[Bug 627414] [NEW] Add an option to switch to external screen when closing the lid and on main power

2010-08-31 Thread Emmanuel Pacaud
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

gnome-power-manager configuration dialog should provide an option to
just disable the laptop screen and enable the external one when closing
the lid while AC powered.

It currently only offers a 'blank screen' option, which not only disable
the laptop screen, but also the external one.

do you get the bug only when using the keyring?

It seems so. I've just created a new shortcut to another server, and it
worked fine. I've unmounted the remote folder, then selected the
shortcut - 100% CPU usage.

2009-09-30 Thread Emmanuel Pacaud
He's not the only one. I alos have this issue. Please see the attached
screenshot. That's what I got on first login.

If I log out and log in, all the applets are correctly loaded.

All I can say is, on my machine, the log in sequence is quite long,
especially after a reboot. So may be some too short timeouts are
involved in this bug. Timeouts that are not reached in the second warm

[Bug 274461] Re: gnome-system-monitor window is semi-transparent when using compiz

2008-10-24 Thread Emmanuel Pacaud
Ahem, stay calm, please...

As a user, I don't know where is exactly the issue. During the life of
this bug, the affected package list growned from compiz, to compiz +
gnome-system-monitor + human-theme. May be compiz does the right thing,
may be not, I don't know.

But the issue is still there: the gnome-system-monitor window is semi-
transparent, when all other application windows are not. It's simply not
consistent, and makes the text harder to read.

[Bug 269920] Re: gnome-font-viewer missing in gnome-control-center

2008-10-06 Thread Emmanuel Pacaud
 that's not an ubuntu bug

I beg to disagree. Ubuntu used to provide a functionality that is now
removed. If upstream introduces a bug, the ubuntu project shoudl try to
fix it, either by fixiing upstream, or in this case, by providing an
application that provides the same functionality.

[Bug 198073] [NEW] Totem should provide a way to change the XV_COLORKEY value it uses

2008-03-03 Thread Emmanuel Pacaud
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

It looks like totem sets the XV_COLORKEY attribute of the xv port it
uses. But it would be nice if there was a way to change this value (it's
currently green).

The reason is the following: I have an ATI RV100 board, with a 16 bits
depth and compiz enabled. But with compiz enabled, the screen is
rendered using 3d textures. In this mode, the solid colors are not
exactly rendered solid, but rendered with a bit of noise. And when
viewing a video with totem, there's a lot of green pixels all over the
video, which is unacceptable.

There's three different possible workarounds:

- just don't use xv, but it uses a lot of cpu, and fulscreen video are less
nice than with xv.
- change the screen depth from 16 to 24, but with compiz enabled, it makes
epiphany scrolling to slow.
- and change the XV_COLORKEY to something else than the current green. For me,
a value of 1 works fine, but it's not a good default for all users. Currently,
since Totem changes this value, I need to launch totem first, then use xvattr
toe change XV_COLORKEY to 1, then play the video.

A gconf key for this parameter would be great.

Thanks,

   Emmanuel.

[Bug 192358] [NEW] Tooltips are not a user manual

2008-02-16 Thread Emmanuel Pacaud
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Using gnome-panel from ubuntu hardy (2.21.91), the workspace switcher has big
tooltips explaining its use.

I don't think it's a good idea:

- tooltips should stay small, these ones are big.
- they should not be a substitute to the user manual.
- the one for the first workspace area hides almost completely the workspace
switcher.
- icons are distracting.

[Bug 192358] Re: Tooltips are not a user manual

2008-02-16 Thread Emmanuel Pacaud
« The intend is to make easier for users to discover those feature, the
tooltip is not optimal and we have been discussing this. »

My take on this one would be:

- people that interract with the desktop mostly using the mouse will discover
the mouse features by themselves.
- I think people that want to use keyboard shortcuts have been used to search
them. And the shortcuts can be found either by reading the user manual which is
available directly using the popup menu, or by using the keyboard shortcut
dialog in system-preferences.

So I don't think we really need to add yet another way to discover the
features. But that's only my opinion, not the result of a usability
study :)

« We are considering using the context menu to list those actions, what
do you think about that? »

That would be better, yes. And a way to show the shortcuts that is
consistent the the regular application menus.

[Bug 192358] Re: Tooltips are not a user manual

2008-02-16 Thread Emmanuel Pacaud
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 192232 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/192232

 - people that interract with the desktop mostly using the mouse will
discover the mouse features by themselves.

That's not really true, compiz has feature expo, scale and zoom
features which can't be triggered using the mouse using the default
configuration for example

Ok, so the correct sentence is:

- people that interract with the desktop mostly using the mouse will
discover the enabled mouse features by themselves.

You don't suggest to put a line in tooltips or context menus for every
disabled features, do you ?

[Bug 79078] Receive hangs regularly

2007-01-13 Thread Emmanuel Pacaud
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Quite regularly (at least several times per day), evolution is not able
to succeed in receiving mail from one or several accounts (either local,
pop or imap). It's then not possible to cancel the receiving operation.
The only way to close the send/receive dialog is to use the window close
button. From this instant, every attempt to send/receive will also fail
to succeed on the same accounts that failed the first time, and it will
not possible to quit evolution (it hangs after folder synchronization).

[Bug 54779] Re: Keyring password

2006-08-01 Thread Emmanuel Pacaud
I don't mind if evolution is using gnome-keyring.

Issue is until now, evolution never asked for a keyring passwd, and suddenly
ask for one.
The good thing is I've figured out which passwd it asked, and remembered its
value...

But now, I would like to have the previous behaviour back, i.e. no
passwd when launching evolution, and it's not easy to find how to
achieve that.

So issues are:

  - unwanted change in evolution behaviour (new passwd dialog).
  - no hint about where to change/remove this password.

Regarding gnome-keyring-manager itself, I did'nt find a way to change
this password, but that's not an issue related to evolution.
