[Bug 198073] [NEW] Totem should provide a way to change the XV_COLORKEY value it uses
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: totem It looks like totem sets the XV_COLORKEY attribute of the xv port it uses. But it would be nice if there was a way to change this value (it's currently green). The reason is the following: I have an ATI RV100 board, with a 16 bits depth and compiz enabled. But with compiz enabled, the screen is rendered using 3d textures. In this mode, the solid colors are not exactly rendered solid, but rendered with a bit of noise. And when viewing a video with totem, there's a lot of green pixels all over the video, which is unacceptable. There's three different possible workarounds: - just don't use xv, but it uses a lot of cpu, and fulscreen video are less nice than with xv. - change the screen depth from 16 to 24, but with compiz enabled, it makes epiphany scrolling to slow. - and change the XV_COLORKEY to something else than the current green. For me, a value of 1 works fine, but it's not a good default for all users. Currently, since Totem changes this value, I need to launch totem first, then use xvattr toe change XV_COLORKEY to 1, then play the video. A gconf key for this parameter would be great. Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-panel Using gnome-panel from ubuntu hardy (2.21.91), the workspace switcher has big tooltips explaining its use. [Bug 192358] Re: Tooltips are not a user manual
« The intend is to make easier for users to discover those feature, the tooltip is not optimal and we have been discussing this. » My take on this one would be: - people that interract with the desktop mostly using the mouse will discover the mouse features by themselves. - I think people that want to use keyboard shortcuts have been used to search them. And the shortcuts can be found either by reading the user manual which is available directly using the popup menu, or by using the keyboard shortcut dialog in system-preferences. So I don't think we really need to add yet another way to discover the features. But that's only my opinion, not the result of a usability study :) « We are considering using the context menu to list those actions, what do you think about that? » That would be better, yes. *** This bug is a duplicate of bug 192232 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/192232 - people that interract with the desktop mostly using the mouse will discover the mouse features by themselves. I don't mind if evolution is using gnome-keyring. Issue is until now, evolution never asked for a keyring passwd, and suddenly ask for one. The good thing is I've figured out which passwd it asked, and remembered its value... But now, I would like to have the previous behaviour back, i.e. no passwd when launching evolution, and it's not easy to find how to achieve that. So issues are: - unwanted change in evolution behaviour (new passwd dialog). - no hint about where to change/remove this password.
