[Bug 529696] Re: brasero can't copy audio cd (useless error message)
It's bugs like this, and Ubuntu's lack of response to them, that makes it hard for me to recommend Linux to someone where I won't be monitoring their computer constantly. If a user can pop in a CD and right-click on it and has the option to Copy CD, the expect it to work when they select it. It's little, simple usability things like this that help to hold the Linux desktop back and makes me question how aware Ubuntu really is of the desktop they promote. Sure, the bug might be upstream and not with Ubuntu, but if Ubuntu really cared about the desktop they'd say, Wait a minute, this really disrupts the desktop experience for users, and they'd step in and fix it and release the fix for all supported Ubuntu versions. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to brasero in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/529696 Title: brasero can't copy audio cd (useless error message) -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 602554] [NEW] gnome-session-properties / Startup Applications will *NOT* disable programs
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-session Here's what I do: I go into System Preferences Startup Applications and disable (uncheck) the applications I don't want to start. I restart the system, and yet those programs still started. I look at Startup Applications again, but they're still unchecked. So, I go into ~/.config/autostart and the .desktop links for all those applications are *still* in the directory, even though I unchecked them in Startup Applications. So, I manually delete all the links, and restart. The programs *still* start. Then I go back into Startup Applications, and everything is magically checked again. Frustrating! [Bug 488445] Re: Not all files show on the desktop
You're not understanding. None of the files are shown while the copy / move procedure is happening. That's normal. However, after the copy / move procedure is *completely* finished, only one of the files are shown, instead of all of them. If you copy a group of five files, only one of them will be shown, even after the copy / move procedure is *completely* finished. Then once you hit F5, the rest of the files show up. ** Changed in: nautilus (Ubuntu) Status: Invalid = New -- Not all files show on the desktop https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/488445 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 359975] Re: evince sometimes yield error Error printing: Too many failed attempts
Are you kidding? Ubuntu developers and I suppose Linux developers in general apparently don't really care about these little bugs that turn out to be huge usability stumbling blocks, just like they'd rather stick to a cumbersome form of software management that really only works well if you follow the exact guidelines set out for you rather than wanting to doing something like, oh, I don't know, updating to the latest version of a program before the next distribution is released. Face it, Windows and Mac may be broken in a variety of ways, but simple crap like this that prevents people from getting their work done, or makes them have to work harder to get their work done, would just never fly. Sorry, had to vent for a bit there. -- evince sometimes yield error Error printing: Too many failed attempts https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/359975 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 359975] Re: evince sometimes yield error Error printing: Too many failed attempts
Of course I can build the latest versions from source, even though sometimes that means backtracking and building all the latest libraries from source first. But as an average user trying to do average things on a home computer, should I have to build things from source? Of course not. Should an average user really even know about source, past a general idea of what it's all about? Nope. On Windows or on a Mac, if there's a new version of a program, they just release a new binary and there you go. It works on your current system. Heck, it's even usually backwards and forwards compatible. Now there's lots of other areas that Windows and Mac get wrong, but software handling isn't one of them. Windows does it better, and Mac does it much, much better. Why does all this bug me? Aside from the inconvenience of it all, I'm afraid if Linux in general continues along these paths it'll marginalize itself and never achieve the desktop saturation that I wish it would. This bug is a perfect example of that. In today's day and age, printing and PDFs are a major part of common computer use, and yet here it's marked as a low priority item. Something like this that directly impacts the user should be high priority. They shouldn't have to wiggle their mouse to make it work. You or I or the other people here might put up with it, but an average user, a new user, might say, This sucks, I can't even print my documents. Oh well, back to Windows / Mac. -- evince sometimes yield error Error printing: Too many failed attempts https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/359975 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
