[Bug 364838] Re: nautilus excessive cpu and delay opening directories
Ubuntu 9.10 rc Using Nautilus, the time it takes to display files in (for example) the /usr/bin directory with 1573 files takes 2 mins 23 seconds. It seems the problem has to do with using 'icon' or 'list' view. I always use list view and that causes it to take over 2 mins. If I use icon view it takes around 20 seconds. Select (say) /usr/bin and with the Nautilus dropdown control change to List view from Icon view. It takes ages to show the result on my machine. Switch back to Icon or Compact view and it's much quicker to display. Sometimes when it's taking too long I kill Nautilus and all the icons are removed from the desktop. [Bug 52836] Re: [Bug 52836] Re: Crash when moving folder to trash
Sebastien Bacher wrote: there is no reason it behaves different running with gksudo, that's just another user and that doesn't change the software, it might be than the events notification are not working for that user though, which would mean it's bugged with gksudo. If you have another annoyance, use another bug, abusing that one makes harder for people who read it to understand what is the issue and to reply. That issue is fixed with edgy Did you read the previous comments now? Could you comment on if that's a duplicate of bug #36500? And if that's not on what is different? Point taken about other annoyances Sebastien. Yes it's almost a duplicate of #36500 Except it works as it should when run with gksudo, i.e. Nautilus doesn't close unexpectedly. I can confirm that this always happens on my machine too. -- Crash when moving folder to trash https://launchpad.net/bugs/52836 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 52836] Re: [Bug 52836] Re: Crash when moving folder to trash
Sebastien Bacher wrote: Thanks for your bug. Is that a duplicate of bug #36500? That's not a crash, the folder you are browsing is moved so the window open on it is closed since it would be wrong to keep a window on something non- existant on the disk... ** Changed in: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Untriaged = Low Assignee: (unassigned) = Ubuntu Desktop Bugs Status: Unconfirmed = Needs Info Hi Sebastien, I think it is a bug because if I run Naultilus using 'sudo' it doesn't do it. A directory above the deleted directory gets selected (highlighted). So it means that it behaves differently between user and sudo. This can't be correct can it? [Bug 52836] Re: [Bug 52836] Re: Crash when moving folder to trash
Sebastien Bacher wrote: Mike, there is no reason for it to behave differently. Are you using browser mode with sudo too or spatial? Do you use dapper or edgy? Will, the questions are in previous comment, feel free to read a bug when you comment on it :) I use 'gksudo' of course, not in spatial mode (tree in left pane). I'm using Dapper. I think the gksudo result is the correct one, who wants an app to close just for removing a folder?. It's really annoying. Another annoyance is not being able to create a folder from the right pane. Why can't both windows operate the same way? The right click is different in each pane. -- Crash when moving folder to trash https://launchpad.net/bugs/52836 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
