[Bug 1915023] [NEW] Fix an extension spamming gnome logs?

2021-02-08 Thread Ron G Crafton
Public bug reported:

So I have this issue were I downloaded the gamemode extension a long
time ago and hade no issue. But in the past month I have been getting
these errors in Gnome Logs being spammed hundreds of times

https://github.com/gicmo/gamemode-extension/issues/35

Object .Gjs_gamemode_christian_kellner_me_extension_GameModeIndicator
(0x5565b80a8c60), has been already deallocated — impossible to set any
property on it. This might be caused by the object having been destroyed
from C code using something such as destroy(), dispose(), or remove()
vfuncs.

Object St.Icon (0x5565b7d04800), has been already deallocated —
impossible to access it. This might be caused by the object having been
destroyed from C code using something such as destroy(), dispose(), or
remove() vfuncs.

So I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the extension, errors
still happen. I then just decided to leave it uninstalled but the errors
still come. Unfortunately the creator Christian seems to have given up
on updating the extension and last update was for Gnome 3.34 and has not
been responsive. What can I do to fix this issue?

[Bug 1879968] Re: copy/paste still sometimes fails in LibreOffice on mutter 3.36.2

2020-06-29 Thread Ron Houk
I agree with the sentiment of others in recent posts. I reported the bug
upstream as well and there doesn't seem to be any interest there either.
I use Linux and home and at work and I need the clipboard to be working
properly. I work at a public library and have been planning on teaching
intro to computers classes using Ubuntu, but I don't want to try to
explain to beginners the concept of cut and paste while at the same time
explaining to them why the OS I'm teaching them on can properly do it.

My solution was to switch to Kubuntu 20.04. It seems to be working
fine. I think that's what I'll teach my classes on as well.

[Bug 1075923] Re: nautilus hangs copying large directories from a samba share

2013-05-30 Thread Ron Grimes
We are running an Ubuntu server at Rackspace with files supplied from an
office of PC/Mac users of no great sophistication. Samba was the way to
go until this bug hit us, and completely stopped us using Samba. We have
resorted to Dropbox (!) to get files uploaded to the server. I don't
like it, but it's the simpest file transfer for the team.

It would be nice to get this fixed... soon!

[Bug 860427] Re: Oneiric displays 'Laptop battery critically low' message after AC is unplugged when 'charged' shown on battery indicator

2011-11-05 Thread Ron Hale-Evans
I finally found a workaround in this thread:
http://ubuntuforums.org//showthread.php?t=1866533 . Specifically,

$ gsettings set org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.power 'use-time-for-
policy' 'false'

made it possible to run my netbook for several minutes without AC (I
didn't bother trying longer), and dconf-tools and experiment show this
setting is persistent across reboots.

The only drawback for me was that I couldn't reboot without AC; my
netbook hung on a blank screen.

Good luck!

[Bug 860427] Re: Oneiric displays 'Laptop battery critically low' message after AC is unplugged when 'charged' shown on battery indicator

2011-10-31 Thread Ron Hale-Evans
Bishnu, thanks for the suggestion. Your workaround didn't work for me,
whether my netbook was configured to hibernate or shut down on low
power. (Dell Inspiron 910 / Dell Mini 9.) The system powered down within
30 seconds even when I closed the pop up with the cross button. I'm glad
someone has found a workaround, anyway.

Possible workaround: I tested 10.04 LTS and it is indeed free of this
bug. Creating a dual-boot 11.10/10.04 machine is an option.

The problem affects me gravely enough that I'm planning to downgrade to
10.04 unless this issue is elevated. It's difficult to credit that a bug
that turns laptops into desktops has been assigned an importance of Low.

My problem is also on a Dell Mini 9 with 11.10. There is a command-line

I use gnome-shell. In this case I wasn't configuring a VPN, I only
wanted to change my wired IP address.

I opened the network settings applet via the taskbar, turned off the
wired connection and clicked configure on the wired connection. (Maybe
I clicked it too fast, as I notice now when I turn off a connection I
can't click configure as its greyed out)

I am not able to reproduce it now.

 Bug description:
 Binary package hint: gnome-nettool

 SRU JUSTIFICATION:
This is a minor patch that affects only the gnome-nettool application, and
only its Ping tab. Regression potential is minimal to null, given that the
new matching strings should catch both the old and new cases; so a new
package taken on an older release (or a new release that reverts ping's
behaviour in outputted data) should still work.

 TEST CASES:
 - Open gnome-nettool, switch to the Ping tab.
 - Try to ping the local machine: enter 127.0.0.1 in the address combo
box.
 - Click the Ping button.

On a successful test, ping requests should pass and return values and draw
bar graphs for results.
On a failed test, ping requests should not move, statistics remain not
updated.

Slighty different problem from the previous bug reports:
Gnome-nettools does not crash, but no results are displayed.
If ran from a terminal, here it is the output (I removed a bunch of
duplicated Gtk-CRITICAL errors) :

[Bug 139627] Re: Clock applet opens wrong day in evolution

I never had this bug in 10.10 but I have it now in 11.04. Opens

[Bug 760523] Re: clock-applet: clicking on a calendar date opens the same number one monther earlier in Evolution

2011-05-23 Thread Ron Lewkowicz
Not really sure where to comment on this as so many duplicates and all
marked fixed. Didn't have this bug with 10.10 but have it now in
11.04. Gnome Classic. Double click on the date in the calendar and it
opens evolution up one day earlier. gnome-panel version is at
1:2.32.1-0ubuntu6.5. Reverted to 1:2.32.1-0ubuntu6.3 and it started
opening up one month and one day earlier. So the one month bug is
fixed, but the one day bug is still there or has been reintroduced.

[Bug 9449] Re: the clock calendar should use tooltips on events

Can anyone confirm whether or not this is an issue in Natty?

In Natty using gnome I no longer have any tasks or appointments show up

on a date in the clock applet calendar it also opens up evolution on the
wrong date. One day earlier than the day you double clicked on.

[Bug 23810] Re: Evolution is unusable in 1024x768

2011-03-23 Thread Ron Laws
WHY HAS NOBODY FIXED THIS
YET
You cannot use Evolution setup OR Calendar on a net-book with 1024x600
resolution! The calendar wants full screen size not taking in to account
minus 22 pixels per panel.

The only way around is to use the 'Toggle-Zoom' script that utilises
xrandr to effectively set the resolution to 1024x768 and squish it in to
the screen, sadly though this is an eye strain and shouldn't be
considered a fix, or use auto hide on your panels if you dont find it
annoying. just something temporary until the Evolution developers can
be bothered to fix their error.

[Bug 737460] [NEW] gnome-session-properties application list is too narrow

2011-03-18 Thread Ron Lusk
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-session

When I open gnome-session-properties (Startup Applications), the list
of startup applications is unusably small: wide enough for a checkbox,
an icon, and an truncated word with ellipses (…). The window has to
be manually enlarged to make use of it.

[Bug 732738] [NEW] netbook cannot use larger monitor

2011-03-10 Thread Ron Lusk
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

Under Maverick, I could connect my Acer (AOA150) netbook (1024x600) to a
1024x768 monitor and use gnome-display-properties to turn the netbook
screen off and use the monitor at full resolution. With Natty Alpha 3,
the same procedure gives me what appears to be a 1024x600 image of the
screen (desktop, decorations, background apps), pinned to the bottom of
the screen, leaving the top 1/4 of the monitor blank. However, the
visuals that are displayed only appear to respond...in part...to mouse
clicks on the part of the screen they should appear at. For example,
the Monitors applet displays a visual change when I click on a blank
spot about 2 inches above it, but does not respond when clicked on
directory.

This worked under both metacity and mutter using Maverick. During
installation (or just after the first boot) (with both monitors running)
I received a message saying that there was not enough memory for Compiz
to do something, but I cannot remember the exact text.

a non-capturing scanf directive to the PING_FORMAT declarations. (I've

[Bug 588155] Re: randomly gnome-settings-daemon fails to start

2011-01-07 Thread Ron S
In maverick I have had this bug happen to me on several occasions on boot up.
logging out and logging back in fixes the problem.
I have noticed this only happens to me after updating but only after an update
where it say ureadahead will be re-profiled at next
boot up . Since noticing this every update that forces re-profiling has caused
this problem but only on my pc and not my laptop.
PC uses nvidia driver 260.19.06 while laptop uses ati driver.

[Bug 612083] Re: package rhythmbox 0.11.5-0ubuntu8.8.04.2 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 134

This bug was not an issue for me, it occurred when I upgraded online
from 8.04 to 10.04 and was asked to file a bug. I did not follow it up
but now I find that Rhythmbox is installed and working normally on
10.04. When I checked in 10.10 (Maverick) Rhythmbox was not installed so
I have installed it and it appears to be working normally. 10.10 was an
online upgrade from 10.04. As far as I am concerned the bug can be

 Status in Compiz: Invalid
Status in Desktop panel for GNOME: New
 Status in Indicator Applet: Invalid
Status in “gnome-panel” package in Ubuntu: Triaged

 Bug description:
Binary package hint: gnome-panel, nm-applet, etc...

 SUMMARY:

After graphical logon notification area gets scrambled. Icons are in terrible
mess. Some of them are overlapping others. Sometimes network manager icon is
missing. Sometimes phantom icons show up. They can be clones of any other
icons in the notification area. Bug affects any graphics card: ATI, nVidia,
 Intel...

WAY TO FIX IT FOR THE CURRENT SESSION:

When you get your icons distorted right-click on the affected panel (not
icons) click Properties. In Panel Properties change panel orientation to
Left or Right and back to Top or Bottom. In my case all icons are
displayed properly, but one (nm-applet) is missing.

 WORKAROUND 2:

Right click the Gnome panel and remove the offending applets and re-add them,
 i.e. Indicator Applet, etc.

[Bug 601374] Re: gnome-panel top panel dissapear after reboot

2010-07-03 Thread Ron Asor
for now im just running a script iv'e built anytime it dissapears

##!/bin/bash
echo So.. your top bar disappeared again, huh? Please wait while i fix
it..
sleep 4
gconftool-2 --type string --set
/apps/panel/toplevels/top_panel_screen0/orientation right
sleep 5
gconftool-2 --type string --set
/apps/panel/toplevels/top_panel_screen0/orientation top
clear
echo Menu bar set successfuly!
sleep 4

and after couple of reboots it wont dissapear anymore.
I even thought of making it an autostart program with ubuntu load, the sleep
part between the gconf's is essential because if its done too fast it wont
allign the menu correctly (it'll show the bars vertically instead of
horizontally)

2010-07-03 Thread Ron Asor
for some afer running that script it wont disappear anymore, so I havnt
made it as a startup but, for some reason it fixed the disappearing
after reboot problem (its perma launching now.)

just sharing that script out, for the new guys, save it in a text file and run
it in a terminal.
good luck.

Re: [Bug 439448] Re: visual corruption affecting several panel applets

2010-06-04 Thread ron
For what it is worth did a clean install of 10.10 last night and
have missing wifi icon this morning ( also have trouble with monitor
selection going to default ---same image for both monitors ).

On Fri, Jun 4, 2010 at 8:22 AM, Christopher s...@kristal.ca wrote:

differences. It would be helpful to know what to look for, as I'm having
the additional problem of being unable to upgrade the test partition to

Doing a clean install would solve my problems, but it wouldn't help the
 testing process.

Binary package hint: gnome-panel, nm-applet, etc...

 SUMMARY:

After graphical logon notification area gets scrambled. Icons are in terrible
mess. Some of them are overlapping others. Sometimes network manager icon is
missing. Sometimes phantom icons show up. They can be clones of any other
icons in the notification area. Bug affects any graphics card: ATI, nVidia,
 Intel...

WAY TO FIX IT FOR THE CURRENT SESSION:

When you get your icons distorted right-click on the affected panel (not
icons) click Properties. In Panel Properties change panel orientation to
Left or Right and back to Top or Bottom. In my case all icons are
displayed properly, but one (nm-applet) is missing.

 WORKAROUND 2:

Right click the Gnome panel and remove the offending applets and re-add them,
 i.e. Indicator Applet, etc.

2010-05-23 Thread Ron O
I don't know if you call this a bug, but for me it is. And it has been
there for a very long time- at least since Feisty 7.04, and seems to be
important to a lot of people. I switched to Mozilla Sunbird because of
it, but now Sunbird is not available for Lucid. If I miss an
appointment because I was not on my system for a few days, I like to be
notified so I can apologize and reschedule. If it seems to matter to a
number of people, why is it so hard to fix?

Should I load brasero python files ?

[Bug 542331] [NEW] Add/Edit Contact does not save any info except from the first tab, e.g., Birthday or Address is not saved.

2010-03-19 Thread Ron Carlton
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Ubuntu 9.10
Evolution 2.28
Using Ubuntu One

Add or Edit Contact brings up dialog but only the information entered on
the first tab is saved. Entering addresses or birthdays should be saved
when the Add button is pressed. I have tried with a new contact and
editing an old one with the same result.

Once an address was saved and displayed after closing the dialog. But
after adding another contact the previous contact's data was deleted.

Restarting the app after rebooting does not restore the data. The first
