[Bug 1876308] Re: in GIO 2.64.2 (Ubuntu 20.04) smb file attributes corrupted
It seems to be the same problem as bug 1872476, but there it seems to affect samba. I found that samba 4.11.7 alone works fine and that the bug only occurs if the samba shares are mounted with gio mount. Therefore I suppose it is a gio bug. Before installing a patched samba version in my system I would like to know what has been done there. A patched samba can be quite a security risk. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gvfs in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1876308 Title: in GIO 2.64.2 (Ubuntu 20.04) smb file attributes corrupted To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gvfs/+bug/1876308/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1876308] [NEW] in GIO 2.64.2 (Ubuntu 20.04) smb file attributes corrupted
Public bug reported: If the samba protocol is reduced to SMB-1 (option client max protocol = NT1 in smb.conf), in all samba shares mounted with gio mount, the mounting used by file managers like Nautilus or Thunar, ordinary files are displayed as empty folders and therefore not usable. The problem seems to be new in Ubuntu 20.04 (samba 4.11 and GIO 2.64.2) because it did not exist in Ubuntu 18.04 LTS (samba 4.7 and GIO 2.56.4). [Bug 310598] Re: can't copy or move folders with gnome-user-share
I wonder why this bug is still set invalid in gvfs. I explaned that you misunderstood what I was doing. I never had tried to share a file that's already been shared! I only tried to copy the folder dav://gu...@192.168.1.100:53811/Musik to my home folder. That did not work, the folder was not found. It was no problem to copy the same folder from the POSIX compatible alternative address ~/.gvfs/WebDAV on 192.168.1.100/Musik to my home folder. That is why I am convinced that this is a parsing problem in the gvfs frontend for WebDAV. -- can't copy or move folders with gnome-user-share https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/310598 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is the registrant for gvfs. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 310598] Re: can't copy or move folders with gnome-user-share
I am so sorry. I don't know how to explain what I really mean. The problem is not half as complicated as what you describe, it is very simple. I never tried to share a file that's already been shared. I totally agree with you that this is nonsense! In the folder Public (or Öffentlich, for it's a german version) in my home folder there is a folder Musik which contains some mp3 files. That's all for the server, no shared files are concerned there. On the client the folder appears with the syntax dav://gu...@192.168.1.100:53811/Musik. Single files from that folder can easily copied from that folder to other folders on the client (downloaded), bot not the whole folder. That's all. But it is not normal. Using the other (optional and extra) POSIX compatible access way, the same folder can be copied with no problems. That's why I think it might be a parsing problem in the standard Syntax dav://. In Samba, copying folders with the syntax smb:// does work, so it must be something else than the double slash that causes the problem.
Well, English not beeing my native language, I certainly did not explain very well. Sorry. The problem is not at all sharing a foreign share. It is a client problem. On the client, the shares are published with the syntax dav://. If you simply try to copy one of the shared folders to the client (which is nothing but a normal download), it does not work, and you get the error message not found. Copying (downloading) single files in the same way works fine. It must be a gvfs problem on the client. In gvfs there is always a second way to access published folders (it is the same for samba shares). You can find them in a hidden folder .gvfs in your home directory. There the access is possible without the double slash via ~/.gvfs/WebDAV on IP. If this way is used to access the shared folders, they can be copied or moved to the client without any problems. That is why I still think that gvfs is affected. Since gnome-user-share is meant to be a tool for everyone, the default way must work without any sofisticated workarounds! -- can't copy or move folders with gnome-user-share https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/310598 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is the registrant for gvfs. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 164971] Re: Gnome freezes after moving or deleting many files
There have some new important details been observed since, even if we could not get a useful logfile yet: When audio preview is activated, but not working for there is no esound installed, a new pipe is opened whenever the mouse is moved over a symbol of a mp3-file (You can see that with lsof -c nautilus). That can lead very quickly to a huge number of open files, and Nautilus will freeze quite soon. After deactivating audio preview the number of open pipes does not increase any more by moseover, but it still does increase by handling mp3-files, so that the same bug still can happen, but later than before and not so often. Obviously there are other programs (perhaps players or plugins) who do open pipes. Even if this bug is not a problem of Nautilus itself, it is very ennoying, and new users will loose confidence in Ubuntu when observing such problems! [Bug 164971] Re: Gnome freezes after moving or deleting many files
It seems to be a pure Nautilus problem indeed. It is not Gnome but Nautilus that freezes. Restarting Nautilus is sufficient to get it working for a while, there is no need to restart the X-Server as I did first. There is no ordinary program crash; Nautilus freezes rather slowly: To begin, the specific icons for music files are replaced by neutral symbols, then Nautilus refuses to open files and the above mentioned error-message appears. At last even open windows can't be closed any more. The Gnome-panels continue to work. So Nautilus can be shut down and restartet by system/administration/system-monitor. It seems to me that Nautilus behaves as if there really were too many open files, even if there are not. I suppose that it forgets to close files correctly after handling them. I think the problem is new in Gutsy (Nautilus 2.20.0). [Bug 164971] Re: Gnome freezes after moving or deleting many files
I don't think this logfile is very instructive. It is the actual one, even beeng rather old (07-11-19). The problem had appeared several times since, not creating a debug file. It seems to me that Nautilus not really crashed but that there were really too many open files, even if I had not opened any. I noticed the bug always when I managed audio-files, specially mp3. That for I would not be surprised if it turned out to be a problem of audio preview, opening files to identify them and not closing them correctly afterwards. That could lead to a big number of open files. In Bug #125739 a similar problem arrised from the beginning and not only after some time of handling files. But, please, don't let us wait forever! -- Cannot edit audio profiles without closing the list https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/84007 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 84007] Re: Cannot edit audio profiles without closing the list
Thanks, Bruce! If it makes you want to fix this bug, then perhaps all this moaning was not so wrong! Even if it is not a security risc (I do agree with Sebastien), this bug is important, and it might well stop somebody using Ubuntu. Sound-Juicer is the standard application for ripping CDs to MP3 players, and just that does not work! The workaround described above is not easy, and I am not even shure it really works (see comment of Sergio). Good luck! But don't forget to sleep the night anyhow!
Sorry, Sebastien. You are right, and I don't want to demotivate anyone. Be sure that I recognize and estimate the very good work you and all the maintainers do! And I am sure, the others think the same way. I'll try to be more patient. [Bug 115928] Re: access via samba denied to nautilus network browser in feisty
I open a window with the network browser in the same way as I used to do in Edgy and as I always do in Windows: click on 'network': - window with symbol 'windows network' appears double click on symbol 'windows network': - window with the symbol for the Domain/Workgroup appears double click on the Domain/Workgroup symbol: - window with the shares of the selected server appears double click on a personalized share (hd partition FAT32 mounted in /media/Daten, owned by myself, uid = 007): - acess denied ! In Edgy a password demand had followed at this place, and after entering the username and the samba password, the access to ther share had been free for rw. This password demand did never happen in Feisty. After removing the restriction uid = 007 for this partition in /etc/fstab on the server a read-only access becomes possible without password, but rw does not work. In the logfile I found, that the access to the share had only been tried as nobody and never with my identity. For user 'nobody' this behaviour of Samba is correct. Using connection to server instead of the network browser and entering the address of the share allowes to enter username and password and to establish a correct access to the share. Mounting the share on the client with username and password also is possible. That proves that it's not a Samba problem. -- access via samba denied to nautilus network browser in feisty https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/115928 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
