[Bug 1845801] Re: [nvidia] Automatic login fails and then all subsequent logins fail. Killing gnome-session-binary fixes it, or just not using automatic login.
Chris, With the following packages installed and the workaround removed the issue no longer occurs for me when enabling Automatic Login via Settings. I have tested rebooting and starting from off several times and it worked as expected each time. Previously the issue occurred on every boot. gdm3 (3.36.3-0ubuntu0.20.04.1) libgdm1 (3.36.3-0ubuntu0.20.04.1) gir1.2-gdm-1.0:amd64 (3.36.3-0ubuntu0.20.04.1) nvidia-driver-450 (450.66-0ubuntu0.20.04.1) /etc/default/grub ``` GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash" ``` Of note, when the desktop loaded I was greeted with the Ubuntu new user "Connect Your Online Accounts" setup screen and what appeared to be a fresh users settings. If this happens to anyone here there's a helpful README.txt in ~/ reminding you that you encrypted your home directory, and to run ecryptfs-mount-private to gain access. Oh yeah... You can also expect to be prompted to unlock your login keyring at some random moment a few minutes after the desktop loads. Anyway, wonderful work, and thanks to everyone who helped fix this, at least for me. :) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-session in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1845801 Title: [nvidia] Automatic login fails and then all subsequent logins fail. I managed to track this down to a particular option in weechat, eat_newline_glitch. The problem occurs when there are lines that are _exactly_ as long as the terminal width. [Bug 1869769] [NEW] gnome-terminal regularly becomes corrupted
Public bug reported: I regularly run weechat inside gnome-terminal, and it routinely becomes corrupted. It's hard to say whether this is a gnome-terminal bug, but I've seen it on different machines. The problem is perhaps best shown through a screenshot (attached). You can see the statusbar in the second to last row incorrectly contains the words "I would" that were displayed elsewhere in the terminal but weechat at some point. Normal usage of weechat results in tabs that have corruption in other rows, but I wasn't readily able to find an example with non-sensitive information. Hi. I looked at the specific request you made to obtain a backtrace but the instructions are too complicated to figure out. Is there some sort of executable file or one click program to run? What I can tell you though is that after much a do I figured out that the problem is most likely caused by the lack of up to date support for apple IOS products. IOS 9 requires the current version of http://www.libimobiledevice.org/downloads/libimobiledevice-1.2.0.tar.bz2 in ubuntu from www.libimobiledevice.org Of course this is not the end of it as the above generates dependencies like usbmuxd and a few others that are also out of date. Public bug reported: I recently rebooted my computer, and NetworkManager didn't come online. Snooping dmesg revealed the problem: [ 16.371556] systemd[1]: Breaking ordering cycle by deleting job network.target/start [ 16.371561] systemd[1]: Job network.target/start deleted to break ordering cycle starting with network-online.target/start [ 16.371722] systemd[1]: Found ordering cycle on NetworkManager-wait-online.service/start [ 16.371727] systemd[1]: Found dependency on NetworkManager.service/start [ 16.371732] systemd[1]: Found dependency on basic.target/start [ 16.371736] systemd[1]: Found dependency on sockets.target/start [ 16.371739] systemd[1]: Found dependency on cups.socket/start [ 16.371743] systemd[1]: Found dependency on sysinit.target/start [ 16.371747] systemd[1]: Found dependency on screen-cleanup.service/start [ 16.371751] systemd[1]: Found dependency on remote-fs.target/start [ 16.371754] systemd[1]: Found dependency on openafs-client.service/start [ 16.371758] systemd[1]: Found dependency on network-online.target/start [ 16.371762] systemd[1]: Found dependency on NetworkManager-wait-online.service/start [ 16.371766] systemd[1]: Breaking ordering cycle by deleting job NetworkManager.service/start [ 16.371771] systemd[1]: Job NetworkManager.service/start deleted to break ordering cycle starting with NetworkManager-wait-online.service/start Manually running `sudo systemctl start NetworkManager` brought it back online. But there shouldn't be an ordering cycle! The problem seems to be that sockets wants cups, and then through a hilarious chain of events we hit openafs-client which obviously needs network. So for some reason, wants constraints are being honored too strictly. [Bug 379019] Re: loading subtitles resets the movie
Ah! No, not on my system, at least. Ubuntu 14.04, with all current updates. totem is 3.10.1-1ubuntu4 . Totem hung on me while I was testing, but that seemed related to opening a movie while another instance was running. I don't have time to go after that one right now! But nothing bad appeared at all related to loading subtitles. Tested it on two movies. Loading a new sub file did not reset or change the point in the movie at all. Looks fixed here. [Bug 1183146] [NEW] brasero crashed with SIGSEGV in g_type_check_instance_is_a()
Public bug reported: Perhaps the retracer can tell if this is a dupe. It may be the same as bug 1176269, that I reported. But the retracer failed on that one. I'm not sure if it's having problems, or if there's something non-standard in this system's coredumps, or what. The circumstances were different for this crash, anyway. [Bug 1128100] Re: Inconsistencies between gedit and the Unity dock
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1027584 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1027584 Hi John, thanks for the report. You've found a bug that's also been reported at bug 1027584. It's fixed in newer release of Ubuntu. Looking at that page, I'm not quite sure if or when it'd going to get into Precise. But you can fix it on your machine pretty easily. Those menu items, called quicklists in Unity, are defined in /usr/share/applications/gedit.desktop which belongs to gedit. Here's the relevant text from that file, on my machine: [Desktop Action Window] Name=Open a New Window Exec=gedit --new-window OnlyShowIn=Unity; [Desktop Action Document] Name=Open a New Document Exec=gedit --new-document OnlyShowIn=Unity; In the 12.04 version, it's gedit --new-window in both cases, instead of gedit --new-document where it should be. Until you get the fix, by update or upgrade, you can override the system gedit.desktop file, with one for your user account, as ~/.local/share/applications/gedit.desktop. You can copy the system one there, then edit it. You'll probably want to keep an eye for the eventual update, and remove your local gedit.desktop, when it comes, or, if you have more changes you want to keep there, at least keep an eye for changes in the system one. And I'm gonna mark this bug as a duplicate of bug 1027584. I'll subscribe to this, so you can keep posting here, if you want some more help with a workaround, or on the main bug if you have more general questions. Hope this helps some. :) --- Ubuntu Bug Squad volunteer triager http://wiki.ubuntu.com/BugSquad -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gedit in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1128100 Title: Inconsistencies between gedit and the Unity dock To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gedit/+bug/1128100/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1118006] [NEW] brasero crashed with SIGSEGV in g_main_loop_unref()
Public bug reported: Brasero had copied a DVD to an image file, and was preparing to write the image. I had switched in the blank disc, but apparently it hadn't written anything yet, as the disc is still blank. A couple of unnecessary prompts came up when the blank disc was loaded. (That's a bug that I haven't found nor filed yet. :) I hit escape a few times to clear those away. A couple escape presses probably went to the brasero window, and it crashed right after that. So that's the only cause I can guess. That might make this a dupe of bug 998389, if hitting Esc is equivalent to clicking the close button, at that point. Thanks! [Bug 1103781] [NEW] nautilus crashed with SIGSEGV in malloc()
Public bug reported: Lots of nautilus crashes lately, for me, in Raring. Like bug 1101965 and bug 1101985. This appears to be a separate point in the code, but we'll see. I removed .xsession-errors, because it had directory and other info from my machine. The possibly relevant part was the last two lines: (process:10001): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_slice_set_config: assertion `sys_page_size == 0' failed (nautilus:8538): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_unref: assertion `G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed I'm not sure if these came right at the time of the crash. Thanks. [Bug 1098301] [NEW] brasero crashed with SIGSEGV in brasero_task_ctx_report_progress()
Public bug reported: When Brasero crashed, the last message I had noticed was Finalizing disc. [Bug 1085520] [NEW] brasero won't burn data cd or iso
Public bug reported: Evry time I have ever used Brasero to burn an ISO I have always has to do again using K3B. Brasero never seemed to work. Today I just wanted to make a data cd, and Brasero didn't work for that either. Here is an error log file. [Bug 1060025] Re: no menu indicators next to Ubuntu Desktop on indications panel
Hi - Nautilus manages the desktop background, and provides those menus. Nautilus in quantal right now is having some crashes. Maybe that's what's causing this problem for you. When you see this behavior, try right-clicking on the desktop. If no menu appears, nautilus isn't running. Then open a nautilus window, and nautilus should take over the desktop again. Even when you close that window, you should see the menus you're asking about.
