[Bug 897282] [NEW] Wubi installed Ubuntu 10.04 can't use wireless network

2011-11-28 Thread Fayer Michael
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 10.04.03 LTS was installed recently using Wubi in WinXP home
edition. I used a full partition (26GB) for Ubuntu. Wireless works well
in WinXP on same laptop. So hardware has no problem. But no wireless
network can be found in Ubuntu by network-manager or Wicd. Manually
inputing wireless ESSID and password in network-manager didn't help. I
have tried all commands related to wireless network I can find. The
output are as below. It seems wireless card was disabled. But I couldn't
find way to enable it.

I may have disabled (reenabled later) wireless card in WinXP when
installing Ubuntu. So I reinstalled Ubuntu using Wubi to check if it's
the problem. But this time I kept wireless enable. The problem is still
same in new Ubuntu. So disabling and reenabling in WinXP was not the
problem. It becomes more like a bug.

I have not find hardware switch on laptop and never use it. It should
not be problem since WinXP works well.

Commands outputs:

$ rfkill list
(no output)

[Bug 814473] Re: gnome-settings-daemon crashed with SIGSEGV in gdk_display_get_event()

2011-10-11 Thread Fayer Michael
I think this bug probably related with sleeping. I closed my laptop, it
slept. When I opened it, the error occurred and something became
strange, e.g., all icons in file browser (nautilus) were lost, they
looked just all same.

[Bug 863759] [NEW] Evolution cannot cancel receiving email

2011-09-30 Thread Fayer Michael
Public bug reported:

When receiving email (e.g., by clicking 'Send/Receive' button),
sometimes some mail accounts always receive and never stop, even
clicking 'Cancel' buttons. This happens usually for some web mails,
e.g., Gmail or Hotmail. This problem has existed for a very long time
(at least since Ubuntu 9.04).

Current system:
$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu oneiric (development branch)
Release:11.10

The version of evolution is 3.2.0-0ubuntu2.

[Bug 862494] Re: Small font sizes in Evolution mail reading and compose windows in Ubuntu 11.10

2011-09-30 Thread Fayer Michael
The upgrade today (30 Sep) was big but not a distribution upgrade, since
'lsb_release -rd' gave same output. And the bug is still there with
Evolution upgraded to 3.2.0-0ubuntu2 :-(

[Bug 862494] [NEW] Small font sizes in Evolution mail reading and compose windows in Ubuntu 11.10

2011-09-29 Thread Fayer Michael
Public bug reported:

Everything was OK in old Ubuntu e.g., 10.04. After upgrading to Ubuntu
11.10, however, the font size in email reading window is quite small.
The header font is bigger, but the text font is too small. And evo can't
remember the size. Every time when reading emails I have to use Ctrl-+
to zoom in. This happens only for text emails. For html emails, it looks
ok. Mail compose window also has small font (for composing text emails),
and the text cursor (not mouse cursor) looks very strange: it has not
same size as font (much bigger), and sometimes it looks not in the same
line as text, but behaves in the same line!

I have converted mail format from mbox to maildr (?), because Evolution
asks me to do so first time when I opened it after upgrading to new
Ubuntu. I don't know if it is a reason. Another bug related to format
conversion is, everytime when I sent an email out, it shows an error
something like: "The mail has been successfully sent. But the post-
processing had problem. It can't save draft in mbox://... It was saved
in 'Sent'." And a "Dismiss" button is there too. (Maybe I should start
another bug report)

My OS:
$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu oneiric (development branch)
Release:11.10

My evolution:
$ apt-cache policy evolution
evolution:
  Installed: 3.1.92-0ubuntu1
  Candidate: 3.2.0-0ubuntu2
  Version table:
 3.2.0-0ubuntu2 0
500 http://cn.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ oneiric/main i386 Packages
 *** 3.1.92-0ubuntu1 0
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

Oh, I saw an update of evo: 3.2.0-0ubuntu2 (actually hundreds or even
thousands of upgrads! it should be a distribution upgrade). I will check
if it fixes the bug.

Why I still have the problem after 2 years after fix released? I always
keep my Ubuntu and all softwares updated.

[Bug 676798] Re: evince can't show some characters in some (probably old) pdfs

2010-11-19 Thread Fayer Michael
Note that xpdf's problem is not rending (not like evince). Its problem
is key lag. And only the version in Ubuntu repository has this problem.
The version (binary) downloaded from xpdf official site (
http://www.foolabs.com/xpdf/ ) has not this problem.

To reproduce the problem, I have just reinstalled xpdf-reader from
synaptic. Synaptic shows the version is 3.02-2ubuntu1. This version
renders pdf well, but key lag problem still occurred.

To reproduce the key lag problem, one can try the pdf in my previous
post and zoom into 300% or 400%. Then quickly press arrow key, eg. right
arrow, many times, you will see document move lag much behind key
strokes. Then you can repeat same operations using "official" xpdf and
no lag would happen.

[Bug 676798] Re: evince can't show some characters in some (probably old) pdfs

2010-11-18 Thread Fayer Michael
As Robert Collins pointed out, I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS (sorry forget
mention that). Evince came with Ubuntu. With these info, one should be
easy to reproduce the bug.

Actually, xpdf installed by 'synaptic' or 'apt-get' in Ubuntu also had
key-lag problem (pages moving lag much behind key strokes). I downloaded
the version from http://www.foolabs.com/xpdf/ and the problem solved. So
it seems it's the problem of Ubuntu software repository.
