[Bug 981773] [NEW] Secondary screen always rotated 90 degrees clock- or counterclockwise
Public bug reported: On my HP Pavilion zv6000 with 12.04 beta2 (updated until April 14), the secondary screen (connected to the VGA port) is always rotated 90 degrees clockwise or counterclockwise. No 'Normal' or '180 Degrees' options are available in the 'Rotation' menu of the Display Settings. When connecting the same external monitor to my HP ProBook 6550b, these options are available and work perfectly. Would this be a limitation / bug in the Radeon driver? [Bug 912964] [NEW] videos are completely loaded into memory on import
Public bug reported: These days, more and more digicams ship with video capabilities. These videos can become huge, multiple gigabytes for one video is not an exception. However, Shotwell seems to be loading the *entire* video into memory before writing it to disk, which completely 'freezes' the import process (there's no indication of the fact that a video is being copied and nothing appears to be happening), slows down the computer since most of the internal memory is being consumed and it potentially crashes machines which are low on memory. What should happen is that: a) the user gets informed by Shotwell that a video is being imported (text feedback with i.e. file name/size + ETA, progress bar, thumbnail of the video) b) instead of loading the entire file into memory, Shotwell should load 'reasonable' chunks at a time and write those to disk sequentially. What surprises me is the following: -I create a new playlist on the iPhone through Rhythmbox. A sync action is called, which seems to finish succesfully. -I then rename the newly created playlist to 'test'. Again, a sync action is called, which also seems to finish succesfully. -When I look on the iPhone, there's no playlist present, however (different bug?). -I finally drag some test mp3's onto the playlist I just created... and nothing happens. I tried again a second and a third time - just nothing. Nothing gets displayed in the logs, rhythmbox does nothing, the iPhone doesn't sync... Just nothing happens. It's kind of hard to reproduce a bug when the step leading to the bug fails entirely... :( I attached a video of what happens. Feel free to remove it if it's not useful. On the usability side of things - don't you agree the button called 'Manage Groups' is actually misleading when the user hasn't unlocked the settings? There's nothing to manage after all. [Bug 486130] [NEW] [regression] Wrong GID is proposed when creating a group using users-admin
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-system-tools On Karmic, when using the graphical tool (users-admin) to create a new group, the GID that's proposed is 0, instead of the first available GID (usually 1001 or higher). Therefore, all users who are tagged to be part of this group, actually become part of the 'root' group if the user doesn't change the GID manually. This used to work correctly in previous Ubuntu versions. Steps to reproduce: 1. Open System - Administration - Users and Groups The 'Users Settings' screen appears. 2. Click on the 'keys'-button to allow changes and enter your password 3. Click on 'Manage Groups' 4. Click on 'Add Group' The 'New group' screen appears. 5. Notice the predefined Group ID (GID) is set to '0'. As stated above, if the user doesn't change the GID manually (which was done automagically in previous Ubuntu versions), but does tag users to be Group Members, the new group isn't created as soon as the user clicks 'OK', but the tagged users ARE in fact added to group 0, which is root. Needless to say, this may have serious consequences for system security. I haven't tagged this bug as such yet, but perhaps it should be. [Bug 207072] Re: nautilus does not display samba shares for machines inside an ADS network.
Sorry guys, but it's still not working in our situation (connecting from a fully patched 8.10 box to our IBM iSeries running i5/OS version 6r1m0 with i5/OS NetServer). When I try to browse the server using smb://server in nautilus, I get the following error: Could not display smb://server. Error: Failed to retrieve share list from server Please select another viewer and try again. See attached screenshot. Connecting from an XP box works flawlessly. Connecting from the same 8.10 box to an Ubuntu 8.04.2 server running Samba, it works fine. I can imagine that our problem is not fully related to the original bug since the i5/OS NetServer software wasn't compiled by our friend from Redmond, so if I need to file a new bug for our situation, please let me know. ** Attachment added: smb_browse_error_intrepid.png http://launchpadlibrarian.net/23300018/smb_browse_error_intrepid.png -- nautilus does not display samba shares for machines inside an ADS network. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/207072 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 207072] Re: nautilus does not display samba shares for machines inside an ADS network.
I just can't help wondering... Canonical sells commercial support on desktops. What does Canonical say to customers who run into this problem (which I have no doubt they will)? Or is there an official workaround? If so, why hasn't this solution been made available? By the way - I just tried Kubuntu 8.10 RC and our fileserver (IBM iSeries running i5 OS) is still (or also?) showing the problem in this bug. All Windows clients in our network can work with the same server without any problems. [Bug 252722] Re: notification area won't hold applets
As I mentioned in the initial bugreport, this problem does not seem to affect other users on the system. So I guess the only thing I can do to permanently rid myself of this problem is removing all of my settings or create a new account and start using that one? The thing I hate most about this problem, is that is just doesn't seem to be happening every time. Today, I logged in on my system and the problem didn't occur (and I didn't change anything to my system). The only thing out of the ordinary was that my girlfriend shut down the system last night, without logging me off. I wonder if the problem will return once I log off again properly... Too bad there doesn't seem to be a way to pin-point this problem by looking at logs or something. I'm getting this feeling I used to have when I was still running Windows: system misbehaving without ever figuring out what's causing it :( -- notification area won't hold applets https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/252722 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 252722] Re: notification area won't hold applets
Well, seems like I 'solved' the problem by deleting the entire top panel and re-creating it from scratch. After logging out and back in again, the notification area worked as normal again. Of course, this is just a workaround and not a real solution to whatever was causing this problem. I'll close this 'bug' for now and re-open it when I experience this problem again (why isn't there a 'closed' option in the status dropdown menu? 'Invalid' just doesn't feel like the right status for this problem, because it most certainly was a valid problem for me...). ** Changed in: gnome-panel (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Invalid -- notification area won't hold applets https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/252722 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Well that's the funny part - I never changed anything from the default Ubuntu settings when it comes to the notification area. [Bug 252722] [NEW] notification area won't hold applets
Public bug reported: This problem started about a week ago and occurs often, but not always: When logging into Gnome, the notification area doesn't load any applet icons into the area where they are supposed to appear, but instead these applets appear on the desktop like 'ordinary' applications. See the attached screenshot for an example. Logging out and back in doesn't seem to solve the problem, rebooting sometimes does. This problem seems to be user-specific, because when I log in using a different account, the problem doesn't occur. I tried removing and re- adding the notification area to the upper bar on the problematic account, but that doesn't solve the problem. I'm filing this as a bug because naturally, such a problem should never occur.
