[Bug 2011350] Re: ERROR:../src/nautilus-gtk4-helpers.c:116:gtk_widget_get_first_child: assertion failed: (GTK_IS_CONTAINER (widget))

2023-06-02 Thread Marcus Aurelius
My Ubuntu machine with Intel + Nvidia graphics with automatic session
start randomly logs into X11 or Wayland (no idea why) and it looks like
this Nautilus bug happens less often (if at all) on Wayland. Maybe it's
X11-specific?

[Bug 2011350] Re: ERROR:../src/nautilus-gtk4-helpers.c:116:gtk_widget_get_first_child: assertion failed: (GTK_IS_CONTAINER (widget))

2023-05-03 Thread Marcus Aurelius
Steps to reproduce:

(on my machine they work everytime but I couldn't reproduce on a virtual
machine)

1. Open the file browser (Nautilus) from the dock.
2. Shift+click the same icon on the dock to open another window.
3. Ctrl+T to open a new tab in one of the Nautilus windows.
4. Click on the previous tab, the one that was selected before pressing Ctrl+T.
5. Close the window.

Result:

Both Nautilus windows closed, indicating a crash.

Expected:

Just one window closed, the other Nautilus window should remain.

Oh interesting. Looks like you don’t even have the gnome-3-34-1804 snap
installed. Could you give the output of

$ snap list

If you don’t see that snap in the list try:

$ sudo snap install gnome-3-34-1804

And see if that fixes your issue.

[Bug 968213] Re: Too many icons in Gnome Shell Activities Overview require ellipses

2020-06-11 Thread Marcus Aurelius
So another LTS got released with this issue... :-(

If upstream Gnome is dragging its feet to solve this, would I be asking
too much if I suggested Ubuntu to bundle the "Applications Overview
Tooltip" in the distro? At least users won't have to mess with browser
extensions. That looks like a pretty obvious solution to me.

impossible to do as one can do in 19.10 where you could say, do not show
trash can on desktop etc...

[Bug 1867462] Re: Desktop icons extension does not work properly

2020-03-14 Thread Marcus Grenängen
Worth nothing, as a workaround I issued `dpkg -r --force-depends gnome-
shell-extension-desktop-icons' followed by 'apt-mark hold gnome-shell-
extension-desktop-icons` to be able to get rid of the extension. Once
done, logging out and back in will give you a clean desktop with no
icons.

[Bug 1867462] [NEW] Desktop icons extension does not work properly

2020-03-14 Thread Marcus Grenängen
Public bug reported:

First, I am unable to find any way of disabling/hiding desktop icons in
Gnome settings. Is this intended behavior?

Second, when using Gnome tweaks, there is currently no way of
disabling/hiding desktop icons via the extension, clicking the settings
button for it renders no result and disabling it will not hide desktop
icons.

Agreed, this does seem to be somewhat Ubuntu (and indeed perhaps Mutter)
related, and not specific to LibreOffice.

I tried the exact same version of LibreOffice
(libreoffice-6.3.3.2-snap1) on Debian Buster and Ubuntu 19.10, and found
that while reproducible on Ubuntu, it is not on Debian (see attached
screencasts).

[Bug 1815121] Re: Nautilus chashes on login

2019-02-08 Thread Marcus Ahlberg
I removed the workspace-grid directory and now it works fine. Thanks for the
insights!
I then reinstalled workspace-grid via software center and it still works. There
are some differences between the old and the new directory so it appears to be
a newer release.

It seems that the extension was installed once and then not maintained
by software update. The fault seems to be not in gnome or the extension
but in the way extensions are handled by Ubuntu. They should be kept up
to date or disabled when function cannot be guaranteed. Should I report
another issue for this somewhere or is it by design?

2019-02-07 Thread Marcus Ahlberg
Here's a link to the nautilus dump:
https://errors.ubuntu.com/oops/1aa7b5fc-2b0c-11e9-8fa5-fa163e6cac46

I'm currently running a Unity desktop without seeing any crashes as I
cannot log in to the default Gnome desktop.

[Bug 1805839] [NEW] Gnome shell crash with dual monitor set up on 18.10

2018-11-29 Thread Marcus Bauer
Public bug reported:

Since update to 18.10 git gui crashes on closing a dialog when there is
a dual monitor set up.

Steps to reproduce:

 - open git gui and choose i.e. fetch from origin
 - close the dialog window -> crash of gnome shell

Workaround:

 - change display set up to single monitor prior to closing the dialog
window

Tongue in cheek:

 - use git on command line instead of git gui

Ubuntu-bug seems not to work, but whoopsie is here:

https://errors.ubuntu.com/oops/ec7cdbf8-f3d5-11e8-9625-fa163e102db1

I haven't yet seen the error with any other UI program, so maybe it is
Tcl/tk that triggers it.

[Bug 1114012] Re: EOG-CRITICAL **: eog_list_store_length: assertion `EOG_IS_LIST_STORE (store)' failed

2018-06-12 Thread Marcus Hoyer
This is my first week using Linux (Ubuntu 18.04 LTS) and Python 2.7 and am
already bumping into a problem similar to that reported. In my case I open JPG
files of variable size, but in this case they are no more than 3Mb.
I also create 3 processes to split the execution on a list that can get
very large when the project is finished, I do not believe this is the problem,
because the software runs fine on Windows 7 and Windows 10 and even with the
error message the images are presented.

The following is part of the code:

Error in Python 2.7 executing by IDE PyCharm.

[Bug 887821] Re: Show copy dialog right click launcher entry doesn't work (on nautilus copy)

2014-05-15 Thread Marcus E
I believe this issue still exists today in a fully updated 13.10.

nautilus --version
GNOME nautilus 3.8.2

unity --version
unity 7.1.2

The copy progress window seldom or never appears on my install neither
on the desktop nor in alt-tab super-1. Not on any of the four virtual
desktop spaces either. The right-click show copy window (or whatever it
says on English-language installs) does not do anything. This has on
several occasions made me think the copying was finished so I deleted
the source files and only found out about my misstake after being
greeted with the error while copying dialog window when the file that
is apparently being copied has been removed.

Interestingly enough the side-bar seems to appear and shake the file
manager icon when the copying has finished, not sure how useful that is
on its own though, and I don't know if that notification stays on screen
if I am AFK or just looking away for a moment.

Also copying seems to be very taxing on my computer -(i7 CPU with
samsung 530 SSD) the UI becomes somewhat unresponsive while copying
large files to backup USB-disks. This could possibly affect the main
issue of the progress window not being displayed.

[Bug 1060507] Re: Opaque error message Installing packages by files isn't supported

2013-08-15 Thread Marcus
Had the same unhelpful error message pop up on my near new install of
Ubuntu 13.04, it occurred whenever I tried to copy a CD. I then noticed
at the bottom of the Brasero package description it mentions also
installing the package cdrdao for direct copying of CDs. I installed
cdrdao and cue2toc, and now the error does not appear and I can
successfully copy CDs.

Also note that these packages are not dependancies, recommended or
suggested by the Brasero package, which seems like an oversight in my
Ubuntu newbie opinion.

I'm experiencing the same problem. The problem is apparently not
specific to wireless mice.

Check if camera is attached to USB 3 port. ... if yes, switch it to a
USB 2 port for now and try again.

The logfile shows that the camera does not respond to any commands.

Couldn't we just set this feature to be disabled by default that could

This bug's solution is the cause of this unanswerable question:

I have noticed that RB remembers whether it was minimised to tray when
it closed, and starts in the same state. Some users might find that
confusing, however. My mother does actually, sometimes she opens RB to
listen to her music and she doesn't realise that small white square on
the notification area, so she thinks the program didn't start
  properly.

I think RB should NEVER start minimised to tray, unless it's specified
  through a command option.

[Bug 1071883] [NEW] weather applet prefs crash due to incorrect use of g_settings_get ()

2012-10-26 Thread Marcus Comstedt
Public bug reported:

The function compare_location() in gweather-pref.c contains the
following call:

g_settings_get (pref-priv-applet-lib_settings, default-location,
(ssm(dd)),
default_loc, NULL, NULL);

This format string requires 5 pointers to be provided, but only 3 are
given. Beacuse if this, g_settings_get will use random stack data as
pointers, and corrupt memory causing a crash.

Adding 2 more NULL pointers fixes the problem:

g_settings_get (pref-priv-applet-lib_settings, default-location,
(ssm(dd)),
default_loc, NULL, NULL, NULL, NULL);

Version 3.5.92-0ubuntu1, quantal.
