I open any random contact that I have with a birthday, and I just modify that entry - usually by adding a space to the notes field. Click OK, go back to the calendar, and that contact's birthday will appear in the calendar. If I shutdown Evolution, and start it up again, that calendar does not show that - or any other - birthdays.
