[Bug 1973564] [NEW] File dialog doesn't return current filter in Ubuntu 20.02

2022-05-15 Thread Ted Gould
Public bug reported:

The file dialog implementation doesn't return the current filter. It is
in the spec and it is fixed in newer versions of the portals. But the
1.6.0 version doesn't return it.

This is an issue for Inkscape which uses the filter to select which file
format someone wishes to save as if they override the defaults. This
works well on Ubuntu 22.04.

[Bug 1579837] Re: Issue after wizard with policykit

2016-05-10 Thread Ted Gould
So I think what we're gonna do is use this bug for tracking the fixes
and landings for the touch images. This will be for OTA12, OTA11 will
not see the PK agent on it, we're just going to keep these bugs swept
under the rug like they were in OTA10.

At the root of it all the issue seems to be bug 1512002 where accounts
service was being too strict and we don't have a full session on the
phone. By applying the patch in that bug we remove the need for USS to
have a temporary PK agent and we remove the random prompts that are in
bug 1580086.

For this bug:

policykit-unity8 task: Fix the crash that was happening on timeout.
ubuntu-system-settings: Remove the PK agent code.
accountservice: Backport the bug 1512002 patch to vivid overlay

[Bug 1279846] [NEW] libaccountsservice leaks system bus references

2014-02-13 Thread Ted Gould
Public bug reported:

When I started using libaccountsservice in indicator-sound I had a test that
basically started it up, connected to a mock and shut it down. At the end of
this it checked the references to the system bus object, and found there to be
11 extra. It seems that probably libaccountsservice could benefit from a good
code review looking specifically for lost references to stuff on DBus.

The SDK must not be creating the GApplication object with a well-known

this.

[Bug 1056821] Re: Quantal: ctl-alt-t does not bring up terminal after updating

2012-10-05 Thread Ted Gould
It seems that this was a GSettings key that got unset, probably as
plugins were being changed through the release. I was able to fix this
by reenabling the media keys plugin like this:

$ gsettings set org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.media-keys active true

** Package changed: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu Quantal) = gnome-
settings-daemon (Ubuntu Quantal)

[Bug 1061215] [NEW] Rubberband on desktop is theme color instead of background average

2012-10-03 Thread Ted Gould
Public bug reported:

The rubber band on the desktop is based on the color of the theme
instead of the average color of the desktop background like all of the
Unity dash, Notify OSD and others. This means that many times the
selection can be invisible or just doesn't look right on the desktop.

Yeah, basically just click and select and just keep clicking.
Eventually you hit it. Basically if you're playing with your track pad
over an XChat window it'll happen. Which, sadly, I do more often than
I'd like to admit. ;-) This bug kills XChat at least once a week for

please reopen the bug. Also a stack trace would be really useful here.

I do get this, but only unity-2d not 3d. One of the items is in the

Maintaining and checking a whitelist will just cause a lot of

The question becomes: how do HW vendors that *do* care about Ubuntu

that we know we're on one of those systems?

I think that we'd like them to be able to self select by adding

It certainly doesn't, but at least it works on far more machines
than where it doesn't. Reportedly suspend sometimes fails randomly,
when you have particular peripherals attached, or suspend too many
times, etc.), but that wouldn't be helped with a by-machine whitelist
 either.

I guess the point here Martin is that you're saying we don't know --
and that leads to very confused designs that say we don't know to the
user, and thus the user doesn't know. Then they have no confidence in
us to tell them anything!

I think that we need to come up with a yes or no answer to the
question: Does suspend work? Or yes, with a blacklist or No, with
a whitelist would also work.

Do you think this would be a good thing to put on the technical board's
agenda?

[Bug 812394] Re: Disable suspend/hibernate options when they are not supported

2011-08-17 Thread Ted Gould
I don't mind taking that approach on suspend. But every time I've
suggested that we enable suspend by default I've gotten push back from
everyone saying that it's not reliable enough. Either it is, and we can
set up a 10 min suspend by default or it isn't and we shouldn't ask
users to do it either.

[Bug 826933] [NEW] Overlay scrollbars can make a11y difficult

2011-08-15 Thread Ted Gould
Public bug reported:

The accessibility themes should not use overlay scrollbars as they're
not necessarily accessible for many types of disabilities. In order to
fix this we're adding a style property to the GTK patch so that the
light-themes can set it, enabling overlay-scrollbars, and other themes
can as well if they are designed to work with OS. Then themes that are
not aware or tested with them (a11y ones for instance) will not have
them.
