I have this issue on Ubuntu 23.10. Lock screen works only with an external monitor connected. Otherwise the session is ended and the user is logged out and brought to the gdm screen. Having this issue as same as Kes describes. Can be reproduced under Xorg environment running Nvidia 510 drivers and Ubuntu 22.04. Did not have this issue under 20.04. If I have a youtube video running the chrome window lags and the terminal window lags while moving them. If I have this page open it moves without lag. I tried to disable Desktop Icons NG, it helped the issue a bit, but there is still extreme lag. Using Wayland seems to solve the issue, but there are still programs like OBS that I need to use that can't capture the desktop ( not related to this ). Running glxgears also give me lag while moving the window. Let me know if you need me to try something specific that might help you get more data out. I think this issue is a symptom of a much deeper problem; Canonical need a good designer that understand users behavior and can create a consistent UI. Many ideas are good in Unity, but the overall execution and UI-design is flawed and lacks consistency. Mark is clearly not the man to make this kind of decisions - he need someone that understands UI and design (read Jonathan Ive, mk II). It's no coincidence that Apple have been successful on consumer products - understanding user behavior, careful UI design and aesthetic perfectionism. Don't get me wrong, i love the Ubuntu, i just wish it will become what it could be.
