[Bug 1573408] Re: GNOME Software does not install third-party .deb packages

2016-05-06 Thread Jaime Fernando Ortega Culaciati
Ok everyone, I've attempted to use the update manager in a live-usb, and it
shows the update for gnome-software. So, a fresh install should receive the
update without using the console.
It looks like that those who've tested the patch will have to update via:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

Greetings to everyone, I'm glad that this bug was fixed. Thanks to
everyone that was involved in fixing this.

[Bug 1573408] Re: GNOME Software does not install third-party .deb packages

2016-05-04 Thread Jaime Fernando Ortega Culaciati
H... I've just noticed that by running 'sudo apt-get upgrade' shows
that there is an update for the gnome-software, but the GUI (Software
Updater) doesn't show it. Maybe it's lacking a dependency.

Please, change the status of this bug. The fix of gnome-software
(ubuntu) isn't in the official repository, it's just in the xenial-

I can confirm that the xenial-proposed version of gnome-software fixes
this bug. I've just tested it with the 'atom-amd64.deb' package
downloaded from atom.io and the dropbox package too.

(anjuta:30976): Gdk-ERROR **: The program 'anjuta' received an X Window System

This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadLength (poly request too large or internal Xlib length erro'.

minor_code 0)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the GDK_SYNCHRONIZE environment
variable to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

[Bug 411941] Re: f-spot.exe crashes when using new wave theme

2010-02-02 Thread Jaime Fernando Ortega Culaciati
It looks like this bug is fixed!
Today I updated Ubuntu and I've noticed that there was a new patch for
gtk2-engines-pixbuf... so I decided to test f-spot using new wave theme and
there were no crashes.
I've restarted my computer after update.
Can someone please confirm this?

[Bug 385445] Re: [i915GM/GMS/910GML and GM965/GL960] Monitor does not turn back on and computer hangs when laptop lid is closed

2009-11-15 Thread Jaime Puente
I have this problem on a Dell Latitude X300 using ubuntu 9.10 and
kubuntu 9.10. In 9.04 it doesn't happen. My video card is 00:02.0 VGA
compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation 82852/855GM Integrated
Graphics Device [8086:3582] (rev 02). I have tested the built'in kernel
and 2.6.31.rc9 with the same result. When I close the lid and open again
the screen remains blank appearing only the cursor without movement. I
can't change the tty or force the reboot via REISUB combination. I only
can press the power button to force it to shutdown.

I have modified the grub.cfg to include nomodeset. This prevents the
computer to hang, but the screen becomes corrupted when the lid is
opened. You can fix it by changing from tty7 to other tty, and then
returning to tty7.

Hope this helps and thanks to all!

2009-10-31 Thread Jaime Fernando Ortega Culaciati
Yeah applying the patch (submitted by Ricardo) to the source of
system-tools-backends works very nice.
This is what i did:
1.- sudo apt-get source system-tools-backends and decompress it.
2.- sudo patch /home/jfoc/system-tools-backends-2.8.2/Users/Users.pm
../Descargas/fix-deleting-users.patch
3.- sudo ./configure sudo make sudo make install
4.- Delete an user using users-admin.
5.- close or restart, and you'll see that the user you've tried to delete is
gone.

[Bug 216871] Re: gdm uses incorrect resolution

2009-04-04 Thread Jaime Carpenter
Greetings, I am using Hardy 8.04.2 and this issue is not fixed for me.
Because Hardy is an LTS release, I am hoping that the issue with GDM not
using the Gnome settings will be corrected for Hardy users.

I seem to be completely unable to get GDM to use my preferred 1280x800
resolution which is working fine in Gnome. I have tried several options
including the Virtual line and also sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh
xserver-xorg

GDM has now gone from 1280x768 to 1360x768. Any help will be
appreciated.

[Bug 330756] Re: Totem hangs entire system when playing ogg vorbis, ogg theora or mp3

2009-02-18 Thread Jaime Carpenter
Lupine, Thank you for the continued encouragement sorting through this
issue.

I have installed MPlayer and found that it also hung on the video file.
I then rebooted and tried the ogg vorbis file and it played. So MPlayer
got it half correct. :)

These are the files being tested as included with Ubuntu 8.04.2 (Hardy Heron)
LTS:
-Experience ubuntu.ogg
-ubuntu Sax.ogg

I will review the process at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash and gather more
information.

Sebastien, I reported this error as with Totem because I could and can
reproduce it every time. As a troubleshooting effort I have to start
with what I can reproduce and work from there. I realize this may
ultimately be an issue with other software on my system, however, I'm
doing my best to be descriptive so that others who may encounter a
similar problem will have a place to begin. I will gladly provide any
logs that will help resolve this issue. Since I am new to this process,
please be verbose as to which log file or files I need to include.

[Bug 330756] [NEW] Totem hangs entire system when playing ogg vorbis, ogg theora or mp3

2009-02-17 Thread Jaime Carpenter
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

Totem hangs my system anytime I try to play media files. It is Totem
2.22.1 running on Hardy 8.04.2 on an IBM Thinkpad R400. I tried the
example video Experience ubuntu.ogg, the example audio ubuntu
Sax.ogg and an MP3 file. I tried the MP3 file after installing the
gstreamer plugins.

I will be glad to provide more hardware details. I have tried it with
and without desktop effects enabled. The screen resolution is 1280x800.

When the system hangs, only the mouse moves. All other activity is
frozen. I have to force a power off to recover.

[Bug 327890] Re: gcalctool squared negative number gives a negative result

2009-02-14 Thread Jaime Carpenter
I think my newness is showing. Considering your explanation, I realize
that tools in the GNU/Linux community are more explicit and probably
more powerful than I am accustomed to. It would not have occurred to me
to use parenthesis for -6 squared.

To the question about (6+5)^2, I would have probably entered 11 squared
on the Calculator.

This may be a case of educating the user (me) about the operation of the
tool and higher math. Seems I can't defend this as a bug because there
may be many ways to accomplish the task.

Thanks for clearing this up for me.

[Bug 327890] Re: gcalctool squared negative number gives a negative result

2009-02-10 Thread Jaime Carpenter
I believe that it is a UI problem then, because I was simply following a
similar method that I would use with Windows Calc. Maybe that is not
the greatest excuse or comparison, but that's what led me to file this
report.

If the keys are shortcut keys, then I expect them to alter the input in
a way that yields the correct result. How else can you use the shortcut
keys to get the correct result for -6 squared?

[Bug 202210] Re: gcalctool has problem with big sums

2008-07-06 Thread Jaime Carpenter
I am having a similar problem. The result of a large string of numbers
added together does not display once enter is pressed. The result can
be seen by maximizing/restoring the window.

gcalctool 5.2.2

This problem also presents itself at maximized 1280x800 resolution when
the series of numbers is larger than the display area and causes a
scroll bar to appear. Pressing enter after the scroll bar, will not
show the proper result, but restoring the window will correct the
display.

[Bug 86749] Re: evince does not automatically set or remember the paper size

2008-06-05 Thread Jaime Atahualpa Lopez Sollano
This is a me too for zanonmark's comment (altough in reverse, as Charles
Twardy). I am using Hardy, been using Gutsy and Feisty. All of them had
the same issue. Perhaps it has something to do with having upgraded and
not made a fresh install? Or something to do with my locale? (btw my
LANG variable is set to es_MX.UTF-8)

I've also tried changing /etc/papersize, using the system-config-printer
tool, but nothing helped. So, I've had to change the papersize every
time i open a document for printing

To make it clear: If I just send a newly opened document to the printer,
it goes as A4 paper. I have to change the paper size in the File/Printer
settings menu (or something like that, my menu is in spanish) and change
the paper size to US Letter. This stays in effect until I close this
document.

[Bug 229068] Re: Evolution crashes with ICS attachment

2008-05-29 Thread Jaime
Some recent upgrade has fixed this issue, at least for me. Now I can
work with ICS perfectly fine.

Thanks

[Bug 229068] [NEW] Evolution crashes with ICS attachment

2008-05-10 Thread Jaime
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

1) My system : Description: Ubuntu 8.04 Release:8.04 (x86_64)
2) Package version : evolution 2.22.1-0ubuntu3.1
3) Trying to open / preview an ICS attach with meeting information
4) On the status bar it says: Retrieving message N (100% completed) just
before completely hanging.
Version included with gutsy worked fine. It happens with every ICS attachment I
receive. Tested with both Lotus Notes and GMail generated ICS attachments.

I have attached an ICS sample in order to reproduce

[Bug 25931] Re: Failed to initalize HAL.

2008-02-02 Thread Jaime Tarrant
I encountered this error on a Debian Etch installation on a MacBook,
dist upgrading to the Testing version.

* Reloading system message bus config... Failed to open connection to system
message bus: Failed to connect to socket /var/run/dbus/system_bus_socket: No
such file or directory
invoke-rc.d: initscript dbus, action force-reload failed.

Repeated retries at apt-get dist-upgrade failed with the same error
until I manually restarted dbus by:

/etc/init.d/dbus restart

Then, the dist-upgrade worked fine. And the machine works as expected
without any dbus/hal issues there after.

[Bug 148138] High cpu usage on Xorg with gnome-terminal and transparency

2007-10-02 Thread Jaime
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-terminal

With the upgrade to Gutsy, Xorg increases cpu usage to 100%.

It may be related with transparency in gnome-terminal, because turning it off
lowers the usage to about a 2-3%
It is more evident by opening new tabs (there is a lag of 1-2 secs)

I'm using a Lenovo Thinkpad T60 with an ATI X1300, Xorg and fglrx
propietary driver (no GLX). The composite extension is disabled.

Under gutsy, my hardware configuration performed fine.
