[Bug 64064] Re: would be nice to add ~/bin to the default PATH
There are risks -- users can add in-path executables to the system, making it easier for an exploit to be leashed against the user. A malicious script can install a bunch of tools under similar names to existing commands (i.e. ks instead of ls) so that the next time the user types that on accident, something bad happens. Of course, if a program has been compromised enough to let this happen, then this should be the LEAST of your concerns ;-) I would personally like to see this configurable and not enabled by default, as it's not really standard practice on any distro currently and not everyone would like it. -- would be nice to add ~/bin to the default PATH https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/64064 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for gdm in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 80853] Nautilus unmount progress dialog should show up for writable DVD+RW/DVD-RAM media
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus I'm guessing due to the fix for bug #34274, unmount dialogs on CD/DVD media were suppressed. However, DVD+RW and DVD-RAM are both random-access devices, and it is becoming a more common use case to format those media with either udf via udftools or vfat or ext2 and use them as general-purpose rewritable media. In these cases, ejecting the medium from Nautilus or the panel icon does not trigger an unmount progress dialog, but instead data is being written in the background. This isn't too bad as far as data loss is concerned, because the CD tray is still locked before all the writing is complete, but is unpleasant from the UI standpoint of why is my DVD+RW eject taking 5 minutes? [Bug 35229] Re: [Bug 35229] Re: totem-xine crash on logo (workaround inside)
I'm not saying that it requires a backport of an unstable version; I'm just saying that if by chance using dapper-updates to backport that patch does not work, we can now accomplish the same task via the dapper-backports manual upload mechanism. Just another failover for this pesky bug :) On 7/13/06, Sebastien Bacher [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: that's what that bug is about, patching for the logo issue, why do you think it requires a backport or an unstable version rather than an easy patch? -- totem-xine crash on logo (workaround inside) https://launchpad.net/bugs/35229 -- totem-xine crash on logo (workaround inside) https://launchpad.net/bugs/35229 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Yes, in general it is, but now we have the infrastructure to make exceptions to that when necessary. anyway it'll be fixed with dapper-updates so no need of a backport task Alright, glad to hear that. I'll reject the Backports bug then.
