[Bug 2013042] Re: Lock screen wallpaper vanishes (goes black) if a second monitor is plugged in/out
Confirmed in Ubuntu 23.04. The issue happens on my external monitor (2560x1440@60Hz) set as primary monitor and located above the laptop's internal FullHD display (both physically and virtually). Background with no elements on it is only displayed on my secondary monitor (laptop screen when external monitor is plugged in) when lock screen is displayed. If I unplug the external monitor, lock screen is correctly displayed on my internal laptop screen, together with the background. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2013042 Title: Lock screen wallpaper vanishes (goes black) if a second monitor is plugged in/out To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-shell/+bug/2013042/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 348522] Re: gvfsd-gphoto2 memory leak
I have a Valgrind log using a wrapper for /usr/lib/gvfs/gvfsd-gphoto2 as Sebastien adviced. However, I have not managed to copy more than a 19MB (RAW photo file), thus I am not sure if it will help. All bigger files (videos) ended up with time out error as the Valgrind memchecks take probably too long (Nautilus seems to require getting a response within 30 seconds after making a copy request). Test run on Ubuntu 12.10 where the memory problem persists - I have tried coppying a 1.7GB video file using gphoto2 protocol in Nautilus (without Valgrind wrapper) and it begun consuming memory right after entering the directory with the video file (for obtaining a preview) - leaving the directory didn't stop raising memory usage - it raised somewhere to 5GB of RAM (used only by gvfsd-gphoto2) after what I closed the Nautilus window - this unallocated all the 5GB of memory. After entering the directory again, there was the video file with default video icon showing no video preview. After pasting the video file into a local directory gvfsd-gphoto2 begun consuming memory again but the Nautilus dialog showed 0 bytes copied. Then after 30 seconds the copy dialog has been closed showing the time out error as with Valgrind (this is new behavior, it didn't happen at least with Oneiric where I was able to copy the file if I had enough memory - so now, I'm NOT ABLE TO COPY A BIG FILE FROM A CAMERA AT ALL). After closing the error window stopping the copy operation, however, gvfsd-gphoto2 continued allocating memory up to the 1.7GB - then all the memory has been freed immediately. Please ask if you need another information, I hope to get this very old issue finally fixed - for now, I'm marking it confirmed. Thank you in advance. ** Attachment added: "Valgrind log for a 19MB file copying" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gvfs/+bug/348522/+attachment/3406322/+files/valgrind.log ** Changed in: gvfs (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/348522 Title: gvfsd-gphoto2 memory leak To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gvfs/+bug/348522/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 673151] Re: gvfsd-gphoto2 when downloading a file from camera loads entire file into memory first, doesn't write it onto hdd simultaneously
Thank you for your response. I can confirm that this is still an issue with Ubuntu 11.04 using gvfs version 1.8.0-0ubuntu2 from the natty repository. It is also reproducible on my Acer Aspire 8943G laptop which it slows down quickly after all RAM is used although CPU (4 threads) is idle making that a major usability issue for me (and I believe that not only for me). I have tried it with one 3GB video file on both computers with exactly the same result. During the copying, gvfsd-gphoto2 loaded the video file into system memory by filling the RAM first, then writing to swap, after it has been whole loaded in system memory, it started to writing it onto HDD (this was the first moment after about 3 minutes of loading it into memory first when the status bar in the "Copying" window moved from 0B somewhere rightwards). All the memory used during the copying has been freed up only after it had been completely written onto HDD. According to system monitor, the gvfsd-gphoto2 listed in the Processes tab used less and less memory with the time as it was being written onto HDD, however, the "History of use of memory and swap space" graph in Sources tab didn't show any difference and all the memory used (3GB) was in fact freed short after the end of the copy operation. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gvfs in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/673151 Title: gvfsd-gphoto2 when downloading a file from camera loads entire file into memory first, doesn't write it onto hdd simultaneously To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gvfs/+bug/673151/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 673140] Re: gvfsd-gphoto2 loads previews for all files regardless of settings in Nautilus for previewed file size
Sorry for my mistake with the package name - I have gvfs version 1.8.0-0ubuntu2 from natty repository installed. I also have to mention that Nautilus respects the settings for video files - they are whole loaded into system memory by gvfsd-gphoto2 (uselessly) after what the memory is freed up with the only result that Nautilus shows the default video icon (showing a cine-film) instead of the file icon with clock signalizing that the preview is being loaded, respecting the 100MB file limit for previews (!!). Trying that with a 3GB video file in my camera connected through USB, gvfsd-gphoto2 crashed (?) after it loaded the video file into memory for the purpose of image preview - I think so, because it was no longer listed in the process list in system-monitor and the camera became unmounted in Nautilus. Trying it with the same video stored already on my HDD, the default video icon was displayed immediately without any use of system memory. When I changed the file preview limit in Nautilus from 100MB to 4GB, preview for the video file became available immediately (I only had to move it to another folder as the preview for the original video file in the concrete path was already fixed to be the default video icon - this is probably another issue with Nautilus) and again, without any use of memory - so even loading whole (video) files for the purpose of file preview is useless and should never be done. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gvfs in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/673140 Title: gvfsd-gphoto2 loads previews for all files regardless of settings in Nautilus for previewed file size To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/nautilus/+bug/673140/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 673146] Re: gvfsd-gphoto2 seems to not free up memory correctly after load
Thank you for your response. I am no more able to reproduce this issue with Ubuntu 11.04 and latest packages from natty-updates repository as it turned out that after loading an image preview, it really does free the used memory up. However, it keeps loading the last preview that it already started loading even if the folder in Nautilus is no more opened or even if the Nautilus window is already closed (see Bug #673137). After the last preview is loaded, it frees up memory correctly and no more preview loading is initialized, however, the last, already initialized, one doesn't stop loading after I leave the folder. The same thing happens with copying a file from the camera - gvfsd-gphoto2 loads it entire into memory first, writes it into HDD once it is whole loaded in system memory and ONLY AFTER it writes whole file onto HDD it frees all the memory used (see Bug #673151). Thanks for the response. I have tried that with Ubuntu 11.04 (gvfsd-gphoto2 is no longer in the repository nor installed?) and the problem persists. It turned out that not only previews of image/video files stored in my camera kept loading although size of those files is more than the limit selected in Nautilus but that this problem concerns also local files. I was not able to find any file on my HDD without a preview loaded immediately (when I set the limit to 10MB in Nautilus) , neither image nor video. The only files that stood without preview were TIFFs. Maybe this is a wider problem of Nautilus or the file preview isn't even that hard to obtain? [Bug 673137] Re: gvfsd-gphoto2 file previews in Nautilus keep loading despite folder is closed
This bug is still present in Ubuntu 11.04 with gvfs version 1.8.0-0ubuntu2. Could anyone from the team PLEASE take a look at it as this is over a half of year that I have discovered this bug and the state of it hasn't been changed since then? As a photographer who is also recording HD videos I am working with really big files very often, although my computer maybe isn't a super- quick rocket and it is truly VERY embarrassing when your computer is horribly slowed down for 10-20 minutes just by loading previews of video files (that are in fact WHOLE loaded into memory, otherwise this couldn't ever happen) as big as 3GB or more, and furthermore, from a dictionary that you have ALREADY CLOSED. At first, it fills up all RAM available (2GB) and after that, it eats additional 5GB from the swap! Just for the purpose of a stupid file preview in Nautilus, without copying anything. No, do not say to me that this is normal behaviour or an unimportant bug, please. Just for the record, the time this bug has been filled, I have also filled another 3 bug reports - with nearly the same result, nobody bothered to take a look at it - that I think are bundled together. Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gvfs gvfsd-gphoto2 loads entire file into memory by first when downloading it from camera and flushes it onto hdd once it is whole in memory unlike gphoto2 that writes onto hdd simultaneously with loading the file from camera. When downloading a video from my Canon EOS 500D camera, gvfsd-gphoto2 loads it whole into memory by first filling hundreds of MBs or even more of memory (once RAM is full it keeps writing into swap) and writes it onto hdd only when it is entire read in memory.
