I found another cause for this behavior. None of the available fixes worked for me, so I did a clean install of beta 1 and everything was working fine. I then started moving back my old configuration step-by-step. As soon as I reached my custom .Xmodmap the issue started to re-appear. There were also some errors regarding .Xmodmap in .xsession-errors, but I am not sure whether that had anything to do with the weird behavior. Since at least version 2.21.4 on Hardy, Epiphany doesn't show any JavaScript
dialogs anymore.
RoundCube, for example, uses these dialogs to confirm delete actions. Typing
javascript:alert("foo"); into the address bar also doesn't work anymore. The
confirmation button for about:config also doesn't work; I guess this also uses
some JavaScript code.
This all works as expected in Firefox and, surprisingly, also Liferea
(which also uses XULRunner 1.9).
