[Bug 720434] [NEW] Cannot add a Google addressbook to Evolution: invalid query
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution Hello, I am trying to add my GMail address book with all its contacts to Evolution. I've tried a lot of different variations, but no matter what options I choose (username with or without @gmail.com, for example), I always get no contacts and an error. The error says: === Unable to open address book This address book cannot be opened. This either means that an incorrect URI was entered, or the server is unreachable. [Bug 319813] Re: xorg eating 100% of CPU after upgrading to gnome 2.25.5
I'm not sure it's nvidia-glx-177 the problem. It's more than one month I'm experiencing this, and hell if it is annoying; I've got at least four users complaining! The system is barely usable. They have all iMac PPC64 G5 machines, with an nvidia card. However, using a PPC machine, they can't use the binary nvidia drivers. Instead, the nv opensource driver is in use. NOTICE: when the screen fades to black due to gnome-screensaver, the CPU goes back to normal. Logging in with something else other than GNOME doesn't hog the CPU, too. I'm not a nautilus developer, either. I'm an end user. And I can tell you I don't want to pollute the preferences with options confusing and unneeded by most people. However, you're trolling. It has been clearly stated here that you should either report this issue upstream or shut up. If you're too lazy to spend two minutes by registering on b.g.o, then this issue is not important even to you. And keep in mind: this is opensource. [Bug 326582] Re: sort order of files listings in nautilus is not alphabetical
If you're not a developer, you're always free to set a bounty in money for others to implement; that'll foster development. It seems to me that people complaining mistake free as in speech for free as in beer, and also take for granted that, just because a community exists, they have to abuse it giving little in change. Quite a lot of GNOME contributors are volunteers. They deserve more respect than be bullied around at every user request. If you really want to discuss this issue, bring it up on the desktop-devel-l...@gnome.org. Of course there are *always* someone asking for something that isn't there. I've seen all sort of issues across bugzilla; some reasonable, some not. The ability to set priority and tasks, and also the great burden to say 'no' and disgruntle someone in the user base, is a painful and too-often underestimated process: it takes time, effort, and even the best diplomacy sometimes turns out to be wasted. This is very discouraging. *A lot* of devs got so fed up at people *pretending* things, that they now start ignoring them in the first place. This is sad, of course; but the best way to avoid this happening surely isn't being so vocal in the wrong place. In the end, someone has to steer the wheel. The decision that has been taken with nautilus has been the one most requested at the time of implementation. Please also research bugs complaining about lexicographical ordering, and MLs. Yours isn't a proof people want to change implementation, just that there exist someone disgruntled (a person, in the comment you pointed out, that hasn't been active in bugzilla apart from that). Your reasoning is faulty there. As a side note, try push a feature request like this up to, say, Microsoft or Apple, since Ubuntu will never be the OS for the masses. Please keep us posted on their response. They tell me that even a phone call is around 18€ in Microsoft. This kind of angst-driven comments really makes me take the other side of the discussion, despite the technical merits. --- By the way, to stay more on this bug contents: if an implementation of this really needs to be there, the right way in my opinion to have it is by adding a new gconf key retaining current sorting behaviour by default, but *not* adding a new UI element in the nautilus preferences dialog. Please note that lexicographical ordering is hard nevertheless in the UTF-8 world. -- sort order of files listings in nautilus is not alphabetical https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/326582 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 310171] [NEW] Evolution 2.24.2-0ubuntu1 fetches email, but doesn't show it in the treeview
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution Since last Thursday (18 Dec), evolution does indeed fetch emails from servers (they aren't there, and you can open in gedit in ~/.evolution/mail/local/Inbox and scroll to the end to see them). However, the treeview from the evolution GUI doesn't show any mail, read or unread, after Thursday. Gosh! This is also critical since it usually removes emails from server. [Bug 235222] Re: Totem Gstreamer Hue Keep Changing (Ubuntu 8.04 LTS)
Maybe I can help with this, since it's at least 6 months I'm seeing this intermittently on my PPC machine (could be related to the nv video drivers, dunno). What happens is: * start a movie in Totem, for example a mpeg4 video; the color is not very bright, and sometimes a kind of sepia tone. * go to Preferences, and look at the Hue and Saturation sliders. They're all in the middle. You can reset them with the appropriate button if necessary: the movie colors still don't show right. * bring the slider of Hue to the right-end of the line * now colors of the movie are back to normal: of an acceptable intensity and the movie is watchable. The Hue and Saturation sliders seem to have an effect only on some cases and not on others; for example, I can reproduce this bug without problem on my PPC machine with an nVidia card, but those sliders do absolutely nothing no matter how I set them on my x86 machine with an i810 driver. But maybe this is a different kind of bug. [Bug 210783] [NEW] Cannot save/copy images properly from evince
Public bug reported: Using latest Hardy, on many PDFs I cannot save or copy the correct image (that is to say, almost all of the ones I've tried). If PDF image-saving support is so buggy, it should be temporarily disabled in the final Hardy release instead that kept there as a half-working feature -- at least imho. In the attached test-case (even if quite ugly, I just took some random images lying there on my hard disk), try copying/saving the images you see into e.g. OpenOffice.org Writer. There are a lot of issues: * Transparent PNGs are rendered with a black background. * If you try to select the image on the background (the one with the flag), you probably get any of the other images saved instead. For example, try in the upper-right corner of the picture, where you see the blue sky. No image is stacked above that area, neither a transparent one. * Then there's the transparence issue: try copying the image in space labeled as A. You don't get the chest, but the image of the zealot. Transparence should be taken in account and images with alpha 255 on a particular point (where you do your right click) ignored in the z-stack -- users expect the chest to be copied, because that's what they see. Probably at least part of this gets fixed by updating poppler to 0.8.0 for Hardy. See also GNOME bug #310008. I can attach other test-cases if needed, I should be able to find easily something under a CC license. ** Affects: evince Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown ** Affects: poppler (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Cannot save/copy images properly from evince https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/210783 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to poppler in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

I'll be more than happy to produce a backtrace as soon as I the right dbg pkg is available, if the bug is still there with latest gvfs versions. gvfs is now at version 0.1.6, and the dbg packages at 0.1.4. -- gvfsd-sftp crashed with SIGSEGV in IA__g_data_input_stream_read_line() https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/186546 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 116236] Re: evince shows a mostly blank pdf
Fixes the rendering of the first page of the Firefox ad (http://launchpadlibrarian.net/9611234/nytimes-firefox-final.pdf) -- thanks! However, the firefox logo on the second page isn't showed, whereas it should be present. [Bug 154096] Print options shouldn't be saved across different sessions
Public bug reported: Every time I use an application which makes use of the GtkPrint dialog, and I change the settings listed there, my choiches are remembered and reused for the next time I want to print. This leds to some confusion in my opinion. For example, it happened to me to print a PDF in evince on a day, selecting it with two pages per sheet, and asking myself the next day (the following time I did printing in evince) why all my curriculum vitae where split in two. Or, more frequently, print 10 copies of a leaflet, and then forget to check it for the next print which is a Shakespeare's complete novel, going to buy me a coffee, and return after half an hour with three or four spare copies of Macbeth. Not to count the problems the famigerate page selection options, expecially when you've to handle over your work to your colleagues during a meeting, and you discover too late you've got a lot of odd pages of your presentation, but no even-numbered one! In short, it would be a sensible behaviour if evince or GtkPrint (I think the culprit is the second one, but feel free to correct me if I'm mistaken) would save my choiches across _any printing operation for the same document_ (until the document changes, or the application is closed) instead of _any printing operation for any document_. If needed, a Save as default options button could be added to the printing dialog. Also the attached PDF is mostly blank, whereas Adobe Acrobat shows it correctly. Is it also due to this problem, or due to transparency? [Bug 133561] Incorrect audio in AC-3 encoded AVI file with Totem/Gstreamer
Public bug reported: There are files that play fine in mplayer, but are played with incorrect sound/very-low volume in Totem using Gstreamer. I don't have any DB Surround 5.1 hardware, just my laptop speakers on a cheap Intel soundcard :-). I'm attaching one of the culprits. It's a nine-second sample re-encoded with video low-quality, but audio left untouched in AC-3. [Bug 85371] Re: Gstreamer returns wrong total time in audio tracks
Okay, an update. I explicitly tried to encoding a file in CBR mode via gstreamer using sound-juicer. I used lame and set a fixed bitrate of 192 kbps. This still produced wrong duration times. However, right clicking on _some_ (not all, that's the strange thing!) of these files in nautilus and selecting the Audio tab, reports a bitrate of 32 kbps. These are the files with a wrong duration, probably because the value gstreamer returns for bitrate is used when calculating song total length. Jan, could you please check in nautilus the bitrate of a song that is affected by this bug? So at least we could have a confirmation of the hypothetical cause of the problem. -- Gstreamer returns wrong total time in audio tracks https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/85371 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for gst-plugins-ugly0.10 in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 85371] Re: Gstreamer returns wrong total time in audio tracks
Could it be that this happens only on VBR mp3 / ogg files?
