[Bug 152769] clock runs slow - seconds change every 4-7 seconds

2007-10-14 Thread Howard
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: yelp

Using Feisty c/w latest upgrades running in Virtual Machine Ware on Dell
Inspiron 5315 c/w Vista. Clock v.2-18-1 Two problems:
 a) In 'manual' mode time shown on clock lags behind actual time. To correct
the clock reading I use the time adjustment window and manually synchronize the
time to the correct time. I have noted that the seconds window changes only
every 4 to 7 actual seconds- - for example, if I have just synchronized the
time and the seconds read '23' they will change to '24' only after an interval
of 4 to 7 actual seconds. Consequently the clock always reads a time that is
lagged behind the actual time.
b) auto synchronization of the time doesn't work at all - the appropriate time
zone (America/Vancouver) and internet servers (clock.tricity.wsu.edu) are
chosen but the synchronization never occurs. The clock simply stops at
whatever time was shown immediately after the reading when the 'adjust time and
date' window was accessed. I have tried various internet servers with the same
lack of results. Auto synchronization doesn't ever seem to occur.

[Bug 393074] Re: Can not disable the laptop Lid

2009-07-07 Thread Scott Howard
Thanks for the debugging work. We have a some more things to do to work
on your bug:

A) For all the following debugging use Karmic Koala only (liveCD or
development installation). The upstream developers are currently working
on that version of GPM, and it is the best way we can get the bug fixed
in Ubuntu. There is little chance of getting this bug fixed in Jaunty,
so we should concentrate on Karmic
(https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates)

B) when in Karmic type into the terminal:
"apport-collect 393074"
this will add more information to this report

C) 1) run the command:
dbus-monitor --session
"type='signal',interface='org.freedesktop.PowerManagement'"
2) suspend and close the lid
3) post the output from dbus-monitor

D) 1) type the following command into terminal: "lshal -m > lshal.log.txt"
2) suspend and close the lid
 3) attach lshal.log.txt to the bug report. (this one is probably not
necessary, but it's a good sanity check)

E) 1) type into the terminal:
killall gnome-power-manager
$ gnome-power-manager --verbose --no-daemon 2>&1 | tee gpm.debug.log.txt
2) suspend and close the lid
3) attach gpm.debug.log.txt to this bug report

Thanks in advance.

black, regardless of which setting in gnome-power-preferences.

with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the development release -
Karmic Koala (gpm version 2.27+). It would help us greatly if you could

[Bug 311494] Re: Hibernation and suspend do not work properly in Lenovo Ideapad Y530

2009-07-08 Thread Scott Howard
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The issue that you reported is one that should be
reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the
development release - Karmic Koala. It would help us greatly if you
could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next
release of Ubuntu. You can find out more about the development release
at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/.

If the bug does exist in Karmic, we should focus on debugging the
problem while in a Karmic environment.

In Karmic, run the following command in the terminal:
"apport-collect 311494"

and take a look to the Debugging instructions located at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingGNOMEPowerManager for submit any other
logs related to your problem.

Thanks again and we appreciate your help.

2009-07-08 Thread Scott Howard
Thanks for the stack trace (the complete one is here:
http://launchpadlibrarian.net/28836332/Stacktrace.txt).

How repeatable is the crash? Are there steps you can do to recreate it? When
you say "the screen turns black" - is it because of GPM screen blanking, screen
saver, or this crash?
Thanks!

Also, the backtrace isn't complete yet. Could you follow the instructions at:

[Bug 311494] Re: Hibernation and suspend do not work properly in Lenovo Ideapad Y530

2009-07-09 Thread Scott Howard
Thanks for trying, maybe try again once the packages are all updated.

Here are things to try and report what happens:
1) Type this in the terminal (one line):
dbus-send --system --print-reply --dest="org.freedesktop.Hal"
/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/computer
org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.SystemPowerManagement.Hibernate

2) Type this in the terminal:
gnome-power-cmd.sh hibernate

3)Type the following into the terminal (two lines):
killall gnome-power-manager
gnome-power-manager --verbose --no-daemon

then try to hibernate and report what shows up in the terminal window

These steps were taken from https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingGNOMEPowerManager.

[Bug 397993] Re: apport-hook in GPM no longer attaches gnome-power-bugreport.sh

2009-07-10 Thread Scott Howard
This debdiff adds gnome-power-bugreport.sh output to apport's gnome-
power-manager script.

I believe it was removed since it uses HAL and replaced with "devkit-
power -d"

However, gnome-power-bugreport.sh is the upstream's tool for adding
information to bug reports, and they request that it is attach to their
bug reports. Including this will reduce bug email ping pong. When
upstream changes gnome-power-bugreport.sh to use devicekit instead of
HAL, we will still be getting the output of the script.

Thanks for the report and working to make Ubuntu better. The more complete
backtrace is here:

There's a good amount of work going on upstream to work on bugs like
this, and we may be patching the Ubuntu version soon, so it may already
be fixed. I'll mark this as confirmed and then we should test the new
upstream release before forwarding this to them

[Bug 351437] Re: gnome-power-manager reports battery alive when it appears to be dead

2009-07-11 Thread Scott Howard
Thanks for your report and helping make Ubuntu better. I'm closing this
bug in reference to the GPM FAQ
(http://live.gnome.org/GnomePowerManager/FAQ).

My time to discharge is always incorrect due to a faulty battery, what
can I do?

You might be able to use the percentage charge for g-p-m to use as the
policy data. Open gconf-editor, and then change the key /apps/gnome-
power-manager/use_time_for_policy to false. You can do this easily by
doing:

gconftool-2 --set --type bool /apps/gnome-power-
manager/use_time_for_policy false This should get the policy actions
working for you, but of course the time remaining will still be
incorrect.

[Bug 162124] Re: Should be able to set power preferences systemwide, eg. sleep on lid closed on gdm login screen

2009-07-11 Thread Scott Howard
Upstream (gnome) is the best place for this bug. The GPM developers have
their hand in everything involving power management, and would be the
place to get things like this fixed. Their website is:
http://projects.gnome.org/gnome-power-manager/

If you post a bug there, please post a link to the upstream report on
this report as well.

Also, the issue that you reported is one that should be reproducible

Thank you taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better.
However, processing the crash report to get detailed information for the
developers failed as the retracer did not generate a useful symbolic stack
trace.
Please try to obtain a backtrace manually following the instructions at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash and upload the backtrace (as an
attachment) to the bug report. This will greatly help us in tracking down your
problem.

Also, several similar crashes have been reported recently, and upstream
has come up with some bug fixes. Before forwarding upstream, we should
test the new versions once it is in Ubuntu (2.27.2 +1)

[Bug 228932] Re: Gnome Power Manager doesn't show battery tab if accumulator isn't inserted

2009-07-11 Thread Scott Howard
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The issue that you reported is one that should be
reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the
development release - Karmic Koala. It would help us greatly if you
could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next
release of Ubuntu. You can find out more about the development release
at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/. Thanks again and we appreciate your
help.
