[Bug 2011806] Re: [lunar] Snaps don't launch due to cgroup issue

2024-09-15 Thread Jonas Gamao
FYi, I'm using Tuxedo OS (22.04), and I purged my Kubuntu 23.10.

Haven't ran into this problem since, and my only 24.04 system is
Pop!_OS, and no issues there for me.

Something must've gotten screwed up, and was fixed with clean install, I
think.

Wish the team would take priority in solving this, or at the very least
have some way to create custom subvolumes.

I dunno, it’s just tedious when I had to fix mine.

[Bug 1968518] Re: FFe: Backport new RDP settings

2022-04-11 Thread Jonas Ådahl
Some more upstream reasoning for switching from VNC to RDP:

Some releases ago an RDP backend was added to gnome-remote-desktop,
using the FreeRDP's RDP implementation, while the VNC backend uses the
LibVNCServer project's implementation. Over time, the RDP backend
significantly surpassed the abilities of the VNC backend, both in terms
of features and performance, and we had contemplated switching the
default backend in the past already. It's also worth noting that the RDP
protocol doesn't have awkward limitations on password length in the
commonly used authentication mechanism. Also, from an "outsiders" point
of view, FreeRDP feels like a much more active project than
LibVNCServer, and RDP is simply a more capable protocol.

A side note about security of the VNC backend: the original intention
with the VNC backend was to more or less mimic the functionality of
vino, which had an out-dated fork of LibVNCServer bundled with it.
Having a fork of a library that tends to get its fair share of CVE's
didn't feel like a good idea, so the upstream library was used directly.
However, to get the same level of encryption (anon-tls), LibVNCServer
still needed to be patched. Patches were originally contributed in 2018,
but has not landed yet, thus to get anon-tls encryption, distributions
needs downstream patching. With the RDP backend, we both moved away from
non-verifiable anon-tls as well as downstream patching.

One thing that has stopped us from switching the backend in the past has
been the need to re-design the settings dialog. It had been planned to
change the design of said dialog for some time already, but it was a
non-trivial task, since it involved more complicated steps, such as TLS
key/cert generation, management and verification. For GNOME 42, however,
we managed to both get designs as well as implement them in Settings,
thus it made us feel like it was a good opportunity to make the switch.

Originally we intended to have a "blue bar" with a note about the VNC
backend being enabled, with the option of disabling it. This blue bar
was disabled, after dropping the plan to try to automatically enable the
VNC backend on upgrade. The primary reason for dropping this was that
any risk of enabling the VNC backend by accident was too big of a risk,
given the security implications of unknowingly running a VNC remote
desktop server. It was also discussed whether it should be possible to
configure the VNC backend as well as the RDP backend, but the design
team decided against it; instead we added the command line utility
'grdctl' that allows configuration the VNC backend.

Re: [Bug 1843295] Re: Desktop icons missing when join displays

2019-11-15 Thread Jonas Storm Nikolajsen
Hey Sebastien.

I can't create a bug report of the issue. But I have figured out what
happens when I add the second monitor as I have more icons on the desktop.

My laptop is running in a resolution of 1920 x 1080 and my second
monitor runs at 4096 x 2160 (4k). When I connect the monitor my icons
"disappears".

But I have figured out. That if right click "Organize desktop by name"
then some of the icons reappears on my laptop screen (1920 x 1080). If I
then select all by "CTRL + A" and then drag them down the rest of the
icons appears.

I have to do this each time a connect my laptop to my docking station.

I have included a pictures to hopeful in-enlighten the problem. It is
taken after I have organize desktop by name.

In that case I would actually suggest to remote de_BE from the default locale

[Bug 1164016] Re: restore type-ahead find

2018-09-13 Thread Jan-Jonas Sämann
This stupid behavior isn't only inconvinient,

-> this really BREAKS FUNCTIONALITY if you work on network resources.

Especially in Germany where possible internet speeds in many locations
do not exeed well known dialup connection speeds.

What happens then is a complete lockup on nautilus while the filelists
are queried again from the remote site. This usually takes minutes to
complete.

* The bug don't occur on the laptop monitor, only external monitor
connected with HDMI cable.

* If the Gnome Terminal Profile - "Use transparency from system theme"
is disabled the flickering don't occur.

* Actually not related to Chrome, could be reproduced with Geany
(editor).

To me this solves the issue, so could be closed if the deselection of
"Use transparency from system theme" don't have any significant side-
effects.

[Bug 1726262] [NEW] 17.10 - flickering overlay patterns in gnome-terminal

2017-10-22 Thread Jonas Bojesen
Public bug reported:

Clean install of Ubuntu 17.10.

For gnome-terminal select color-scheme "black on light yellow".

Overlay partly with e.g. Chrome (Browser) or Geany (editor). Then the
border shadow of the e.g. Geany produces flickering extended shadows in
the gnome-terminal. Foto with the extended shadows is attached.

This bug was introduced with 17.10. This flickering didn't appear in
17.04, 16.10, 16.04...

Working as a developer with several open terminal windows on the
desktop, this produces a disturbing desktop environment and mitigated by
covering not used terminal windows complete with other apps.

Haven't reproduced with other apps than gnome-terminal.

Lenovo Thinkpad e330, cpu : Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3210M CPU @ 2.50GHz

[Bug 1685748] Re: "Dim screen when inactive" doesn't work in Gnome X session, screen dims even when option is set to "OFF"

2017-05-28 Thread Jonas Thiem
Did I file this bug in the correct component/project?

This is more than a cosmetic issue because when reading documents in the
train or in other places where no AC power is available, it requires me
to move the mouse all the time or read with reduced screen brightness..
(which again on the train might be problematic because of sunlight)

[Bug 1694174] [NEW] Audio stops when screen is locked

2017-05-28 Thread Jonas Thiem
Public bug reported:

When playing music with totem, the audio instantly stops when screen is
locked (without the user actually logging out, just a regular lock
screen). mplayer on the other hand doesn't suffer from this problem
ontinues playing just fine.

This is very problematic when running Linux on portable handhelds (do
you ever not lock your phone when listening to music on the run with the
phone in your pocket?) and I can't see any immediate benefit for this
behavior on a regular PC either, so I suggest it is changed/fixed.

[Bug 1637116] [NEW] all journalctl logs their "Log begin" decrease

2016-10-27 Thread Jonas Libbrecht
Public bug reported:

Every night we setup 3 ubuntu 16.04 environments and we test our software on it.
This morning something weird caught my eye while debugging our software.

On 1 of the 3 machines I tried to search logging of the day before but I
could not find any.

When I first looked at a journalctl unit log of process `x` (for example), I
saw the logs started at:
`-- Logs begin at Thu 2016-10-27 05:18:01 CEST, end at Thu 2016-10-27 10:22:37
CEST. --`
I found this very weird because the logs should have started around `Wed
2016-10-26 22:00:00 CEST`

After some time I looked again at the journalctl unit log of process `x` but
this time the logs started @:
`-- Logs begin at Thu 2016-10-27 06:04:31 CEST, end at Thu 2016-10-27 10:29:31
CEST. --`

I've checked if the nodes were rebooted, ntp was misconfigured or maybe
the disk was full but I could not find anything.

This affects the whole system, so its not a certain process in
particular.

Seems it's started automatically like this:

/usr/bin/gnome-keyring-daemon --daemonize --login

Running it like this fixes it:

/usr/bin/gnome-keyring-daemon --start --foreground

Faulty assumptions made for startup script?

[Bug 1583239] [NEW] System logout after opening specific png file

2016-05-18 Thread Jonas Toth
Public bug reported:

Hello,

i try to visualize a callgraph for a specific programm.
I profile it with gprof, generate a callgraph from it with gprof2dot and then
use dot to create a png from it. (like in the example here
https://github.com/jrfonseca/gprof2dot).

When i now want to open the created png with eog, my system logs out,
immediatly. (i have video, attachment)

I checked the syslog, kern.log and dmesg, doesnt seem to have any
information in it, i have the logs here anyway.

The picture i try to open is in the attachment as well. (It works with
shotwell)

phablet@ubuntu-phablet:~$ gdbus call -y -d org.freedesktop.Accounts -o
/org/freedesktop/Accounts/User32011 -m
org.freedesktop.Accounts.User.SetInputSources "[{'xkb': 'en'}]"
Error: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.Accounts.Error.PermissionDenied:
Authentication is required
(According to introspection data, you need to pass 'aa{ss}')

What should happen:
Not sure if this is a regression or what? We call this from System Settings—do
we have to change it?

[Bug 1543617] [NEW] InputSources should have an explicit default

2016-02-09 Thread Jonas G. Drange
Public bug reported:

The AccountsService package rolls the org.freedesktop.Accounts.User.xml
schema, which comes with a default, empty InputSources. Mir defaults to
“en”.

Maybe we should set this value to “en” so that there's a canonical way
of figuring out what InputSource to use. Additionally, if a vendor wants
“no” to be the default, it could make sense to just override this schema
default value.

[Bug 1179659] [NEW] Gnome Control Center Crashes when attempring to open "Details"

2013-05-13 Thread Jonas De Moor
Public bug reported:

On Ubuntu 13.10, when I search for "Details " in the dash, I see the
mouse cursor (meaning it's loading something). But then gnome-control-
panel crashes and I get "Ubuntu 13.10 has encountered an internal
error".

This also happens when I go to System Settings from the launcher and
then to "Details".

NOTE: I'm running 13.10 in a virtual machine on Ubuntu 12.04.

Bug Details

1) Ubuntu version: Ubuntu 13.10 x64
2) Package version: gnome-control-center 1:3.6.3-0ubuntu25
3) Expectation: I expected that the Details section of the Control Panel would
open.
4) Reality: Nothing happened; not even a window opened. I only get an error
(mentioned above).

Virtual Machine Details

- Dedicated four CPU Cores (CPU: AMD FX-8150 8 core CPU @ 3.6 GHz) to OS.
- Dedicated 5 GB RAM to OS.
- Dedicated 128 MB Video Memory (Maximum) to OS.

back to gnome-settings-daemon using 100% CPU.

2012-08-14 Thread jonas
After turning on "Control pointer using they keypad" in Universal access
I can trigger the bug 100% of the time by using the keypad to control
the mouse when browsing the web with Google Chrome. Editing /usr/lib

in #85 seems to fix the issue (a couple of hours without an issue).
Using Ubuntu 12.04 and connected with vnc to the machine where I have

[Bug 1019622] [NEW] Evolution with mapi over vpn fails to reconnect

2012-06-30 Thread Jonas Petersson
Public bug reported:

Sadly, I'm currently forced to fetch mail from an Exchange server via a Cisco
tunnel.
Luckily, Evolution with mapi combined with vpnc mostly works.
However, it seems that I'm forced to restart Evolution every time the tunnel
disconnects (which is more often than I had hoped).
I understand that there are issues in vpnc that may cause this to happen more
frequently than it should, but it would still be great if Evolution (or the
mapi plug) could handle this in a better way.

[Bug 998389] [NEW] Brasero crashes on clicking the close window control while burning

2012-05-12 Thread Jonas Schwabe
Public bug reported:

I am sorry I can't attach an apport bug report as apport simply does something
wired while reporting this (simply disappears but does not crash). I will look
into this, too.
I will therefore attach valgrind output and the unformated crash file. But I
think this will likely be reproducible for everyone as it does not only happen
while burning but also while creating iso files.
Steps to do:
Create a new data disc with brasero, if you want to try this with iso files put
some big files onto the disc as you need a few seconds to reproduce the bug.
Start the burning/writing process and simply click on the close button (X) in
the window control.
Program crashes and if you really burn something the disc braseero was burning
won't stop spinning. I had to use "cdrecord -abort" to eject it as eject just
shows:
eject: Kann nicht auswerfen! Letzter Fehler: Unpassender IOCTL (I/O-Control)
für das Gerät
(eject: Eject failed! Last error: Wrong IOCTL for this device)

What I was expecting:
Either a confirmation to cancel the burn process or a simple minimization to
the notification area.

Valgrind output attached.

[Bug 855940] Re: seahorse crashed with SIGSEGV in g_simple_async_result_complete()

2012-03-29 Thread Jonas Schwabe
I can reproduce this by starting the keyserver sync while having network
connection issues (e.g. no working DNS or general connection issues).
When an error message appears telling there are network problems dismiss
it and cancel the sync process.

Try selecting multiple keys to sync as dismissing the error messages for
one key will also close the sync window normally.
