[Bug 1861991] Re: upgraded to focal yesterday, I've got no control panel, my theme is weird, and alt-tab isn't working

2020-02-05 Thread John Lenton
After enabling proposed, pulling in mesa from there, and installing
ubuntu-dekstop^, things are a lot closer to what I expected, thank you!

Of the three things I started with, only alt-tab wasn't fixed by the
above.

[Bug 1861991] Re: upgraded to focal yesterday, I've got no control panel, my theme is weird, and alt-tab isn't working

2020-02-05 Thread John Lenton
> It seems you installed 16.04 originally, but were you coming from
18.04 this time?

I bought the laptop with 16.04, I upgraded to 18.04 and now focal, yes.

> - What's the output of
> $ dpkg -l | grep gnome-control-center ?

~$ dpkg -l | grep gnome-control-center
ii  gnome-control-center-data  1:3.34.1-1ubuntu3
   all configuration applets for GNOME - data files

> also how did you upgrade? using the dist-upgrader or editing
sources/using apt?

the dist-upgrader refused to upgrade, bailing out with something about a
pre-release (sorry I didn't copy the message), so I edited
/etc/apt/sources.list (all other sources were disabled by the upgrade to
1804 and I didn't re-enable them)

I'll attach the requested bits before trying the 'apt install'.

[Bug 1768794] Re: Snap branches all show with same name

OTOH what the client should be doing is looking at 'tracks' to get the
order of the channels, and then using that to look up each track in the
map; this would've avoided the issue (but not the info leak which is
still a bug)

[Bug 1661590] Re: GNOME Software only supports running one application from a snap

2017-02-10 Thread John Lenton
I should point out that there isn't a clear 1:1 mapping between desktop
files and apps, and that some of the things mentioned here would impose
this.

FWIW IMHO if gnome software needs to choose one app from a snap to run
because of its own limitations it should choose the default app, the one
that has the same name as the snap.

[Bug 1588266] Re: Almost no info about Krita snap in Ubuntu Software

2016-06-02 Thread John Lenton
Actually it seems the icon code works as expected, just that all the
snaps I looked at to check haven't yet updated to the 16-series way of
doing it.

The icon for a snap goes in meta/gui/icon.*, in which case it gets
picked up automatically:

http snapd:///v2/snaps/http
HTTP/1.1 200 OK
Content-Length: 334
Content-Type: application/json
Date: Thu, 02 Jun 2016 14:22:25 GMT

{
"result": {
"description": "",
"developer": "",
"icon": "/v2/icons/http/icon",
"id": "",
"install-date": "2016-06-02T15:15:14+01:00",
"installed-size": 0,
"name": "http",
"resource": "/v2/snaps/http",
"revision": 11,
"status": "active",

"type": "app",
"version": "4.6692016091"
},
"status": "OK",
"status-code": 200,
"type": "sync"
}

(that one is sideloaded, because the one in the store has it in the
wrong place still).

[Bug 408870] [NEW] user switch applet is crippled

2009-08-04 Thread John Lenton
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

The user switch applet (gdm-user-switch-applet according to ps) only
lists lock screen, switch user and quit... actions (and quit...
pops up a window listing only log out and switch user). In Jaunty
there was a list of users, and suspend/reboot/shut down, which I rather
liked. The ability to suspend, reboot, and shut down my notebook was
quite nice. Also, I'd configured it to use up a lot less space on the
bar, and the option is now gone; it now shows my full name, which is
information I already know.

[Bug 408873] [NEW] gnome-screensaver no longer locks the screen

2009-08-04 Thread John Lenton
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver

The screensaver no longer locks my screen automatically. If I select lock
screen from the user switcher applet it does lock, but it never kicks in on
its own. I have configured it so it locks after a relatively short period of
time, and it worked in Jaunty, but has broken in the upgrade to Karmic.
This is rather important for me, because I have a couple of very inquisitive
4-year-olds...
