The drive is correctly specified in the smartmontools, smartctl/smartd database (see attached). disks (gnome-disk-utility 3.36.1 = UDisks 2.8.4 (built against 2.8.4)) reports attribute 231 as "temperature". The hardware maintenance phase of 16.04 finished end Q1 2018. The release date of the Kingston SA400S37 ssd was Q1 2017. Therefore, the upstream decision from Debian maintainer, see https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/smartmontools/+bug/1858121 is within the bounds of the hardware maintenance phase. [Bug 1738593] [NEW] disks should synchronize with fstab
Public bug reported: When gnome-disk-utility formats a disk it assigns a new UUID. UUID is the preferred way to identify disks in fstab. Problem is that gnome-disk-utility does *not* update fstab. As a consequence the system will not boot & newbies will be stumped. (I was for two days). Therefore gnome-disk-utility must check fstab and if appropriate not assign a new UID or update fstab or alert the user to update fstab. And, yes, this is a bug, albeit a bug in the design, but still a bug. please read up bug #1012081 = Applications in the default desktop - specifically gnome-disk-utility - depend on behaviour only introduced in util-linux 2.21+. Specifically if you select "Show in user interface" in mount options, it adds the mount option "x-gvfs-show" to the mount options in /etc/fstab. Mounting of this mount point then fails because the option is unrecognised. in particular, comment #51 = [...] The fstab entries done by the gnome-disk-utility v 3.10.0 which comes with 14.04.2 are still causing problems at boot. I originally installed 11.10 which then upgraded itself to whatever.
