[Bug 400870] [NEW] unable to login to 9.10
Public bug reported: After upgrade to 9.10 from 9.04 on my Acer Aspire One with netbook remix, I can not log in the normal way. At the gdm greeter menu, I get the following error message regardless which user I try: error initiating conversation with authentication system - general failure. When running 9.04 the system was set-up to log in directly to the sytem (without giving user-id or passwd), but I remember that I had to do some tweak to be able to start the wireless network without giving the password. I don't know if it is relevant, but I attach some of the messages in the /var/log/auth.log Jul 17 22:08:29 AAO gdm-session-worker[2244]: PAM _pam_load_conf_file: unable to open /etc/pam.d/common-pamkeyring Jul 17 22:08:29 AAO gdm-session-worker[2244]: PAM error loading (null) Jul 17 22:08:29 AAO gdm-session-worker[2244]: PAM _pam_init_handlers: error reading /etc/pam.d/gdm Jul 17 22:08:29 AAO gdm-session-worker[2244]: PAM _pam_init_handlers: [Critical error - immediate abort] Jul 17 22:08:29 AAO gdm-session-worker[2244]: PAM error reading PAM configuration file Jul 17 22:08:29 AAO gdm-session-worker[2244]: PAM pam_start: failed to initialize handlers Jul 17 22:08:38 AAO gdm-session-worker[2379]: PAM _pam_load_conf_file: unable to open /etc/pam.d/common-pamkeyring Jul 17 22:08:38 AAO gdm-session-worker[2379]: PAM error loading (null) Jul 17 22:08:38 AAO gdm-session-worker[2379]: PAM _pam_init_handlers: error reading /etc/pam.d/gdm Jul 17 22:08:38 AAO gdm-session-worker[2379]: PAM _pam_init_handlers: [Critical error - immediate abort] Jul 17 22:08:38 AAO gdm-session-worker[2379]: PAM error reading PAM configuration file Jul 17 22:08:38 AAO gdm-session-worker[2379]: PAM pam_start: failed to initialize handlers ** Affects: gdm (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- unable to login to 9.10 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/400870 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gdm in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 267828] Re: switch user does not work
It is reproducable everytime if I lock the screen and then try to switch user from the gray panel of the screen saver. Switch user just does not work. The screen blinks but I am sent back to the black screen with the gray panel. If I try to switch user from from my session using the user switcher up in the right corner I normally get an error message the first time. The second time I try the same it works.
