[Bug 2068753] [NEW] gvfs ssh/sftp mount broken in 24.04

2024-06-07 Thread Pat Suwalski
Public bug reported:

I use SSH file mounts in GNOME to go about my daily business.

As of version 24.04 of Ubuntu, navigating to a folder of images and
launching EoG fails to load the whole directory. EoG shows 1/1 files,
and you can't navigate back and forth with the arrows.

Copying between two sftp mounts also fails, and seems to crash the
mount.

Something isn't quite right with the mount, and this is a regression to
what has been working for many years.

** Affects: gvfs (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1832138] Re: Login screen never appears on vmwgfx using bionic kernel 4.15

2019-07-03 Thread Pat
I have also tested the updated kernel from bionic-proposed using the VM
in which the original problem was first experienced.

'uname -a' after adding bionic-proposed to /etc/apt/sources.list and doing
'sudo apt update; sudo apt upgrade'

Linux ubuntuvm1 4.15.0-55-generic #60-Ubuntu SMP Tue Jul 2 18:22:20 UTC
2019 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Like Daniel, the changes incorporated into 4.15.0-55 are working for me as well.

Eric,
your new test kernel works for... and screen-resizing works this time too.

To confirm, I am running the correct kernel build;

[Bug 1832138] Re: Login screen never appears on vmwgfx but installing kernel >= v4.17-rc1 (or using WaylandEnable=false) fixes it

2019-06-18 Thread Pat
Daniel,
I didn't want to lose sight of your ask in comment #34.
I updated to the latest mainstream kernel, and then reverted the mutter
packages (as per comment #31).
That also fixes the problem.

Specifically, this configuration is working for me;

uname -a

Linux ubuntuvm1 4.15.0-52-generic #56-Ubuntu SMP Tue Jun 4 22:49:08 UTC
2019 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

sudo dpkg --list | grep mutter

ii  gir1.2-mutter-2:amd64
3.28.3+git20190124-0ubuntu18.04.2amd64GObject introspection
data for Mutter
ii  libmutter-2-0:amd64
3.28.3+git20190124-0ubuntu18.04.2amd64window manager
library from the Mutter window manager
ii  mutter
3.28.3+git20190124-0ubuntu18.04.2amd64lightweight GTK+
window manager
ii  mutter-common
3.28.3+git20190124-0ubuntu18.04.2all  shared files for the

And display resizing also works as expected.

Eric,
I installed the 4.18 kernel on one of my Ubuntu 18.04 VMs by doing 'sudo apt
install linux-generic-hwe-18.04'

As further evidence that you may be onto something...
The system boots up fine, presents a GUI login prompt, and I am able to login
and use the system as expected (without having to uncomment
#WaylandEnabled=false in /etc/gdm3/custom.conf)

Good find, #6. I came about the same result but couldn't explain why my
control center stopped crashing.

I needed to make some online account changes, so I had switched to the
Ubuntu session to get that done, and the control center worked
flawlessly in Gnome ever since. Your explanation seems correct.

I have this error occurring when I run the regular GNOME session.

In Ubuntu session, control panel works. In GNOME session, settings does
not launch. Launching "gnome-control-center" from terminal provides the
core dump message initially reported.

[Bug 1623666] Re: iOS device contents not displayed in Ubuntu

2017-05-14 Thread Pat Migliaccio
#28 & #29 did the trick for me as well after a small hiccup.

To get the ./autogen.sh script working for libimobiledevice, I first
needed to install libusbmuxd.

  $ cd ~/path/to/my/build/dir
  $ https://github.com/libimobiledevice/libusbmuxd.git
  $ cd libusbmuxd
  $ ./autogen.sh
  $ make
  $ sudo make install

Then proceeded successfully with #28 and #29.

Linux Mint 18.1 Cinnamon 64-bit
iPhone SE iOS 10.3.1

[Bug 1629251] Re: Some app-indicators not showing menus

2017-04-21 Thread Pat
@Mark Tidd, I had the same problem with pia indicator. I contacted pia's
help desk and they gave me the folowing instructions to fix it. You can
copy and past the instructions in the terminal. It is best to remove the
app and re-install it. The instructions below were sent to me by the
pia's support team:

To remove the app follow these instructions:

Please, I will encourage you to fully remove the PIA app, then download
a fresh copy of the app and re-install, then check if issue persist. To
uninstall our application you can simply run the following terminal
command:

NOTE: Please make sure this step is completed very carefully. All
symbols, and spacing are VERY important. Incorrect usage of this command
can lead to DATA LOSS. (It is best to simply copy and paste the command
below)

rm -rf ~/.pia_manager/

If the command is successful, there will be no confirmation, it will
simply go to a new line in the Terminal window.

Once you have done that, you can install the app from:
https://www.privateinternetaccess.com/installer/download_installer_linux
,

Then, from the terminal in the directory you downloaded to:

1) Extract file: tar -xzf pia-v68-installer-linux.tar.gz

2) Tell OS to proceed: chmod +x pia-v68-installer-linux.sh

3) Run installer: ./pia-v68-installer-linux.sh

Please enter your login details and click save. Make sure not to select
Start application at login and Auto-connect on launch.

To fix the pia app not showing on the indicator, pia's support team suggested
the following:

>From the terminal type the following instructions:

1. Open terminal and type:

cd ~/.pia_manager/pia_manager/

Next run the following (this is case sensitive, so it may be best to
copy and paste),

env XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=Unity ./run.sh

After trying the above, does the icon appear in the tray(it may take 15 seconds
or so)? If not, is there any errors in the terminal?

If the above worked, please proceed to the next step:

2. Next you need to edit pia_manager.desktop in
/.local/share/applications and add the following line after Exec=:

env XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=Unity

To do so, please enter the following commands in terminal:

cd ~/.local /share/applications

Next, type the following:

nano pia_manager.desktop

The final result should look something like the following (additional
information in bold; YourUserName will of course be different, e.g Arthur):

Type=Application Name=Private Internet Access

Exec=env XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=Unity
/home/YourUserName/.pia_manager/pia_manager/run.sh
Icon=/home/YourUserName/.pia_manager/pia_tray_files/img/default_app_logo.png

(there is a space between Unity and /home)

To exit and save, hit ctrl-x on your keyboard and hit y

I also copied the edited pia_manager.desktop in
/.local/share/applications to /user/share/applications folder. This is
so that I can search for the app in the dash. All you need to do in dash
is start type priv it sholud show two green icons for Private Internet
Access. Select the bigger one of the two (it is slightly brighter than
the other). Once the app started, you should see the icon on the
launcher. Right click on it and select lock to launcher. This enables
you to run the app from the launcher from now on.

Hope fully you should the red icon on the app indicator.

Good luck

[Bug 1619711] [NEW] UI implementation is deficient on devices

2016-09-02 Thread Pat McGowan
Public bug reported:

Please excuse this meta bug where I want to capture issues I see with
the initial implementation of this

1 - the indicator should not be shown when there is no hardware keyboard
2 - the label should not be Keyboard Layout by default, it should state the
actual default which is English (this should likely be selected by default in
settings as well)
3 - The label to bring you to settings is "Text Entry Settings..." and it
should be "Keyboard layouts" since that is actually where it links

[Bug 1492892] Re: Implement standalone bluetooth agent handler

this could potentially solve some current connection problems where devices
