[Bug 452049] Re: Gnome Places contains filesystems mounted via bind
i have just linked the upstream bug and changed the package to glib2.0 as this is not directly a nautilus bug (also nautilus might need to be changed too, once this is fixed upstream). ** Also affects: nautilus via https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=625552 Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown ** Package changed: nautilus (Ubuntu) = glib2.0 (Ubuntu) -- Gnome Places contains filesystems mounted via bind https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/452049 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to glib2.0 in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 452049] Re: Gnome Places contains filesystems mounted via bind
Today I have had some time to investigate this problem. It seems the bug originates from glib and is not actually a bug in nautilus, the reason is that mount points that are mounted with the bind option dont the a GMount mount point assigned from glib. I have explained the behaviour here: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=625552 If g_volume_get_mount() would return a GMount pointer for the mount point then nautilus would display the file as mounted and not try to mount it again. Unfortunately there seems to be no way to check the mount options of a given mount point in glib. ** Bug watch added: GNOME Bug Tracker #625552 https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=625552 -- Gnome Places contains filesystems mounted via bind https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/452049 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 452049] Re: Gnome Places contains filesystems mounted via bind
I have marked the bug as confirmed since I was able to reproduce it on three different computers. ** Description changed: - Binary package hint: mountall + Binary package hint: nautilus What happens: - 1. In the Gnome panel I click on Places and I see two folders that I have mounted in fstab with - bind /.../a to /.../b - bind /.../a to /.../c - 2. When I click either of these folders I get the following error (with different destination path): - Error - Unable to mount MyDocuments - mount: according to mtab, /media/E/MyDocuments is already mounted on /home/username/MyDocuments + 1. mount a folder a to point b with the -bind option in /etc/fstab, for example: + /media/data /home/username/MyDocuments none bind, user=username, group=username 0 0 + 2. reboot and then open nautilus + 3. nautilus will show the new mount point in the places sidebar but it will give you an error if you click on the mount point: + Unable to mount MyDocuments + mount: according to mtab, /media/data is already mounted on /home/username/MyDocuments mount failed What should happen: - Since these binds are specified in fstab it should not be necessary to mount them at all since they get mounted automatically at boot time. Therefore these entries are unneccessary in the Places menu and should be removed. + 1. nautilus should not show these binded folders since they are well accessible through the filesystem + 2. if the mounted folder (e.g. /mount/data) is a block device then it will appear in the places sidebar anyway and thus it is not necessary to show the mount point again + 3. if the mounted folder is a normal folder from an existing file system then its accessible both from the original location and the newly binded location, thus the is no need to show it in places again + 4. this is quite annoying + + Additional Information: + This bug persists in Lucid ProblemType: Bug Architecture: amd64 Date: Thu Oct 15 12:04:11 2009 - DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.10 - Package: mountall 0.2.2 - ProcEnviron: - PATH=(custom, no user) - LANG=en_US.UTF-8 - SHELL=/bin/bash - ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.31-14.46-generic - SourcePackage: mountall - Uname: Linux 2.6.31-14-generic x86_64 + DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.04 + Package: nautilus 2.30 ** Changed in: nautilus (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Confirmed -- Gnome Places contains filesystems mounted via bind https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/452049 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 452049] Re: Gnome Places contains filesystems mounted via bind
the mounting seems to be done in libnautilus-private/nautilus-file-operations.c, in the function nautilus_file_operations_mount_volume_full Maybe it would help to check if the volume is actually mountable or whether it is mounted with the bind option. I have no experience with compiling nautilus but maybe someone can take a look at this function? Also g_volume_can_mount might be useful? [Bug 390001] Re: Gnome visual effects not retained after reboot
This bug is also present on my machine. It is similar to those reported in: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/413385 and https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-meta/+bug/269292 I found a hint in the gnome-control-center-2.28.1/debian/patches/95_desktop-effects-integration.patch Line: 424 + session_file = g_build_filename (g_get_home_dir (), +.gnome2, +session, +NULL); According to someone in the #ubuntu channel this file (~/.gnome2/session) is obsolete. It is also definitely not present on my system as are several other files mentioned in man gnome-session Instead I find the session files in ~/.config/gnome-session/saved-session Im not sure if that is related to the problem but it might be worth to have a look. In fact I am wondering anyway why the file it deleted anyway since there seems to be no further use in the program anyway nor it is rewritten later. -- Gnome visual effects not retained after reboot https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/390001 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 344070] [NEW] nautilus mount dialog
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus Every time i resume from suspend and i have an sd card inserted into my notebook the nautilus mount dialoge will pop up (the one that gives the choice about which action to take, e.g. start f-spot or just open a folder). What should happen instead: 1. Nautilus should remember if an sd card was inserted before suspend and if there is still and sd card in the card reader after resume it should not spawn the dialoge again. 2. (optional) Maybe it should read out some unique id of the card (if possible) to determine if the card is the same one that was inserted before suspend.
