/sys/class/sound/pcmC0D0p 's parent is something like /sys/class/sound/card0, but that never get's added to hal, so when hal tries to find pcmC0D0p's parent it's been thrown away... Well I sat down with the hal 0.5.9 source and tried to figure out how it works... in sound_add in device.c the alsa sound properties only get added if the device has a parent. What do you have from the repos? The Rhtyhmbox-project have released version 0.9.6 which is now in ubuntu. After 0.9.6 the Rhythmbox project has fixed a bug in their CVS. I think this fix should be applied to the ubuntu package to.
