superior quality. There's no reason users should have the same

Re: [Bug 80856] Re: F-Spot as default for importing photos

2007-05-08 Thread Roshan Shariff
I also like F-spot better and think it is a better default, although
maybe the dependency on Mono makes it too big to fit on the single
 Live/Install CD.

F-spot is already included on the CD, since Edgy I think. Its utility
is diminished, however, because it is not the default app for
importing photos in Gnome. I don't see the point of it taking up space
on the CD if it isn't the default, since Ubuntu is supposed to include
only one best of breed program for each task.

[Bug 49567] Re: list view doesn't expand subfolder when clicking on arrow if entry is selected

2007-03-24 Thread Roshan Shariff
I can confirm this bug on the Feisty beta. It doesn't work most of the
time, but sometimes it does. This only happens in list view (in either
browser or spatial mode) but not in other trees (like the one in the
browser view side pane).

One way of reliably triggering it is to select a subdirectory, and
slowly slide your mouse towards the extender from the right until it
highlights. The extender is now unresponsive to clicks, indicating a
mismatch between the region where it highlights itself and where it
responds to clicks.

However, very often it fails to respond even when clicked squarely on
the arrow. Usually it'll start responding again after a lot of retries
and moving the mouse around.

All this is seen only on selected entries. Other entries work perfectly
every time.

[Bug 37861] Re: ipod reformated (to partition) cause that gtkpod open twice

2006-09-20 Thread Roshan Shariff
I can confirm this bug. The iPod ships with two partitions, sda1
(firmware) and sda2 (vfat, possibly hfs+). I resized sda2 and added
another ext2 partition sda3 for iPodLinux. HAL treats both sda2 and sda3
as iPod devices, when in fact it should treat sda3 as a normal USB drive
(i.e. g-v-m should start Nautilus, not Rhythmbox for it.)

The fix seems to be simple -- partitions other than the second on an
iPod should not be treated as belonging to a music player. The Apple
firmware itself totally ignores all other partitions.

[Bug 54777] Panel applets break auto-hide

2006-08-01 Thread Roshan Shariff
Public bug reported:

When a context menu is opened on panel applets or notification area
icons, and an option selected, the panel no-longer auto-hides.

Steps to Reproduce:

1. Set a panel to auto-hide

2a. Start Rhythmbox. Right click on its notification area icon and
select Play.

2b. Get the update-notifier to show its icon. Right click and select
Show Updates.

2c. Start Tomboy Notes. Right click on its notification icon and click
on Preferences, or left-click on it and open a note.

2d. Same as (2c) but with the Tomboy Notes panel applet.

2e. Right click on the Volume Control and select Open Volume Control.

2f. Right click on the clock and select Preferences.

2g. Same as above but with the Workspace Switcher

2h. Right click on the Trash applet and select About.

2g. Right click on the Deskbar applet and select Preferences.

Expected Result:

The panel auto-hides after completing any of the above.

Observed Result:

The panel does not hide itself until you mouse-over some part of it and
then move the mouse out of the panel again.

Counter-Examples:

This bug does not trigger on the context menus of the Drawer applet or
the Menu Bar

[Bug 36145] Re: hyphenation does not work after upgrade from breezy to dapper

2006-05-25 Thread Roshan Shariff
Martin Pitt says the latest Debian package fixes the problem, so the fix
is already known. I don't see the problem with it being uploaded to
dapper-updates. If the new version is released soon after Dapper,
everybody who installs tetex will get the fixed version, since the
dapper-updates repository is enabled by default. Even otherwise, the fix
will automatically be downloaded, so it's not really an issue.

I'm even hopeful it'll be fixed post-RC, since it isn't on the CD, but I
don't know if there are any technical problems with that.

I'm sorry, now I can't even reproduce the bug on my own. I managed to trigger

[xdmcp]
Enable=true

Then I restarted gdm. Now remote logins work properly. What's more, gdmsetup
now shows the Remote style as 'Same as Local.' On a whim, I tried disabling
remote logins through gdmsetup. It had no effect, and the gdm.conf-custom file
was unchanged.

Then I tried removing gdm.conf-custom so that remote logins would be disabled
again. gdmsetup still shows remote logins as enabled. Somehow gdmsetup is able
to find out the current settings gdm is using and not the settings stored in
the configuration file.

This bug happens even if deskbar was selected by clicking on it (i.e. not using
the hotkey)

This is annoying, since if I backspace too much, I have to click again on
deskbar to type in it.

[Bug 33510] xscreensaver and gnome-screensaver conflict

2006-03-04 Thread Roshan Shariff
Public bug report changed:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/33510

Comment:
I can see only one topic: the submitter wants xscreensaver to Conflict
with gnome-screensaver and vice versa, and he wants ubuntu-desktop to
Depend on gnome-screensaver or xscreensaver instead of gnome-screensaver
alone.
