[Bug 581552] [NEW] custom $HOME/.gnome2/backgrounds.xml lost

2010-05-16 Thread Grant Bowman
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-themes

I upgraded my machine from Karmic to Lucid. Somewhere along the way my
~/.gnome2/backgrounds.xml was written over.

I had quite a bit of work saved in there. If any component is going to
write over my configuration it could at least save a .old version for me
to use later.

I am not sure how to identify what source package this bug really
applies to since it's a config file in my home directory. I believe the
logic would have to be added to the upstream code as this is not a
packaging bug.

Thanks for taking a look.

[Bug 176547] Re: show actions menu tooltip is confusing

2008-07-19 Thread Grant Bowman
Hello Pedro and Joachim,

I am also very confused as to what this checkbox is INTENDED to do.
Some guesses as to the intended meaning might be:

1. Instead of 'Show actions menu' it should read 'Hide actions menu' - but I
doubt it because of the other related checkbox.
2. In the tooltip of the checkbox "When this is off" should read "When this is
checked"
3. In the tooltip of the checkbox "one of the actions" should read "shutdown
and restart actions"
4. In the tooltip of the checkbox "available anywhere" really means during the
gdm login screen and during the Log Out screen. Maybe those should be
specified directly.

So instead of what it reads currently perhaps it should read "When this
checked restart and shutdown actions will be available from the login
and logout screens."

A separate issue has to do with the checkbox functionality, but that
belongs in a different bug report.
