nome-shell[2267]: message repeated 3 times: [ Can't update stage views actor

This seems associated too.

[Bug 1571059] Re: Software center repeatedly ask to download an update.

2016-04-15 Thread Jérôme Poulin
Exactly, it seems that after fixing all apt-get update related problems
and rebooting, I don't get this prompt anymore.

I wasn't sure at first that the new software center was related to apt.

I also had a problem with our proxy (apt-cacher-ng) which I had to
upgrade from 0.8 to 0.9.1 (backport) on our Debian Jessie proxy server.

I still get warnings but not failure about signing keys which I'll fix
for our repo but Google's own seems to be problematic too.

It seems the new software center should make the user aware of such
problem.

[Bug 945488] Re: nautilus image preview shows old version of files

2012-03-04 Thread Jérôme
I happens every time.

The preview doesn't seem to be updated when the timestamp of the image
changes.

Of course, each time I remove images from the camera, the new photos get
the same name than the previous (numbering starts always with the same
number).

The camera is mounted as a normal usb storage under /media/NO NAME.

[Bug 835435] Re: gdmsetup should allow to change the image background

2011-08-27 Thread Jérôme
The only way I found on a Ubuntu wiki is :

1. install the capplets-data package

2. execute the below command :
sudo ln -s /usr/share/applications/gnome-appearance-properties.desktop
/usr/share/gdm/autostart/LoginWindow/

3. logout

4. replace the background image of the gdm greeter by a background
colour

5. login again

6. execute the below command :
unlink /usr/share/gdm/autostart/LoginWindow/gnome-appearance-properties.desktop

7. remove the capplets-data package and all its dependencies

[Bug 511288] Re: middle button isn't easy for dragging the document

2010-01-24 Thread Jérôme
Below are the solutions I can imagine :

A. key pressed as mode selector

When pressing the shift key, the mouse cursor changes from a hand to a
caret cursor. Next the mouse can be used for selection and automatic
copy like it is currently doing.

B. button mode selector in the toolbar

2 buttons in the toolbar could display the current mode and allow to
change it as well. One button could select the dragging mode and stay
depressed until the user click on the second button which could select
the copy mode. The second button would stay depressed while the copy
mode is active.

C. Simultaneous operation of 2 previous solutions

When the mouse cursors comes over the copy mode button, an help ballon
could display that this mode is accessible with the shift key too. When
pressing the shift key, then the copy mode button state change to
depressed and comes back to inactive state when the shift key is
released or the user pressed the dragging mode button.

Ok, then the middle button isn't user friendly. The left button would be
better for that.

Thus I filed the specific bug #511288 .

[Bug 511288] [NEW] middle button isn't easy for dragging the document

The middle button of the mouse isn't easy to use for dragging the

Maybe an other solution would be the solution used by Google Earth :
click with the mouse on a virtual joystick. The more you move the mouse
pointer from the initial position, the quicker the document moves in the
oposite way. When you come back to the initial position or release the
mouse button, then the move stops.

[Bug 506455] Re: can't catch & drag the document with the mouse

2010-01-15 Thread Jérôme
Steps to reproduce:
1. open a pdf file with evince
2. zoom in order to make the document use more space than the window.

The behavior I'm expecting:
1. maintain the left button of the mouse pressed while the cursor is on the
document view
2. moving the mouse will move the document

The behavior I'm currently encountering:
I can't make the document follow the mouse cursor.

[Bug 470819] [NEW] gdm needs too much memory when unused

The gdm processes are using 10MB while we are using the XFCE

Is there no way to unload the program and keep only a tiny program loader which
will load the full gdm feature when logging out ? I prefer an add-hoc unloading
than a swap memory use.

[Bug 442148] [NEW] too long default delay before suspending screen

2009-10-04 Thread Jérôme
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

I saw that the screen will be suspended after 30 minutes of inactivity.

I think this delay is too long even when operating on main supply.

This make the end user pay too much money for electricity. Moreover it
pollutes too much since electricity production is generating nuclear
wastes or greenhouse effect gases.

Maybe 10 minutes would be a good tradeoff.

2009-09-10 Thread Jérôme
The new 12" notebooks have powerfull processors and thus allows to use
the standard Ubuntu flavor instead of the netbook edition.

However the default 2nd panel is wasting place in height. Moreover, the
new displays are mostly with a 16/10 or 16/9 aspect ratio.

It is boring each new notebook user who has to remove the 2nd panel and
add the new applets in the 1st one by hand.

Linux.

However, the default graphical login isn't user friendly: we don't have
the list of users and the newbie doesn't know what to type.

I think this kind of difficulty shouldn't appear on an Ubuntu distro.

[Bug 422465] [NEW] not visible in the applications menu

2009-09-01 Thread Jérôme
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: file-roller

This should be listed in the list of the applications we can use.

For launching File Roller, you have to launch Thunar and know that you
can create an archive by right-clicking.

This isn't easy. Even a skilled user may think there is no archive
manager installed.

[Bug 19076] Re: Abiword help always opens Epiphany instead of preferred application (firefox)

This happens because abiwrod uses the BROWSER environment variable.

Adding the following line to your .bashrc should fix the bug:

export BROWSER=/usr/bin/firefox

[Bug 326967] Re: can't go to next image with the mouse

2009-02-09 Thread Jérôme
For example, with GQView I use the scroll button of the mouse for moving
to the next or the previous image or just click on the left button to go
to the next image.

This is also the default behavior of the image viewer a widely used OS
to which the users of my Ubuntu box may come back if they continue to
get such a bad experience.

So, in few esay steps:
1- new mail (CTRL+N)
2- i clic on "To:" for access to my adresses book
3- i select a contact and clic on "add->"; at this step, the contact
disappears from the list at the left hand side and I can't select it
another time

Re: [Bug 319782] Re: email adresse in "contacts" is not still available when already selected once for a field "to:

2009-01-22 Thread Jérôme MELEARD
Hello,
Just to show you what happens when i write a new email and when i want
to select twice one contact for example.
I join two screen prints, i don't know if it could help you:
In capture1, i select the first contact of my list to move it after in
"To:" field. In "capture2", the contact has been selected and writen in
the "To:" field but disappears from the contacts list in the left hand
side.

I'm just a new Ubuntu user and not so good in computer. So i feel
difficult to answer to your questions with others OS as Intrepid and
Jaunty. I don't know how to make operating these OS withe the current
Evolution version because if i try to launch corresponding live cds, the
version of Evolution included will probably be anterior, no ?
May be i forgot to select an option in Evolution menus ?
Thanks to your response in advance. I will try to help you as i can.

[Bug 319782] [NEW] email adresse in "contacts" is not still available when already selected once for a field "to:

2009-01-21 Thread Jérôme MELEARD
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

This problem is not really a bug but it appeared to me important to report as
this functionality is available in other mail softs.
It relates to the contacts selection in writing an email. When a contact is
already selected for a field (To:" for example), it disappears from the list
for the filling of the other fields (Cc: or other) whereas it occurs needing to
send a message at the same contact but at its different adresses.
