Interressting because the ubuntu man pages ,( which is the first google result for play dvd ubuntu) suggest to launch the DVDread script which install the libdvdcss deb. It actually depends on the trailer you try. in karmic , the user-agent trick made most of them work. But now Apple added onother check on reported QT version through javascript. however the Totem QT plugin is well made so it reports a recent version. So it should work .. ( a bit like france2.fr ..) Maybe they want to force windows user to install Ithunes even if they had for exemple a working plugin such as VLC.
