I was using the latest version of glib 2.75 as packaged in Debian experimental for a few days, but my sound broke. [Bug 2003104] Re: gnome-terminal transparency ignored in full screen mode
I verified that this regression also shows in Fedora 37. I verified there because Fedora and Ubuntu ship a patch to enable transparency in gnome-terminal; gnome-terminal upstream does not have that feature. I also verified that this regression was introduced in mutter 43.1. (transparency works in 43.0 but not in 43.1). With that information, I found an upstream bug report. [Bug 1993214] Re: [jammy] Update gjs to 1.74 using mozjs102 102.3
Marc, 102.6 was officially released today, so I've gone ahead and updated my jammy mozjs branch for it. I added the CVEs you mentioned and found one more I found from 102.4. I don't see any new ones for 102.6 I've also created a ubuntu/102/kinetic branch for mozjs102 for kinetic. Since it doesn't have the gjs major update issue, I believe it could be pushed sooner than jammy. For Jammy, I think the general plan is for this update to be built in security-proposed and then published/copied to jammy-proposed for wider testing before being pushed to jammy-security. My understanding is that the Ubuntu Desktop and Ubuntu SRU teams have come to an agreement that we will test all the gnome-shell extensions that are available in the official Ubuntu repositories (for 22.04 LTS and later). Extensions installed outside of the official Ubuntu repositories are unsupported, just like anything that is user-installed outside of Ubuntu. However, we aren't aware of any likely breakage for any GNOME Shell extensions caused by this proposed update. There is no formal API for GNOME Shell extensions which allows extensions to have tremendous power but it's easily possible for an extension to break GNOME Shell so that it's not possible for GNOME Shell to run correctly or even start. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gjs in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1993214 Title: [jammy] Update gjs to 1.74 using mozjs102 102.3 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gjs/+bug/1993214/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

The current version is packaged with source package name vte2.91 vte is still around in Debian because debian-installer has not yet switched to GTK3. However, Ubuntu no longer supports debian-installer and nothing in Ubuntu uses the old vte. [Bug 1993214] Re: [jammy] Update gjs to 1.74 using mozjs102 102.3
** Description changed: Impact -- GNOME Shell uses the SpiderMonkey JavaScript engine from Firefox ESR (mozjs). Firefox 92 ESR has reached end of life; therefore, we should switch to the 102 ESR series for security updates for the next year. This requires updating gjs from 1.72 to 1.74 from GNOME 43, as packaged in Ubuntu 22.10. This will be done as a Security Update. Updating mozjs in stable Ubuntu releases was recommended when Ubuntu first switched back to GNOME, but this is the first time it's been done. Security Impact --- I looked through https://github.com/mozilla/gecko-dev/commits/esr102/js and searched for referenced bug numbers in https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/security/advisories/ for Firefox ESR releases since Ubuntu's 91.10 and found one CVE. Also, there's the vague Mozilla Bug 1771084 (no CVE issued) mentioned at https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/security/advisories/mfsa2022-24/ Uploaded Packages - We will introduce mozjs102, a new source package for Ubuntu 22.04 LTS, being careful to publish it in main, not universe. And we'll update gjs. No other packages need to be updated for this change. mozjs91 will remain in Ubuntu 22.04 LTS (source package removals are generally not possible), but nothing else in Ubuntu uses it. Test Case - https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DesktopTeam/TestPlans/gjs Security Sponsoring --- sudo apt install git-buildpackage gbp clone https://salsa.debian.org/gnome-team/gjs cd gjs git checkout ubuntu/jammy gbp buildpackage --git-builder="debuild -S -nc" - mkdir -p tarballs; cd tarballs + mkdir ../tarballs; cd ../tarballs pull-lp-source mozjs102 kinetic cd .. gbp clone https://salsa.debian.org/gnome-team/mozjs cd mozjs git checkout ubuntu/102/jammy gbp buildpackage --git-builder="debuild --no-lintian -S -nc" --git-tarball-dir=../tarballs # That avoids needing to recreate the original tarball from pristine-tar which takes a while. Also, running lintian takes a while. Initial Testing Done I built the packages in my PPA. I installed the packages on Ubuntu 22.04 LTS and successfully completed the Test Case.

[Bug 1993835] Re: Update evolution to 3.46.1
After installing evolution-data-server 3.46.1-0ubuntu1, I installed evolution 3.46.1-0ubuntu1. I logged out and successfully used Evolution to view HTML email and send an email. For previous microrelease Evolution SRUs for Ubuntu 22.04 LTS, I intentionally let evolution-data-server fully phase before verifying evolution. This was done out of an abundance of caution to avoid possible apt phasing upgrade issues. But many of those issues were solved months ago. Arguably, Ubuntu 22.04 LTS had more of those issues because there weren't enough SRUs in the non-LTS releases to fully test complex upgrades. So let's phase these simultaneously. There shouldn't be an issue. ** Tags removed: verification-needed verification-needed-kinetic ** Tags added: verification-done verification-done-kinetic -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evolution in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1993835 Title: Update evolution to 3.46.1 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evolution/+bug/1993835/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1998082] Re: Hotspot Login window [gnome-shell-portal-helper] randomly opens with https://help.ubuntu.com
NetworkManager's connectivity check is very flaky on Ubuntu 22.10 now. You can force retries by running this command in a terminal. nmcli networking connectivity check I don't understand why there is a redirect to help.ubuntu.com since that website isn't in the NetworkManager or GNOME Shell or webkit2gtk source code. Maybe it's a configuration issue with http://connectivity- check.ubuntu.com ? (In a normal web browser, that site returns a blank or nonexistant page with status code 204, as intended.) I also tried NetworkManager 1.40.4 from Ubuntu 23.04 but it didn't fix this issue. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1998082 Title: Hotspot Login window [gnome-shell-portal-helper] randomly opens with https://help.ubuntu.com To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1998082/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

I installed gnome-calendar 43.1-0ubuntu1 and successfully completed the test case. [Bug 1993831] Re: gnome-shell does not contain gjs dependence
I am closing this bug. In the upstream report, upstream confirms that gnome-shell itself does not need 'gjs', only the gjs library. The gnome-shell-extension-prefs app packaged as a .deb correctly depends on gjs. A default Ubuntu Desktop install includes gjs. For you to remove gjs, you will have needed to remove the GNOME Characters app and the Desktop Icons NG extension and the ubuntu-desktop metapackage. At that point, you're outside the fully supported Ubuntu Desktop experience. Maybe the Flatpak needs to bundle 'gjs' if it requires gjs. ** Changed in: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid ** Changed in: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Low ** Changed in: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) Status: Invalid => Triaged -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1993831 Title: gnome-shell does not contain gjs dependence To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1993831/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1993831] Re: gnome-shell does not contain gjs dependence
After I started typing this comment, upstream left a later comment "gnome-shell includes some small external D-Bus services - namely org.gnome.Shell.Extensions.service, org.gnome.Shell.Notifications.service and org.gnome.Shell.Screencast.service - that require the standalone gjs executable. The package that provides /usr/bin/gjs should therefore be a dependency of the package that includes those services (gnome- shell/gnome-shell-common)." Having working notifications and screencasting is important, so I'm reopening this bug.
Test Case - https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DesktopTeam/TestPlans/gjs - Prerequisite - - We need to get mozjs102 on the i386 whitelist for Ubuntu 22.04 LTS - Security Sponsoring --- sudo apt install git-buildpackage gbp clone https://salsa.debian.org/gnome-team/gjs cd gjs git checkout ubuntu/jammy gbp buildpackage --git-builder="debuild -S -nc" mkdir -p tarballs; cd tarballs pull-lp-source mozjs102 kinetic cd .. gbp clone https://salsa.debian.org/gnome-team/mozjs cd mozjs git checkout ubuntu/102/jammy gbp buildpackage --git-builder="debuild --no-lintian -S -nc" --git-tarball-dir=../tarballs # That avoids needing to recreate the original tarball from pristine-tar which takes a while. [Bug 1992498] Re: Disable offline update feature
** Description changed: Impact -- The GNOME Software app has a feature to install updates when powering off the computer. (Screenshot attached.) This is unnecessary in Ubuntu since we already ask to restart when there are updates that we know need a restart to be applied. GNOME Software may also prevent installing updates except by restarting the computer which is frustrating to people who don't want to restart immediately. GNOME Software does not provide an option to turn this feature off. Years ago, Ubuntu's version of the GNOME Software .deb disabled this feature, but it was (unintentionally?) dropped when we resynced our packaging with Debian after switching the Ubuntu Store to be provided by a snap instead of a .deb. This issue affects Ubuntu Budgie and Xubuntu which ship the .deb version of GNOME Software. It also affects people who have uninstalled the snap and installed the .deb. + + This patch actually disables all apt updates. This is ok for Ubuntu + because we use update-manager for apt updates and all non-KDE official + desktop flavors depend on update-manager. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-software in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1992498 Title: Disable offline update feature To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-software/+bug/1992498/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

This is a minor issue. The evolution-calendar.desktop is not intended to be used by anything except as an internal feature for GNOME Shell. [Bug 1938621] Re: nautilus
Sorry, we're not going to make this change. However, I think we could accept a patch to add OnlyShowIn=GNOME; to the .desktop and add an additional .desktop with NotShowIn=GNOME; with the Name set to Nautilus. There's a chance upstream would accept that change. And I'd like to see it proposed upstream before we accept it into Ubuntu.
