2.26.1?
