[Bug 1442105] Re: GPS not working on my BQ Ubuntu Touch

2016-09-13 Thread Petras
how this can stll have the incomplete status? the gps is broken, it does not
work on bq m10. the test_gps in /usr/bin results in segfaults. this is key
feature of mobile (together with sensorsors) to do the cool stuff (not cool is
like reading mail, tweeting, facebook, and other stuff calculating 1+1, at the
moment ubuntu touch is capable only that), else I dont see what I need for the
mobile linux.
I see gps outputs the nmea output. why not use the gpsd as middle layer. it
also would make possible to use bluetooth gps more advanced/precise receivers.

[Bug 1573674] Re: Location indicator appears and reappears continually on BQ Aquaris M10

2016-09-03 Thread Petras
gps on m10 bq is something realy bad. it worked me only once with
osmscout (nokia's maps makes no sense on that device, as it have no
modem). I cant get it work again. even if indicator appears to show that
gps is ok, there is nothing on osm scout or in sensors app (actualy
sensors app then lounched makes gps indicator disapear). Please ubuntu
sort this out, or at least publish the workaround to get gps workng. oh
and by the way, it loks this is not gui but overly fully bad problem as
'/usr/bin/test_gps' segfaults. I wold like to port some GIS program to
ubuntu touch, but without the gps it is pointless. I am wondering if it
wold be possible to use old good gpsd?

[Bug 1523235] [NEW] Evince crashes when PDF is rewritten by pdflatex

2015-12-06 Thread Vaclav Petras
Public bug reported:

When using Evince as PDF viewer for work with LaTeX, Evince often
crashes when pdflatex rewrites the PDF. This seems much likely to happen
when pdflatex ended with an error in normal stop mode (-interaction
errorstopmode). It happens however, in other pdflatex interaction modes
and possibly even when the file is rewritten without any errors
(although less likely).

There are or were similar bugs, namely Bug #36250, Bug #16973, and Bug
#137635, but this one seems different because it is happening only
lately to me and these bugs are old. I was using this workflow in Ubuntu
14.04 and earlier and it worked well. Now I'm using Lubuntu 15.04 and
the crash is almost regular (when pdflatex fails).

I realize that the PDF is invalid, so it is a bad situation for Evince
but in past Evince was able to deal with that. I think it was just
showing the old version of PDF. If it would show nothing it would be
good as well, perhaps even better (but remembering the position in the
document would be useful too).

[Bug 1472786] [NEW] broadwayd man page misses GDK_BACKEND=broadway

2015-07-08 Thread Vaclav Petras
Public bug reported:

[Bug 1472792] [NEW] evince does not open with broadway backend

2015-07-08 Thread Vaclav Petras
Public bug reported:

On Lubuntu 15.04, when trying to open Evince with GTK+ Broadway backend,
Evince reports incomplete errors and then ends.

In first terminal:

$ broadwayd -a 127.0.0.1 -p 8889 :2
Listening on /run/user/1000/broadway3.socket

In second terminal:

$ GDK_BACKEND=broadway BROADWAY_DISPLAY=:2 evince
Unable to init server: Could not connect: Permission denied
Cannot parse arguments: Cannot open display:

(There is nothing more in the output, program ends.)

gtk3-demo or gitg have GUI in a browser as expected.

Not sure if related or if it is perhaps expected, but I cannot see the

[Bug 1274193] [NEW] Nautilus Extract Here interprets backslashes as characters not directories

2014-01-29 Thread Vaclav Petras
Public bug reported:

Nautilus 3.4.2 Extract Here function interprets backslashes as
characters not directories in a ZIP file which probably has directories
saved in some MS Windows way, so that directories are stored using
backslash.

I run Extract Here on a ZIP file and the result are files with backslash
in file name, e.g.

lf78011331_US_DEM/US_DEM\info\arc.nit
lf78011331_US_DEM/US_DEM\us_dem\dblbnd.adf

The expected result is what unzip gives me, e.g.:

US_DEM/info/arc.nit
US_DEM/us_dem/dblbnd.adf

UnZip 6.00 of 20 April 2009 recognizes the directory structure and
creates correct file names and directories.

I had this problem with the attached ZIP file (public domain data from USGS)
with content:
./US_DEM.grid.aux
./US_DEM.prj
./us_dem
./us_dem/sta.adf
./us_dem/prj.adf
...
./Metadata.dbf
...
./info
./info/arc.nit
./info/arc0002.nit
...
./Metadata.prj

(two sub-directories: us_dem and info, everything is in one parent
directory US_DEM)

[Bug 1164016] Re: restore type-ahead find

2014-01-25 Thread Vaclav Petras
Thanks to the people fixing this bug, in the first place. However, I'm
sorry to put it in this way but Blaster pointed out what is the real bug
which caused this one. It is the strange policy in the Nautilus
development. This might be fixed by changing the policy or changing the
file manager in Ubuntu. Because otherwise, we must ask what will be
next? Removal of Home (/home/user) from the side bar and leaving there
only (My) Documents, (My) Music and (My) Pictures as it is on Mac OS and
some (all?) MS Windows? Removal of possibility to show hidden (.*) files
or removal of list view because everyone wants big thumbnail anyway,
right? ...

I'm sorry to see developers spending their time reimplementing,
debugging and fixing features which already had working implementations
and were removed just few months before. I'm concerned that this state
is not sustainable.

[Bug 1268351] [NEW] Nautilus opens image viewer in foreground but viewer does not have focus

2014-01-12 Thread Vaclav Petras
Public bug reported:

In Ubuntu 12.04 (with Unity), Nautilus 3.4.2 opens GNOME image viewer
3.4.2 in foreground when I (double)click on the image or open the image
using selection and Enter (speaking about default PNG, JPG, ... file
association). However, the viewer does not have focus. So, I have a
window in foreground which at least partially hides the Nautilus window
but when I press F11 to fullscreen, nothing happens and when I press
Alt+F4, the Nautilus window is closed. So, I lose the currently opened
folder or folders and I have to open the Nautilus window and navigate to
them again.

This is not such a issue when you use mouse only but when you use
keyboard shortcuts it is very annoying. Moreover, it is inconsistent
because it actually happens only when one other image viewer window is
already open.

How to reproduce:

* open Nautilus and navigate to the folder with images
* open one of the images
[now the image viewer is in the foreground and has focus/context]
* switch back to Nautilus
* open different (or the same) image
[now now the image viewer is in the foreground and does not have context]
* try F11
[nothing happens]
* try Alt+F4
[Nautilus window in the background is closed]

This might be in fact the problem of the GNOME image viewer and not
Nautilus, from user point of view they are very connected.

[Bug 379367] Re: Gedit adding a newline at the end of file should be configurable

2014-01-12 Thread Vaclav Petras
Can someone clarify the status of this bug report? I can see Invalid
Fix Released seems really strange and there is no explanation how it was
fixed (sorry, I'm not able to understand the proposed patches).

Is there any other way how to changed it except for:

  gsettings set org.gnome.gedit.preferences.editor ensure-trailing-
newline false

or its GUI equivalent? Is there a option in Gedit preferences for this,
so that it is visible to all users without searching online? Was the
design decision reconsidered according the confusion it creates? See for
example:

http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3056740/gedit-adds-line-at-end-of-
page

Was the fact that that most of Gedit users are developers which want to
take care about these things them selves or see the current state in the
file? What is the current default?

Thank you, I would say that explanations at the end of tickets avoids
opening duplicate tickets in the future.

[Bug 1157253] [NEW] Gedit does not restore open tabs after crash correctly

2013-03-19 Thread Vaclav Petras
Public bug reported:

When Gedit crashes a bug report is generated and a dialog offers to
relaunch application. If I choose to relaunch, a gedit window appears,
however all tabs contains empty files. Only file names are correct. (It
seams that all files are gone.)

In other words, only filenames are used instead of full path to restor
tabs.

In the crash report, there was a command line key with the value with
only file names (not with paths).

The possible reason could be that gedit was launched form cmd line not
in home folder but the restored is launched in the home folder. (All
files has the ~ in the brackets, so user can discover that these files
are not files which were open.)

Note: The crash is not related to this ticked. This is bug is about
restoring after crash.

[Bug 1058515] [NEW] inheriting environmental variables when creating new terminal window or tab

2012-09-29 Thread Vaclav Petras
Public bug reported:

If I create new terminal using gnome-terminal command (in terminal), it
inherits environmental variables from the old terminal as any other
application does. But if I create new terminal using Open Tab or Open
Terminal, I get a fresh terminal. This is sometimes what I want but
sometimes not.

I miss the possibility to copy environmental variables from the old
terminal to the new one. Option in preferences would be ok. But some way
to switch the behaviour quickly would be better.

For user there is no difference between the new window/tab and gnome-
terminal command. Only the inheriting of environmental variables.

I also noticed that there is no option to preset environmental variables
for the terminal. Some combination of Profiles and .bashrc file. However
this is a different bug but probably connected, so that why I'm
mentioning it.

[Bug 670085] Re: Clearlooks theme changes by itself

2012-08-28 Thread Vaclav Petras
Hi, sorry for digging this out but I have the same problem on Ubuntu
10.04. Human-Clearlooks randomly changes to something which is similar
to theme at the screenshot (Selection_001.png). For some windows only
button and icons are affected but in most cases window borers are
affected too.

For the first time simple start of Appearance dialog switched everything
back but after some minutes especially the squared corners appeared
again. For the second time change of the theme helped but not for
Nautilus even after closing all its windows (I suppose because it is
still running).

I'm experiencing this for one day.
