[Bug 89656] [apport] vino-server crashed with SIGSEGV in rfbAuthCleanupClient()
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: vino here is what i think happened; i was testing connection from a remote (local computer) through VNC. at one point, i was connected through the remote computer, and i asked to disconnect it through the VNC applet icon in the GNOME menu. I think that that point i asked twice. two windows asking for confirmation to disconnect the remote computer appeared, i closed one by saying disconnect. later, i tried to connect again from that same remote host. i have VNC set up so that it asks for confirmation when someone tries to connect. so the window XX tried to connect through VNC, do you want to allow or refuse?. I wanted to click allow but the window was not responding. at that point i noticed the old window about disconnecting the remote computer in the previous session. i think i tried to close that old window with cancel, and i think that it's at that point that vino crashed. well, same timing. i also just tested it with vino 2.17.92-0ubuntu1, and i confirm: it still doesn't work. i'm wondering if the VNC clients we're using also support that. I'm using ultraVNC. I'm saying that because both computers have slovenian keyboards, and that also the slovenian specific keys čšž don't work through that VNC connection, which is another problem than alt-GR. I don't think this patch will fix my problem of not being able to open my FTP servers with passwords from the gnome-panel... All that was fixed is another (related) problem of unclear error message on gnome-open ftp-site-with-password. When you upload packages to edgy which should fix this i can 100% say that the bug that I reported is not fixed. But right now i really can't see how it could be fixed... to restate my problem: in dapper, places-name of my FTP server, GNOME asks my keyring password, nautilus opens my FTP server with password. in edgy, exact same settings (dist-upgrade), places-name of my FTP server, error message. ah, maybe we were talking about different things. looking more careful at this page, we are talking both about a small libgnome bug, that error message, for which a fix was released, and also of the bug i'm getting, which would be on gnome-vfs2, and still not fixed. in that case, sorry for the misunderstanding. -- edgy: places-network servers error https://launchpad.net/bugs/66461 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

probably you already know that, but i'm just saying just in case. it's not good enough to just give another error message: gnome-open shouldn't fail, it should display the message box asking the username password. and from places where i actually entered by username and password, it should work. so your patch is not fixing the problem. as i said, you almost certainly already know that, i just wanted to say it. -- edgy: places-network servers error https://launchpad.net/bugs/66461 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

another thing: in the upstream bug report, the developer: 1. explained that a whole class of such problems were fixed in 1.7.1, so hopefully all the crashes found in this bug were fixed 2. gives a small (15 lines or so) patch to fix the issue in 1.7.0 if it was too late now to move ubuntu to 1.7.1 so i think now ubuntu should either go to 1.7.1, or if the freeze is too deep and it's too late, the small patch suggested and adopted by upstream which fixes the issue should be applied to ubuntu's gnumeric package. -- ssindex crashes https://launchpad.net/bugs/63297 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 63297] Re: ssindex crashes
OK, if we can't get 1.7.1 then it would be great to apply that small patch suggested by the developer. 1. the crash will be experienced by anybody having installed gnumeric and having .csv on his hard disk which gnumeric does not like 2. the patch is very small 3. the patch is approved by upstream 4. it's easy to check whether the patch does fix the crash: we have in this bugreport all the files which triggered crashes so far. run the files through 1.7.0 with the patch and check that they indeed don't crash gnumeric The problem is that apport makes this problem very visible: you are working normally on your computer, and suddendly you get a window that ssindex, a program you never heard of, crashed. [Bug 48198] drivemount: regression: audio CDs no longer displayed
Public bug reported: since dapper, drivemount no longer displays in the list of drives CD drives containing audio CDs. I think it's because it has been decided to hide drives that the user cannot mount. In the case of audio CDs, it's a regression IMO, because: 1. you can no longer click the drive and select Play CD, option which was introduced in 2.12, so beginner users will have as only solution to eject/reintroduce the CD to get it to play if they don't know which program is used to play audio CDs. 2. you can no longer eject the CD using the drivemount applet. you must use the button on the CD drive. imagine explaining to a beginner that he must use the drivemount applet to eject CDs... unless if it's an audioCD. then he must use the button on the drive. it's confusing. I think the new behaviour should be changed: don't display drives that can't be mounted, unless they are audioCDs. Always display audioCDs (like in breezy). I first reported this bug in GNOME bugzilla but it seems it's ubuntu specific so I report it here. ** Affects: gnome-applets (Ubuntu) Severity: Normal Priority: (none set) Status: Unconfirmed ** Bug watch added: GNOME Bug Tracker #343760 http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=343760 -- drivemount: regression: audio CDs no longer displayed https://launchpad.net/bugs/48198 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Public bug reported: since gnome-session has changed to using gnome-power-manager instead of gdm to log out (at least it seems to me that's when the change occured), when shutting down the computer, instead of switching to usplash for the shutdown, the display switches to one tty (text mode, letting you enter login and password to login, with a blinking cursor, as if you hit ctrl-alt-f1), and only later switches to usplash (when the usplash progress bar is quite far) before shutdown. before that change, when shutting down, the display was switching straight to usplash, for a much smoother experience. ** Affects: gnome-session (Ubuntu) Severity: Normal Priority: (none set) Status: Unconfirmed -- when shutting down, text console is shown and usplash appears only later https://launchpad.net/bugs/44344 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Public bug reported: Affects: eog (Ubuntu) Severity: Normal Priority: (none set) Status: Unconfirmed Description: there is a very big bug in EOG 2.14.1 present in dapper: start a slideshow, then cancel it using ESCAPE. you'll likely trigger a crash. according to the upstream bug report it's mostly when you cancel when a new image just appeared in the slideshow. but for me it's all the time. i think the bug is very critical. dapper doesn't look good at all if the image viewer crashes just by doing a slideshow. for now upstream didn't fix it yet. this is a request that ubuntu developers consider distributing the fix in dapper as soon as it's applied in CVS (assuming it will be applied on time), even if EOG developers don't make a release, and even if it's quite late in dapper schedule. i think it's a very serious bug like the nautilus crash on right click make archive was in breezy, that required to upload the fix in breezy- updates since so many people where hitting it. upstream bug: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=320206 ** Bug watch added: GNOME Bug Tracker #320206 http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=320206 -- EOG crashes when stopping slideshow https://launchpad.net/bugs/43322 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
