gedit is set to provide a backup file afer a save. However, gedit has
not done so since its ubuntu lucid release. It just replaces the
original copy of whatever file it being saved. The preferences have
been set to provide a backup. This is not a permissions problem. I
can create new text files and it obviously writes them to the
partition where I want to save the created new files.

[Bug 882281] [NEW] gedit is set to provide a backup file afer a save. However, gedit has not done so since its ubuntu lucid release. It just replaces the original copy of whatever file it being saved.

2011-10-26 Thread Dr JD Wallach
Public bug reported:

Gedit does not create a backup file of a saved file even if the preferences of
gedit are set to do so. On a save it just over writes the original file
without creating a backup copy of the original file (*.~ file).
This problem has been present since Ubuntu 11.04. It is still present now in
Ubuntu 11.10.
The problem does not exist in Ubuntu 10.04.

nothing happens.
3.- When using nautilus to browse my home directory and clicking on the top
toolbar's computer, again all icons are gone and nothing else happens.
4.- I can get my desktop icons back by doing an Alt-F2 and then typing
nautilus -n
5.- I can get to the various folders and devices by using places.
6.-Before the updates I took a clonezilla backup of the disk, so, when I

[Bug 317834] [NEW] random duplicate folders created in ubuntu 8.04

2009-01-16 Thread Dr JD Wallach
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libnautilus-extension-dev

This is the situation:
folder A has several sub folders (say A1, A2, A3, ...Ai,...,An).
Each of the set of sub folders Ai has a set of m1, m2, m3, ..,mi,.., mn files
respectively.
Now when working on any one of the mi set of files and and going back to se Ai
folder I noticed that
Hardy Heron (Ubuntu 8.04) randomly creates an empty duplicate of folder Ai that
was just worked on.
I searched the forums to see if there are any entries on this subject but with
no luck.
