I've seen the same situation in Jaunty (both i386 and amd64). I got the same error when trying to remove it. If y add "--force- overwrite", dpkg complains saying: dpkg: error processing python-gobject-dbg (--remove): Package is in a very bad inconsistent state - you should reinstall it before attempting a removal.
