[Bug 1972983] Re: File dialog in snap firefox does not have keyboard focus
I've observed a similar issue, since the Ubuntu 22.04 upgrade. Though, I can not confirm 100% that the issue happened exactly on the updated date. It might have been caused by one of the Firefox upgrades. I am currently on version 100. For me, the focus in the save dialog constantly switches to the file list area. It makes it almost impossible to type the file name. When I type one character, this character is inserted into the file name edit field. But then the focus changes to the file list area. The problem is that laptop go to suspend during boot because lid is closed. The behavior is actually highly depends on the hardware you use. It works for me with Lenovo Thinkpad P52 + Lenovo Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 Gen2 dock station. Here is my full logind.conf: #NAutoVTs=6 #ReserveVT=6 #KillUserProcesses=no #KillOnlyUsers= #KillExcludeUsers=root #InhibitDelayMaxSec=5 #HandlePowerKey=poweroff #HandleSuspendKey=suspend #HandleHibernateKey=hibernate HandleLidSwitch=lock HandleLidSwitchExternalPower=lock HandleLidSwitchDocked=ignore #PowerKeyIgnoreInhibited=no #SuspendKeyIgnoreInhibited=no #HibernateKeyIgnoreInhibited=no #LidSwitchIgnoreInhibited=yes #HoldoffTimeoutSec=30s #IdleAction=ignore #IdleActionSec=30min #RuntimeDirectorySize=10% #RemoveIPC=yes #InhibitorsMax=8192 #SessionsMax=8192 Here is the ways i found to deal with that: 1) Play with logind.conf params (https://www.freedesktop.org/software/systemd/man/logind.conf.html - manual for configuration) 2) Use gnome-tweaks to disable suspend on lid closed (it actually creates ~/.config/autostart/ignore-lid-switch-tweak.desktop to achieve this) - does nothing for me 3) There is an option (which i use in combination with logind.conf) in Lenovo BIOS to use external docked monitor as main screen during boot - check if there is similar option in your BIOS. I can reproduce it but only in: * GNOME Shell 3.36.4 * KDE Plasma Shell 5.18.5 But in XFCE, LXDE, LXQT, MATE and others ++ works fine for me. At first, I've tried to use `sudo chvt 2` for switching form KDE on tty1 to Raw Console on tty2. After switching to tty2 ++ works as in early days. It doesn't depends on video drivers or kernel flags and etc. For my laptop I've got the same for nvidia:455.38 and for i915, with modeset and with nomodset, with GFX grub mode and without. But I guess, this is not a system or hardware problem, because there are no any troubles with small environments. So after some research I found, that you can use `sudo kbd_mode`. Just my 0.02 cents. Why not to introduce transaction concept for key presses? You just go too far. Xorg developers don't apply the patch because _any_ such events should be sent on press, not on release. afaict, the desired behaviour for a ctrl+shift groupchange is:
ctrl down → set Control modifier
shift down → set Shift modifier
if (other key pressed)
send event Contrl+Shift+other key

change group
The XKB map for left control in this case is:
key LCTL { [ Control_L, ISO_Next_Group ] };
So whenever ISO_Next_Group is pressed, you still need to know which
modifier to
set in case the group action isn't executed. The XkbSA_SetMod,
XkbSA_LockMod,
etc. actions provide the modifiers set for a given key, hence why it works
currently. This information comes from the client when the xkb map is loaded
and is used to trigger the modifier flags for a given key. The
XkbSA_LockGroup
behaviour (which is triggered at ISO_Next_Group) does not have this field
(adding it would break ABI), so you need to guess which modifiers to set if
you
didn't trigger this action. This is the main stumbling point that I found
and
if you look at Ilya's patch that's where he needs the big hack that I'm not
comfortable at all with it.
I do not agree. You do not need to know/guess which modifiers to set - whenever
ISO_Next_Group is pressed I just don't execute it immediately but delay it till
a key release (by the means of _XkbNextFreeFilter()/_XkbApplyFilters() ). Btw,
that trick was suggested by Daniel Stone (somewhere on the mail list).
And I want to note that where I comment :KLUDGE: I mean a different
thing: in theory that branch of code should do the same thing as the
switch in XkbHandleActions() ; but, in practice I see (and want) only
XkbSA_SetMods action (so kludge here is copy-n-paste from
XkbHandleActions() ).
Now, I don't know if there are layouts where the modifier mask would be
different on the second level as opposed to the first (and Ilya's hack or a
similar attempt would fail completely) but there's so many layouts that
it'll
take a while to get through them all.
(do not understand properly the above, sorry) The only situation the patch fails
(just behaves old way, and nothing more!) is when switching is set up as just
one key like Right Alt. That is because of the line
fake_state.mods = 0;
, mods here is 0 anyway = we can't block XkbSA_LockGroup .
Anyway, nobody wants more,- but only (de facto standard) Ctrl+Shift and
Alt+Shift on release. I think this is the situation where the practice
begins and the theory ends.

For people looking for a good workaround: I've installed faenza-icon-theme from ppa:tiheum/equinox It's great theme, so you could just change to it (with help of gnome-tweak-tool), and probably be happy. But I still prefer ubuntu-mono, so I did this trick: Copy /usr/share/icons/ubuntu-mono-dark to ~/.local/share/icons/ubuntu-mono-dark Edit index.theme: replace Inherits=Humanity-Dark,gnome,hicolor with Inherits=Faenza-Ambiance,Humanity-Dark,gnome,hicolor Regenerate cache: gtk-update-icon-cache . Now I have missing search icon from faenza theme, it fits very nice. Hi, Alexander! daniels i'm inclined to not apply it, as it directly contradicts the xkb spec, and is also apparently buggy (see the upstream bug report with some people complaining that it breaks occasionally) The patch is not buggy, the only issue complained was my own (see more at http://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=865 ). And the reason is known - LED's highlighting confilcts with the patch, 1) it can be safely avoided, 2) it is just a little tech problem which can be done. daniels well, we could write the spec better for xkb2 ;) daniels yeah, i'm not personally affected by it as i only use US layout daniels i can see that it sucks, but otoh i don't like contradicting the spec for no good reason I start to think it is a discrimination. No xkb2 writing is required! My first suggestion was to add my patch as configuration option; so the default installation of Xorg works as expected, and there is no spec contradiction. Oded, No, my patch doesn't block anything on release: keyboard layout is switched *along* with SCIM triggering (for David Fraser). SRU justification. This is a minor but annoying bug that already collected a couple of duplicates. It was fixed in upstream version 0.12.6 and thus in Lucid. The patch posted here is taken from upstream (http://git.gnome.org/browse/rhythmbox/commit/?id=d655375d6321ce91ba51cf0a5fe217333b62ad6b). TEST CASE: 1. Open rhythmbox. 2. Select an album, start the last track. 3. Use the search-position-bar to go near the end of the music file. 4. Wait until the playback finishes. 5. Press Play-Button (in program or notification-icon) OR double click on another music file or another album OR select another album or music file and press the button 6. The play button will push in, the album art will load and the song will get the Playing icon next to it, but it won't be playing. It's just a one-line change! And this patch was used in Debian (version 0.12.5-2).
