[Bug 568994] Re: Shutdown, from System > Shutdown or via gnome applet not working consistently
The Open Office quickstart tool is clearly having an impact. Following on from the above post when I shutdown this afternoon, initially it did the total lack of action I am coming to expect. I then did a clean exit of the OO quickstart tool and then shutdown worked! So something, within OpenOffice and probably the quickstart tool, is interfering with the normal shutdown processing on lucid. What additional debug is needed? -- Shutdown, from System > Shutdown or via gnome applet not working consistently https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/568994 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-panel in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 568994] Re: Shutdown, from System > Shutdown or via gnome applet not working consistently
I have Ooffice installed and I use Quickstarter. THe next time it fails to shutdown, I'll kill QUickstarter and then try the shutdown again. If that allows a shutdown then we have our suspect. -- Shutdown, from System > Shutdown or via gnome applet not working consistently https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/568994 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-panel in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Ok, I'll accept that. I'm also willing to provide as much debug as necessary to get this fixed. -- Shutdown, from System > Shutdown or via gnome applet not working consistently https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/568994 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-panel in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Chris, I am not sure that 544139 applies. My netbook has an Atom processor which does not support VT. Also nothing else fails to wok just the inability to shutdown the system via the standard methods without the need to open up a terminal.
Sebastien, these are indeed standard options, just not default. As all these options bring up the same shutdown|reboot|suspend|hibernate selection panel, the symptoms are the same. I have used the default option, now known as the MeMenu, which I do not like and therefore choose not to use and instead use the equally valid alternatives. I do hope that your choice to mark this as low was not ifluenced by your definitions of what is standard or default and what a user should or should not be using. -- Shutdown, from System > Shutdown or via gnome applet not working consistently https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/568994 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-panel in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 568994] [NEW] Shutdown, from System > Shutdown or via gnome applet not working consistently
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-panel Problem: Since upgrading to Lucid(Beta 1) from Karmic, I have been troubled by the inability to shutdown my Samsung NC10 netbook using the System > Shutdown or Shutdown applet in gnome. I am now at Lucid RC level for all curent fixes and this problem remains. The same is seen when performing a reboot. For the most cases these options does nothing. Repeated selection of the shutdown option changes nothing. To shutdown or reboot I have to use the terminal and sudo shutdown -h now. This did not happen in Karmic and it happens 80% of the time in Lucid. I have experienced this with multiple levels of the 2.6.32 kernel. ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.04 Package: gnome (not installed) ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.32-21.33~ppa3~loms~lucid-generic 2.6.32.11+drm33.2 Uname: Linux 2.6.32-21-generic i686 Architecture: i386 Date: Fri Apr 23 14:09:27 2010 InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 9.10 "Karmic Koala" - Release i386 (20091028.5) ProcEnviron: PATH=(custom, user) LANG=en_GB.utf8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: meta-gnome2 ** Affects: gnome-panel (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: apport-bug i386 lucid -- Shutdown, from System > Shutdown or via gnome applet not working consistently https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/568994 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-panel in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 403441] Re: gdm-simple-slave crashed with signal 5 in g_return_if_fail_warning()
Updated karmic with the latest fixes as of 10am GMT. Rebooted. Ran the new app to launch cagvpn and this time it did not cause the "bug" as specified in this bug report. Either 1) The App has nothing to do with the crash 2) The crash is random 3) Something fixed it (there was a GDM update). The App itself still fails to let me access anything on the VPN which is probably a separate bug. -- gdm-simple-slave crashed with signal 5 in g_return_if_fail_warning() https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/403441 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

The VPN was a linux version of the Citrix Access Gateway Citrix Access Gateway Plugin Version: 4604400 I used System > Preferences > Main Menu to create a new "application in terminal" running the command "cagvpn --login" FYI: This plugin works on Jaunty [starts in a terminal, makes VPN link, can web to the citrix metaframe presentation website] The plugin does not work on Karmic [starts in a terminal, makes VPN link, nothing will load or ping or connect.
