I thought doing that but there isn't a package called totem-dbgsym. Anyway I installed totem-gstreamer-dbgsym and did a backtrace and a strace. Hope this helps. Public bug reported: Binary package hint: totem I can't play any video or music file with totem it just hangs and I've to force it to quit. To reproduce the bug I just need to launch totem and open a music or video file. Sorry didn't know how to get more information and launching nautilus from terminal didn't gave me any output. Thank you for pointing me the right direction, now I know what to do. Unfortunately I reinstalled ubuntu and now i can't reproduce the bug. Well...that is less one problem to solve for me.
