[Bug 1528928] Re: Specially crafted postscript file forces a segfault

2023-02-06 Thread Albert Nash
On my machine,

sudo systemd-analyze plot|a2ps > temp.ps

produces

request id is PDF-110 (0 file(s))

in my temp.ps. Do you mean

sudo systemd-analyze plot|a2ps -o temp.ps

or

sudo systemd-analyze plot|a2ps - > temp.ps

or something else? In the first two cases, please provide us with the
permissions of the file generated, i.e., with the output of

ls -la temp.ps

to decide whether this bug is an instance of bug #1910421; cf.
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evince/+bug/1910421 .
(Personally, I doubt that these two bugs have the same cause, but you
never know…)

[Bug 839157] Re: Bluetooth applet (OBEX send/browse) does not work since Natty (after bluetoothd 4.84 exactly)

2013-03-19 Thread J C Nash
I have been struggling with this on an Asus Eee 1005HA. Both regular
utilities and blueman pair, but browsing (obex ftp) fail. They also fail
in Mint 14 (based on quantal) as well as Precise 12.04 (launched as live
USB). Interestingly, everything seems to work OK with an Asus USB dongle
on three other machines (I could not sort out how to use 2 bluetooth
devices on the 1005HA). I suspect the dongle has a different chip. If it
is useful, contact me (nashjc at uottawa.ca) offlist and tell me
what info to get and also the commands to do so.

!0.04 Lucid, also run as live USB) DOES work. This supports the suggestion in
other bug posts (e.g., one on fedora bugzilla
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=747575 that the issue is somewhere
in the kernel. However, it does also seem to be hardware-dependent.

[Bug 883711] Re: Workspace Switcher applet number of workspaces resets to 1 after logging into GNOME 3 Shell and switching back to fallback classic mode

2012-06-30 Thread John D. Nash
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 826089 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/826089

Confirmed. Even if I use (right click / preferences) to set the
workspace swticher to 8 workspaces in 2 rows, then next time I log in it
is back to 2x2 grid with 1 workspace.

Need to set it every time I log in. Since Unity came out there has been
a drive to make it more cell phone like -- harder to use to get work
done. There is a cute little workspace switcher in Unity, but switching
workspaces requires three clicks each time and it can only accommodate 4
workspaces -- very suboptimal compared with clicking once on the Gnome
panel workspace swticher.

I haven't figured out where to set the default values for the Gnome
workspace switcher in compiz, and the following code (which was offered
in a forum) does not solve the problem either.

gconftool --type Integer --set /apps/compiz-1/general/screen0/options/vsize 8
gconftool --type Integer --set /apps/compiz-1/general/screen0/options/hsize 8

[Bug 404638] Re: enable touchpad setting has no effect in karmic

2010-03-24 Thread J C Nash
This still seems to be a problem. I just acquired an Asus UL30A-A2. The
touchpad tab does not show up under System - Preferences - Mouse. I've
tried various tools such as synclient (tells me SHMConfig not enabled,
and many, many tried with fdi files later, still says so), also
touchfreeze, gpointing-device-settings. Also gconf-editor, where I turn
off tap-to-click in desktop - gnome - peripherals - touchpad, but still
have tapping available, and of course all the nuisance of typing like a
ballerina on points.

[Bug 386150] Re: Nautilus file browser toolbar is complicated, redundant, and ugly

2009-06-21 Thread NaSH
well... i think it's a very bad idea.
most user, on other os, use the navigation arrow.. remove them, mean annoying
lots of new user on linux.
i even use them very often, without thinking about it. And if you look how
people use win95-vista, you'll see they use it everyday.

So removing it is a bad idea if you want to spread the use of a file
manager on linux.

reducing the size of nautilus on the screen is for me, one of the main thing
that has to be done.
the toolbar is too big, it's true. i don't know about the icons inside, but
don't remove the arrow, witch are usefull for many newbie.

another important point for me, is the size of the folders, i already talked
about it on the bug that have been merged with this one :
https://bugs.launchpad.net/hundredpapercuts/+bug/388089
(do i need to repeat ? or just a link is engouh? i'm not used with the way

Will do. Thanks JN

Have you enabled apport? In /etc/default/apport, there should be
'enabled=1'. Once enabled, try to replicate the crash. There should be a

 bug for that.

I have had many crashes of this sort over the last few days. /var/crash is
EMPTY -- this is a really nasty one. It affects (for me so far)
Firefox
Thunderbird (trying to attach files)
OpenOffice (writer, presentations)
gedit

The symptom is that the whole application crashes i.e., when composing
msg in TBird, click Attach and poof -- no TBird.

[Bug 184699] problems to shut off automatic entry to address book

2008-01-20 Thread Nash Thakker
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Hi
I am trying to shut off Evolution from making automatic entries of e-mails I
respond to in my address book.
To do this I have gone into
“EDIT”
“PREFERENCES”
“AUTOCOMPLETION” and unchecked the option box, hoping this would solve the
problem. But the problem still persists.

Further more, from “PREFERENCES” section I have gone to
“MAIL PREFERENCES”
“AUTOMATIC CONTACTS” and then unchecked the option box for “AUTOMATICALLY
CREATE ENTRIES IN THE ADDRESS BOOK WHEN RESPONDING TO EMAILS” But nothing
seems to work.
Please help how to solve this problem.

[Bug 184482] Unable to save on USB drive

2008-01-19 Thread Nash Thakker
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

When I insert a memory stick in my USB drive the computer recognises it
and successfully opens it - hence no problem on that side.

The problem is when I try to save files such as open office onto the
memory stick or using other UBUNTU applications or copy and paste files
from “Documents” folders.

When I try to save files on the memory stick, this is what happens. The files
appear to have been saved in the Memory stick. But when you pull out the memory
stick and insert it into another computer I get a blank screen.
Sometimes an empty shell of the original files saves appears on the memory
stick but with nothing in them – I.e. just an empty shell. But on some cases
the files seems to save properly.

Also when I pull out the memory stick I keep getting “Unsafe device
removal” message. asking me to go and tinker with “Reject” in the drive
icon.

But the Memory stick Icon has no “Reject” option.

For your information I have two hard drive on the PC. I am not that
great with PC and any help you send me will be appreciated bit please
talk in the language of people as I am not that expert in PCs.

[Bug 184483] Unable to save on USB drive
