[Bug 1811808] Re: Tearing and/or flickering when using i3wm

2019-01-22 Thread Josh Holland
Ok, thanks; I guess I'll live with the tearing for now, then. I agree
that it seems a bit pointless/unlikely to spend time fixing this given
most people won't run into it now that compositors are so common.

Maybe I'll get around to configuring one at some point :)

[Bug 1811808] Re: Tearing and/or flickering when using Intel graphics

2019-01-21 Thread Josh Holland
> Does using a Wayland session avoid the bug?

Yes, I see no tearing in Totem (or Chrome) when using Wayland. (Note:
after uninstalling the Nvidia drivers (`apt purge nvidia-driver-410 &&
apt autoremove --purge`), I have to boot with `nouveau.modeset=0`,
otherwise boot hangs at Plymouth after entering my disk encryption
password.)

In Wayland, xrandr prints the following:

$ xrandr
Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1920 x 1080, maximum 8192 x 8192
XWAYLAND0 connected 1920x1080+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
340mm x 190mm
   1920x1080 59.96*+

> Also, what shell are you using?

If you mean shell-as-in-graphical, and I understand correctly what that
means, then I'm using i3wm. If you mean shell-as-in-CLI, then bash.

[Bug 1811808] Re: Tearing and/or flickering when using Intel graphics

2019-01-18 Thread Josh Holland
I'm using only one monitor (the one built-in to the laptop), at times I
use an external monitor as well, but this problem persists without it
plugged in.

After removing that block (i.e. using the modesetting driver), I get
jagged tearing almost everywhere. Both Chrome and Totem tear very
noticeably, but in slightly different ways (I'll attach some pictures).
However, when Chrome is in fullscreen mode, there's no tearing at all,
but Totem continues to tear when fullscreened.

[Bug 1811808] [NEW] Tearing and/or flickering when using Intel graphics

2019-01-15 Thread Josh Holland
Public bug reported:

When using Intel graphics on my hybrid Nvidia laptop, videos in Totem
have awful tearing/flickering which makes them essentially unwatchable.

With default X settings, I get tearing across the top of the screen (but
I also get very noticeable tearing in other applications); if I enable
TearFree (which eliminates tearing in Chrome), the tearing turns into
jagged black flickers which extend from the top of the screen right down
to near the bottom of the screen on some frames.

The flickers are visible in screenshots, so I have attached one.

Public bug reported:

I was trying to upload some photos to Picasa over a somewhat flaky

useful if Shotwell kept track of which photos had already uploaded so
that I don't end up with duplicates if I just press Upload again.

[Bug 668349] [NEW] Evolution sometimes takes very long to format a message

2010-10-29 Thread Josh Holland
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

For certain emails, it takes a very long time to generate a view for the
preview pane. None of these emails have particularly bizarre
formatting; in fact, I have only noticed it with plain text messages
with no quirks at all as far as I can tell. There seems to be no rhyme
nor reason for the very slow rendering; I just see the Formatting
message... task in the status bar remaining at 0% in the status bar for
anything up to 5 seconds.

OK, I just emptied the Rubbish Bin and a confirmation window popped up

obviously some strings still hiding.

[Bug 644488] [NEW] Annoying unlock keyring popups after login

2010-09-21 Thread Josh Holland
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-keyring

After I log in, I have to enter my password to unlock the default
keyring anything from 2-6 times. I believe it could be something to do
with Network Manager, since I do not get a wireless connection until the
last box has gone away.

[Bug 590094] [NEW] FTBFS on maverick

2010-06-05 Thread Josh Holland
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: bug-buddy

bug-buddy currently does not build from source on maverick [0]. This
appears to be due to the BUG_BUDDY_EDS_CFLAGS variable not substituting
the correct compiler include flags, even though executing 'pkg-config
--cflags libebook-1.2 = 1.3.0' (as should be being performed in the
build) does indeed seem to provide the necessary flags.

[Bug 577924] Re: Difficult to find previous Facebook chat conversations

2010-05-16 Thread Josh Holland
Omer,

I'm not sure if it is an invalid bug. Several of my friends already have
Facebook usernames, and they are still displayed with unintelligible
entries. Also, Empathy shows their names correctly in the contact list,
so it must be possible to get their names from somewhere. If there is a
special account type for Facebook, then it should present itself better.

[Bug 577924] [NEW] Difficult to find previous Facebook chat conversations

2010-05-09 Thread Josh Holland
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

Steps to reproduce:

1. Go to Contact List (with Facebook Chat set up)
2. Press F3 or go to View - Previous Conversations
3. Switch to the Conversation tab
4. Choose the Facebook account from the combo box
5. Struggle to pick a particular content from the list of
u12345678...@chat.facebook.com entries

It should be possible to show the contact name, instead of this
confusing identification string.

[Bug 533422] Re: Strange behaviour with maximised Evolution

2010-04-14 Thread Josh Holland
Having just tried out Banshee, which experiences the same problem, I'm
of the opinion that this is due to the Evolution window being too tall
to fit on the screen. So it looks like there should be a bug against the
window manager for the jumpiness, and against Banshee for being too
tall. (seems to have stopped doing it with Evo now)

[Bug 533422] [NEW] Strange behaviour with maximised Evolution

2010-03-06 Thread Josh Holland
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

When maximised, the Evolution application takes up more than the visible
screen size, and jumps between either the top being visible and the
bottom being visible. This is very annoying, and makes it impossible to
use maximised. This is on a netbook screen (running stock Ubuntu Desktop
though), and using it non-maximised is hard as the screen is quite
small.

[Bug 444744] [NEW] Evolution should allow addition of unknown PGP keys

2009-10-06 Thread Josh Holland
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

It would be fairly simple to implement a simple add this key to PGP
keyring when a message is signed by a key not in the keyring. This
would allow a user to simply expand their keyring, perhaps with a brief
note about unverified keys and the web of trust.

[Bug 441444] Re: Rhythmbox request txt/html plugin not found usng Last.fm

2009-10-03 Thread Josh Holland
This seems to happen with me when I select a song previously played. It
may be something to do with the way that last.fm serves content as a
radio thing with no control about going back, so this may be just a case
of wallpapering over it.

[Bug 393391] [NEW] Rhythmbox does not show HTML podcast information

2009-06-29 Thread Josh Holland
Public bug reported:

The three podcasts that I have listed in an RSS feed
(http://www.lugradio.org/episodes-full.ogg.rss,
http://feeds.feedburner.com/UbuntuUkPodcastOgg-high?format=xml, and
http://feeds.feedburner.com/hashlugradio-ogg) all provide the episode
information in HTML format. When I choose Properties on the right-
click menu for an episode, I see the raw HTML source of the description.
In an ideal world this would be rendered properly; at the moment it is
compressed into one line with all the tags and is difficult to read.

[Bug 299395] Re: rhythmbox doesn't go directly to track-listing when autostarted by inserting an audio cd

2009-01-08 Thread Josh Holland
There is a similar issue with opening music files from nautilus in
rhythmbox. If I double-click an mp3 file, my library starts playing.
This is not what a user (or I) want.

Had same problem. Ran out of HD space, but rm ../menus fixed it.
