[Bug 959084] Re: empathy-chat consistently uses 9-10 % CPU

2013-08-23 Thread Jan Nekvasil
12.04.2 LTS still uses 0.3.2-0ubuntu1, which is affected by this bug?
It's possible to push 0.3.3 to SRU for Raring too?

[Bug 662766] Re: does not reconnect after suspend/resume

2013-01-17 Thread Jan Nekvasil
I wrote a simple script based on lhotari's suggestion. Just place it in
/etc/pm/sleep.d/ , it should reconnect all accounts of all users running
empathy. Please note that it sets all statuses to online, not to their
previous states on resume.

[Bug 662766] Re: does not reconnect after suspend/resume

2012-06-13 Thread Jan Nekvasil
Ubuntu 12.04 Precise, empathy 3.4.2-0ubuntu1. Empathy sometimes connects
after resume, sometimes don't. In every case the throbber keeps spinning
(which generates more workload for compiz and therefore raise CPU usage
by the way). Only way to make the throbber disappear is to go offline
and online again.

[Bug 532633] Re: [Master] Window Control buttons: position/order/alignment

2010-03-30 Thread Jan Nekvasil
If this can be considered as a valid data, I for myself _strongly_
disliked the change at first, but gave it a try (that's what the
development version is for). After few days I get pretty used to it, and
now I can't imagine having the buttons on the right (pun, pun) side. The
key benefits for me are:

* less mouse movement indeed
* better orientation - all control elements AND the title are nicely grouped
together
* much cleaner look (that's totally the matter of personal taste)

Nevertheless, I will keep the old button layout on my mom's laptop in
the future, unless she ask me to do otherwise (I'm a good son, You
know).

[Bug 507263] Re: Light 1px border around desktop

2010-03-11 Thread Jan Nekvasil
Theme dependent? Yes and no. Yes because that border line changes it's
color according to selected theme (try DarkRoom). No because our line is
exactly the _same_ line which was added to Nautilus few months ago to
prettify the main folders files pane. This line wasn't there before,
and the troubles with the desktop border line started just after it's
first appearance on the stage.

Why the border line appears only after some manipulation with desktop
items remains mystery.

I know that it indicates the inactive pane, of course. But the problem
is that the background color does not go well with the others. If no one

anyway. I was only hoping that this can be fixed easily.

[Bug 509079] Re: nautilus has tabs on bottom

2010-03-03 Thread Jan Nekvasil
Having tabs back on top is nice, but it breaks (again) some other
things. When You are dragging a file from folder to one of the buttons
in breadcrumb navigation, You often go across some other tab. If You are
not fast enough (I mean really fast), crossing the tab activates it and
the path represented by breadcrumb buttons changes to activated tab's
path. Only way to avoid this is to drag upwards across source tab only,
carefully around all other tabs, and then to right/left to destination
button.

When I first saw the tabs at bottom, thought to myself: Oh, they are
aware of this issue and this is supposed to be a fix. I do not declare
that tabs at bottom are the ultimate good solution, but at least it
solved this. Please, if that's possible, leave a gconf key to choose the
tab placement.

[Bug 387723] Re: nautilus-home.desktop silently fails to open home directory when is called by process started early at session startup

2009-10-14 Thread Jan Nekvasil
Still present in Karmic Beta.

Easy to fix, just add that one whitespace and one dot in
/usr/share/applications/nautilus-home.desktop as I mentioned above in
original report. It will be smallest patch ever, solves the problem for
many, breaks nothing. What's the big deal? Who cares if it's gnome-do's
or nautilus fault, people wants the things just works, That's called
workaround or dirty hack. Ubuntu (and other OS's too) is just full of
them, one more (till the real cause is found out solved) hurts nobody.

[Bug 402017] Re: GDM login theme change when using accessibility features

2009-10-14 Thread Jan Nekvasil
That's all because whole directory
/var/lib/gdm/.gconf/desktop/gnome/interface gets deleted by checking
that accessibility checkbox, taking down the according %gconf.xml file
with it. Manual recreation of this directory a it's contents fixes it
until next click on the ACODBIT (Accessibility-Checkbox-Of-Death-By-
Inappropriate-Theme).

[Bug 387723] [NEW] nautilus-home.desktop silently fails to open home directory when is called by process started early at session startup

2009-06-16 Thread Jan Nekvasil
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Nautilus 1:2.26.2-0ubuntu2 silently fails to open user's home directory when is
called trough
/usr/share/applications/nautilus-home.desktop by a process started early at the
GNOME session startup.

This is bug heavily affects the GNOME Do's Files and Folders plugin -
when GNOME Do is set to start with the session, opening home dir by it
latter fails, showing only Starting Home Folder on taskbar for a few
seconds, no further erros emmited. See bug 290136.

This can be easily solved by changing line 6 in /usr/share/applications
/nautilus-home.desktop from Exec=nautilus --no-desktop to
Exec=nautilus --no-desktop .. Notice the whitespace and the dot at the
end, pointing to the current directory, which is in this case user's
home.

[Bug 387723] Re: nautilus-home.desktop silently fails to open home directory when is called by process started early at session startup

2009-06-16 Thread Jan Nekvasil
Try this:

sudo ln -s /usr/share/applications/nautilus-home.desktop
/etc/xdg/autostart

Expected result: Home folder being opened in Nautilus at session startup.
Actual result: Starting Home Folder appears in taskbar at startup for a
while, but no Nautilus window opens.

Change /usr/share/applications/nautilus-home.desktop as suggested, log out, log
in, it works.
Revert the change, relog again, it doesn't.

[Bug 46846] Re: Emblems get cut when scaled to a zoom = 150% (refresh issue)

2009-06-16 Thread Jan Nekvasil
With more than three years opened, widely known, reported upstream and
still not fixed, this bug is a true oldtimer and deserves our respect
and love. Lot of new Ubuntu users had been going through three phases of
Meeting the Nautilus File Manager's features:

1) Wow, such a nice emblems! Let's put some of them on my files and folders for
better orientation! Ubuntu rocks!
2) Even more wow, customizable zoom level! Let's set it for some of my folders
for better navigation! Ubuntu rocks!
3) Eww, what's this mess now? Looks that I must decide which one of these two I
like best... hmm... maybe neither, never mind. Maybe it's my own fault to
demand such a things. Ubuntu... well... rocks anyway, it's definitely my fault.

Dapper. Edgy. Feisty. Gutsy. Hardy. Intrepid. Jaunty. Karmic Alpha 2.

I can't even believe it myself, can You?

Let's fix it for good. In One Hundred Papercuts project.

I confirm this bug on current Jaunty, with PPP connection not managed by

[Bug 379428] [NEW] gnome-display-properties confirmation dialog mostly appears under the Display preferences window

2009-05-22 Thread Jan Nekvasil
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

The timed confirmation dialog, which appears right after changing screen
resolution / display layout in gnome-display-properties, is mostly
placed under the the Display preferences window (sometimes even
completely covered by it). Given the importance of this dialog, which
demands user's promptly reaction, it should be set as Always on top
(or opened on top under all conditions at least).

How to reproduce: Plug an external monitor (best with different native
resolution) to your laptop, open Display preferences, set the laptop
display to off and the external display to on, click Apply. If
confirmation dialog appears correctly on top by accident, repeat the
steps above until it happens.

This bug affects gnome-control-center 1:2.26.0-0ubuntu3 (9.04 Jaunty).
