[Bug 1581713] Re: Ubuntu Software always asks for an Ubuntu Single Sign-On account when installing or removing a snap package

2020-10-30 Thread Onno
Ubuntu sucks. I'm sorry, it just does.

I have to install teams for linux and I have been working hard for hours
to get it installed without success.

Canonical seems heel bent on making Ubuntu as unproductive as it
possibly can be.

I know it is fixed but is just doesn't work. I updated snapd - no
success.

I can logon using web interface but not via software manager. That is
why Ubuntu sucks. It is the truth.

[Bug 840875] Re: Empathy sends a notification "Password required" without any supplementary info

2011-10-12 Thread Onno Steenbergen
I'm also affected by this issue, however I think the message is send because I
have it as a Startup Application. On login no network connection is available,
which causes the messages and just after these messages appear a network
connection is available and everything connects properly.
If I close the application and start it with a working connection I do not see
any notifications.

So a fix might be to first check for a network connection before empathy
tries to connect.

[Bug 576744] Re: Unable to modify brightness when the screen is locked

2011-05-25 Thread Onno Steenbergen
This bug affects me as well.

There are a lot of use cases where this happens either a user disables
the screen (working on a second monitor) or the automatic features
disable it. If the PC/laptop is then locked there is no way of enabling
the backlight.

This should be enabled for the main shortcuts like:
- Backlight
- Keyboard backlight
- Volume

And could be enabled for the media buttons (play/pause)

I experience this bug multiple times a week so as Tomi Pieviläinen said
the importance could be higher.

[Bug 637702] Re: Prompted to unlock keyring twice on log in

2010-10-19 Thread Onno Steenbergen
Found a temporary fix and maybe a cause of the problem
There are two keyrings one called 'login' and the other is called 'default' and
is the default keyring. During login only the 'login' keyring gets unlocked,
thus when connection via WiFi it asks for the password of the 'default' keyring.

So I set the 'login' keyring as default and removed the 'default'
keyring. And now I don't see the unlock screen anymore.

Although this is a fix it should be clear that the 'automatically unlock
keyring' option should work.

I guess this is a function that does not work correctly. When you drag

[Bug 285323] Re: Losing keyboard and mouse control when changing screen brightness with fn + arrow under intrepid

2008-12-29 Thread Onno Zweers
I agree totally with Wirawan. This bug, though small, is very serious. I
found the workaround Ctrl+Alt+Fx by myself because I wanted to check the
problem from the command line, but there are more and more users out
there who have no idea that their Linux has six text terminals. The only
thing they know is: if I use completely normal keys on my keyboard,
Linux crashes. Their conclusion will be that Ubuntu, or Linux in
general, sucks.

My setup, in case anybody is interested: Inspiron 1150, Linux

[Bug 297848] Re: Shared Folders Administration Tool does not show Nautilus Shares

2008-11-13 Thread Onno Benschop
After removing the tick box from the Nautilus sharing option and sharing
the folder through the shares-admin tool, the folder is once again
shared.

Nautilus does not show that the folder is shared.

Sharing the folder in Nautilus, while it is shared using shares-admin,
results in a shared folder.

Stopping the folder from being shared in Nautilus, while the folder is
still shared in shares-admin results in the folder vanishing from the
network. /etc/samba/smb.conf and shares-admin both show the folder as
shared, but it's not visible. Reloading samba does not fix this problem.

Resharing the folder in shares-admin results in the folder being
available.

The workgroup remains the same (WORKGROUP), even if it's changed in
shares-admin.

[Bug 297848] [NEW] Shared Folders Administration Tool does not show Nautilus Shares

2008-11-13 Thread Onno Benschop
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-system-tools

When a folder is shared by right-clicking on the folder in Nautilus and
sharing it, the folder is shared, but it does not show up in shares-
admin.

File sharing is hard enough for novice users without adding an extra
layer of confusion. The list of shared folders should be representative
of the actual folders that are visible to the outside world.

The /etc/samba/smb.conf file does *not* show the Nautilus shares either!

Steps to reproduce:
1. Up to date Intrepid.
2. Share a folder in Nautilus.
3. Launch shares-admin.
4. Notice that there are no shares.
5. Browse the network.
6. Goto WORKGROUP -> Machine and see the Nautilus shared folder.

Public bug reported:

[Bug 138408] Re: gutsy: gdm greeter is crashing

2007-12-07 Thread Onno Benschop
This may or may not assist, but I saw the same behaviour as described.

In my environment, a vmware-server guest, I had cloned the machine and
on the console changed its name in /etc/hostname.

The fix for me was to also change the entry in /etc/hosts.

[Bug 116236] Re: evince shows a mostly blank pdf

2007-10-22 Thread Onno Leerink
I can confirm the last comment. On feisty evince this document rendered
fine but on gutsy the text and some pictures are missing. Rendering with
xpdf is fine. When I select the text I can see it, the pictures do not
show. Other PDF files do not show this problem.

[Bug 50929] Re: Multilayer TIFFs only show one layer.

2007-04-03 Thread Onno Benschop
This is still happening with 2.16.1-0ubuntu1

As a work around, Evince 0.6.1 shows it properly.

I cannot attach my test case because it contains confidential
information, but the tiff contains 18 pages, shown correctly in Gimp and
Evince.

[Bug 73564] [shares-admin] Sharing a folder does not create SMB account

2006-11-28 Thread Onno Benschop
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-system-tools

Setting up a shared folder, using SMB, does not actually create the
Samba user, requiring the user to run the following command before
access is possible:

  sudo smbpasswd -a `whoami`

The symptom on a WinNT host is that it continues to prompt for a password.

I strongly suspect that a desktop user would expect that the SMB account
is the same as their login account, even though the two are separate,
suggesting that the username and password should be synchronised.

It is possible that this bug report needs to be assigned to samba, but I
hesitate to do that because it is the GUI that is hiding (and missing)
the functionality.

[Bug 37126] changes after installing Konquerer. Gnome filemanager is confused

2006-03-28 Thread Onno Timmerman
Public bug reported:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/37126

Affects: meta-gnome2 gnome-desktop-environment (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
After I installed Konquerer my laptop vaio shut it self down a few hours
after. When I restarted Ubuntu started all programmes as it saved the
session. I can't undo this.

However the bigger problem is when I open a directory via the bookmark
system. Opening my home directory isn't a problem as it is done with
gnome file manager. But opening a bookmarket it will open KDE
filemaneger to browse the dir.
