[Bug 1999578] Re: Bursts of high CPU usage after triggering overview
Hi Daniel, thanks very much for having a look. What do you think then about Jonas Adahl's observations from the syscap files, that "The frame clocks together dispatches at 1000 Hz at times."? Is this expected to be triggered by firefox as well, despite the window not being in focus? Furthermore please note, that the high cpu usage holds for almost a minute at times even after the overview animation is over! Firefox was already using the Wayland in the config I used when reporting the bug. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1999578 Title: Bursts of high CPU usage after triggering overview To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-shell/+bug/1999578/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1999578] [NEW] Bursts of high CPU usage after triggering overview
Public bug reported: As requested in the upstream bug report https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/-/issues/6137, I hereby file the downstream issue: I am experiencing high cpu usage of gnome-shell in situations where I would not expect it, leading to my fans running more often and wasting my battery on my Dell XPS 13 9310 2-in1. The problem can be seen in action here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y9o7a7BGPE4 See also the upstream report for syscap recordings of such situations. I think there might be a correlation with firefox being opened on another workspace (but no video or any other playback happening). At least everytime I notice that my an comes on for no reason and I fire up top to see gnome shell consuming too much cpu, when I kill all my firefox windows gnome shell cpu usage goes down as well, but that could be pure coincidence. At least I can safely rule out the triple buffering downstream ubuntu mutter patch, since I recompiled mutter without the patch and it does not really change the problem much. ** Affects: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: kinetic ** Attachment added: "apport.gnome-shell.4sllnc5r.apport" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1999578/+attachment/5635523/+files/apport.gnome-shell.4sllnc5r.apport -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1999578 Title: Bursts of high CPU usage after triggering overview To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1999578/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1922559] Re: osk: umlauts do not work in password prompts
@Daniel: affects 22.04 and 22.10 as well. Behavior additionally regressed in the way, that it is now impossible to access those characters, since the popup of the characters is hidden in the background and when trying to write "ü" by long pressing "u", the popup appears in the background and on releasing the finger, "u" is written in the input field. Affects all kind of gnome shell password dialogs, e.g. when connecting to wifi etc. This makes Ubuntu / Gnome-Shell in Tablet much less powerful, I hope I can bring this to your attention. Would be great if you could either look into this yourself or use your reputation upstream to convince someone else to look into this. It especially hurts in 22.10, since the osk got a lot more useful in Gnome-Shell 43 by also exposing up keys and modifiers for terminal to make it more useful. This bug here is the only osk bug missing to really make the tablet mode experience nice. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1922559 Title: osk: umlauts do not work in password prompts To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-shell/+bug/1922559/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1809685] Re: The evince application often freezes
@seb128: Yes, it's really annoying. I have to be really careful not to zoom too much in and out my documents as everytime it could be the last time before evince and all it's child windows freezes indefinitely. It seems to me like it happens in the rendering code. Reproducing sometimes need patience as there does not seem to be a deterministic way to trigger it but if you sit down scroll and zoom in and out a document for some time it will definitely happen. ** Bug watch added: gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/evince/-/issues #1222 https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/evince/-/issues/1222 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evince in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1809685 Title: The evince application often freezes To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/evince/+bug/1809685/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1866618] [NEW] Do not show appearance tab in vanilla gnome-control center
Public bug reported: I am not using the ubuntu modifications of gnome-shell and therefore the Appearance tab in the gnome-control center is essentially useless, and what's worse choosing an option in the window colors selection simply crashes control center. Therefore it would be appreciated to only show the appearance tab when using the ubuntu-session. [Bug 1080890] Re: gtk2 file chooser slow
I can absolutely confirm this issue. For example, it does not matter which gtk file manager you use, they are all very slow for opening large directories (even on ssd) with many files (For Qt based filemangers as dolphin, this is not a problem). For example take nautilus and try to open /usr/lib or /usr/bin. This takes much too long. Every gtk application (it does not matter if gtk2 or gtk3) I have tried so far is very slow at browsing files. This has been reported so many times (in most of the cases for nautilus) and still the situation has not changed. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gtk+2.0 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1080890 Title: gtk2 file chooser slow To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gtk+2.0/+bug/1080890/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
