[Bug 2061728] Re: Apps don't launch from GNOME Software
I was able to resolve this by following the instructions on this page : https://etbe.coker.com.au/2024/04/24/ubuntu-24-04-bubblewrap/ Basically create the file /etc/apparmor.d/bwrap with the following contents : abi , include profile bwrap /usr/bin/bwrap flags=(unconfined) { userns, # Site-specific additions and overrides. See local/README for details. include if exists } and execute 'systemctl reload apparmor' -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-software in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2061728 Title: Apps don't launch from GNOME Software To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-software/+bug/2061728/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 2025662] [NEW] mutter pauses for multiple seconds at random times
Public bug reported: Hi, I have this weird bug in mutter (44.2-0ubuntu1) which seems to correlate with uptime - if I kill mutter the problem seems to go away for a few days, although killing mutter is very inconvenient because all applications are also killed even with session persistence. Upon strace analysis it can be seen that when the pauses are happening there is a specific trace involving GEM operations happening immediately after a ~1 second epoll expires. During this state the entire UI is paused - video does not update, mouse cursor does not move, keypresses have no response. However, input events are "queued" so that when the pause ends, the mouse instantly warps across the screen, and if a key was down at the time the pause began, the key is repeated hundreds of times since it seems that the key-up event is only processed when the "pause" ends. The system is up to date 23.04 and mutter is using the Intel HD 530 integrated graphics. I do not believe this issue happened before 23.04 was released, although it has been intermittent and persistent since that time. Attached a strace with timestamps which provides an example of a multi- second pause. Using grep -A1 epoll_wait you can see the instances of the GEM operations during the pause. Eventually at around 09:40:57 local time in the trace the "pause" ended. [Bug 1996652] [NEW] Nautilus search is slow and jumbles keyboard input on 22.10
Public bug reported: Since my upgrade to 22.10, I've found the search box in Nautilus (files) essentially unusable. It is notably sluggish to launch and browse in general. But most detrimental to the usability is this: The characters do not appear in real time as I type. When they do appear, they are sometimes jumbled or in reverse (consistently reproducible). As I type in the file search box, the circular cursor spins intermittently, then the UI catches up and it's not what I typed. For example, I just typed "umbrella" into the search box, and Nautilus searched for: "umballer" Off-the-cuff test #2, searched for "Ubuntu" and I ended up with "Ubunut" ... you can't make this up. :-) Test #3, typed Launchpad, ended up with a search for "Laudaphcn". Keyboard input everywhere else on the system is otherwise normal and snappy. No pun intended, really. FWIW Nautilus files preferences are as default (Search in subfolders, Show thumbnails, File count == This computer only). $ apt-cache policy nautilus nautilus: Installed: 1:43.0-1ubuntu1 Candidate: 1:43.0-1ubuntu1 Version table: *** 1:43.0-1ubuntu1 500 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu kinetic/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status $ uname -r 5.19.0-23-generic $ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 22.10 Release:22.10 $ snap list Name Version RevTracking Publisher Notes bare 1.0 5 latest/stablecanonical✓ base core 16-2.57.2 13886 latest/stablecanonical✓ core core18 20221027 2620 latest/stablecanonical✓ base core20 20221027 1695 latest/stablecanonical✓ base gnome-3-34-18040+git.3556cb3 77 latest/stable/… canonical✓ - gnome-3-38-20040+git.6f39565 119latest/stablecanonical✓ - google-cloud-sdk 409.0.0 298latest/stable google-cloud-sdk✓ classic gtk-common-themes 0.1-81-g442e511 1535 latest/stable/… canonical✓ - snap-store 41.3-64-g512c0ff 599latest/stable/… canonical✓ - snapd 2.57.417336 latest/stablecanonical✓ snapd snapd-desktop-integration 0.1 14 latest/stable/… canonical✓ - Side question: Since this system has transitioned across several upgrades from 20.04 to 22.10, do I really need all of these core* and gnome* snaps? ** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: kinetic -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1996652 Title: Nautilus search is slow and jumbles keyboard input on 22.10 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/1996652/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1288655] Re: Terminal height shrinks - repeatedly restored shorter than the previous height
@martin-weinberg-5 I tried the dconf write as you suggested, and I did alt-F2 and "r" to restart Gnome, but it doesn't seem to have changed anything. ***As I wrote the above, I remembered that I'd left some terminal windows open during the process. I've re-tested but closed all windows before restarting Gnome and it *does* resolve the problem. However, I now have a menu bar on all my terminal windows. [Bug 1968627] [NEW] file saving dialog grows and grows with each additional file dialog
Public bug reported: This might be an issue with xdg-desktop-portal-gnome as well, I am using the Brave Browser and noticed this. I *think* it uses xdg-desktop- portal-gtk for the time being though. This is 22.04 Daily Build from April 9th updated. What happens: If you decide to save an image, the file save dialog pops up, provided by either xdg-desktop-portal-gtk or -gnome, this is fine. However, multiple instances of calling the file save dialog such as saving multiple images from a website will cause the dialog box to grow and grow every time it is called, leading to it stretching off the main screen onto my secondary (which is a portrait 1080x1920 monitor to the right of the main 2560x1440 monitor). This is super annoying because you never know where the window is going to appear, and at what size (well, I guess you do know that it is going to grow each time, but it is VERY inconsistent). I've attached a scaled down webm, in it I am downloading cat pictures from Google Image Search. For the first image, it shows how large it tends to get, and I resize it to a smaller size. Then, with each image that the dialog is brought up for, it grows and grows. [Bug 1968451] [NEW] GNOME launcher folder icons and labels very small
Public bug reported: Ubuntu 22.04 Daily Build from April 9th The default Utilities folder in GNOME Shell applications launcher (the screen that shows when you hit Super twice) are extremely small/tiny. I haven't seen this with other versions of GNOME shell on other distros with this version of GNOME that I have tested, so it may be a Ubuntu specific issue. I've attached a screenshot of the "Utilities" folder as it existed by default after install, I did however change the icon theme to a few different ones before noticing, but it persisted after switching back to Yaru Icon Theme. [Bug 1809685] Re: The evince application often freezes
I can confirm it happens to me also in 21.04. The PDF opens fine for me but the instant I hit print the evince process pegs the CPU and stays there indefinitely. After installing the deb (oddly asking me to downgrade to your supplied version) and logging back in, I was greeted with an error from my HP printer drivers saying there is no detected system tray and it's unable to start (attached). Discord and MegaSync still appear in the tray so I don't know what that's all about. The stutter/lag caused by discord still exists but it's MUCH improved. It's much harder to perceive, but it's certainly still there. I'd estimate the lags are 5-10x shorter in duration. I am testing on an AMD 5950X CPU so it's not caused by a lack of processing power. [Bug 1873052] Re: GNOME 3.36 Lands Scaled/Transformed Hardware Cursors Support and keeps another not scaled cursor mid screen
For anyone else affected by this bug, I've written a script that toggles the scaling mode back and forth to fix the problem and then restore your desired scaling mode on each monitor. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome- shell/+bug/1875404/+attachment/5361667/+files/xrandr-fix.sh Just set that script to run at login (e.g. by adding it to Startup Applications). Your screen will flicker momentarily on login, since the script is changing resolutions, but then the extra mouse cursor will be gone automatically. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to mutter in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1873052 Title: GNOME 3.36 Lands Scaled/Transformed Hardware Cursors Support and keeps another not scaled cursor mid screen To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mutter/+bug/1873052/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1870847] Re: App grid has too many page dots on right
I disabled the Ubuntu Dock extension using the Gnome Extensions app and tried to reproduce the bug, and the bug didn't happen anymore. When I installed the Dash to Dock extension by the Gnome Extensions site, and tried to reproduce the error, nothing wrong happened. I think that the bug is caused by the dock, and the version 68 of Dash to Dock fixed this bug. The Ubuntu dock is still in version 67. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1870847 Title: App grid has too many page dots on right To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-shell/+bug/1870847/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1875404] [NEW] Non-integer X11 scaling causes mouse from login screen to stick around
Public bug reported: If you enable fraction scaling and then login using an X11 session, the mouse cursor that existed on the login screen (gdm3) will persist after logging in. This mouse cursor continues to exist at the same pixel coordinates as when the login was completed. A new mouse cursor is then created for that login, which is controlled by the mouse. The original cursor that persisted from the login screen now becomes static and can no longer be moved. However, like any mouse cursor, it hovers over all windows and the desktop, which is quite distracting when the cursor is in the middle of the screen. This extra mouse cursor can be eliminated by switching to a non- fractional scaling mode. Once it is eliminated, you can then switch back to fractional scaling and the extra cursor will not return. Seeing this, I have worked around this issue by adding a startup script to my session that toggles the scaling mode between integer scaling and my desired fractional scaling mode. Obviously this adds a bit of extra flicker to the login process, though, so it's not ideal. Note that a similar bug has been reported previously (#1827428), but that bug was closed in the Ubuntu 19.04 EOL. [Bug 1870725] Re: artifacts appearing on gnome shell
I believed I narrowed down the issue to how gnome-shell uses Xorg. As said before GDM did not have any issues, and (i may be seriously wrong here) GDM uses Wayland by default. When I launch the Ubuntu desktop with Wayland, the graphical issue went away and is running smoothly. So I narrowed down the issue to Xorg or gnome-shell. So I went ahead and installed Cinnamon DE which uses Xorg, and the issue did not arise. My theory is that gnome-shell has a problem with rendering the shell (not programs) with Xorg. I also attached another image showing the problem, could the issue be the compositor??? ** Attachment added: "Screenshot from 2020-04-04 13-11-46.png" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1870725/+attachment/5346554/+files/Screenshot%20from%202020-04-04%2013-11-46.png ** No longer affects: ubuntu-meta (Ubuntu) ** Also affects: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1870725 Title: artifacts appearing on gnome shell To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1870725/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1787199] [NEW] wacom led toggle buttons assigned to opposite touch strips
Public bug reported: In Ubuntu 18.04.1, the button mappings for the Wacom Cintiq21ux2 touch strips are reversed. The Cintiq has 2 touch strips, 1 on each side of the Cintiq. Correlating with these touchstrips are toggle buttons, 1 for each. Every time the toggle button is pressed, one of 4 leds will light up, indicating a mode switch. The mode switch will change the button mappings of the touchstrip. What Ubuntu is doing, is mapping the wrong toggle button to the touchstrips. Instead of changing the mode to the touchstrip that is nearest to the button, it changes the touchstrip on opposite side of the Cintiq, making it useless. The file cintiq-21ux2.tablet in libwacom shows the diagram of the button mappings. A and J are reversed in Ubuntu 18.04.1. Button 'A' should correlate to 'a-A' touchstrip groupings, and J should correlate to 'b-B' groupings. [Bug 1734735] [NEW] [xenial] nm-openvpn continuously retries with bad password after receiving AUTH_FAIL locking out my account
Public bug reported: I have nm-openvpn configured via the network manager gui on Xenial with a saved password. My organization has a password expiration policy of X days. If I forgot to update the saved password for nm-openvpn and try to VPN in, nm-openvpn tries the connection, fails without notice in the UI and retries until I stop it. [Bug 1733162] [NEW] Epiphany creates an empty "OpenGL Renderer" window entry in the dock for every video embedded in a webpage.
Public bug reported: On Ubuntu 17.10, Epiphany (GNOME Web) creates an empty "OpenGL Renderer" window entry in the dock for every video embedded in a webpage. I wasn't sure where to report this. Probably an issue that could be fixed by blacklisting this by name from creating an entry on the dock? Testing is pretty easy. Open a youtube video and notice the empty window entry on the dock. Or (even better) scroll down a page with multiple videos and notice that a new "OpenGL Renderer" entry is created on the dock for each one. This is really aggravating with Facebook. [Bug 1673860] [NEW] systemd-resolved unit should run Before=network-online.target
Public bug reported: 1) Xenial, Yakkety and Zesty; (Xenial is affected if you're using networkd and resolved, but it's not the default) 2) 229-4ubuntu16, 231-9ubuntu3, 232-18ubuntu1 respectively to (1) 3) DNS resolution should be available once systemd has reached 'network-online.target' state 4) Sometimes systemd-resolved has not become active prior to network-online.target and DNS service is not available. The remaining issue for the systemd-resolved.service unit is that it needs to include a Before=network-online.target to ensure it's ordered to run before systemd reaches 'network-online.target' ** Affects: systemd (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to systemd in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1673860 Title: systemd-resolved unit should run Before=network-online.target To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/systemd/+bug/1673860/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1671951] [NEW] networkd should allow configuring IPV6 MTU
Public bug reported: 1) Zesty 2) systemd-232-19 3) I need to configure the IPV6 MTU for tunneling by adding an IPv6MTUBytes=1480 value in the .network file for an interface with an IPV6 static address in the [Network] section 4) networkd does not parse or read the value and does not apply this configuration to the interface. Upstream has discussed this issue here: https://github.com/systemd/systemd/pull/1533 But it's been closed in favor of only setting via RA. However, we know of multiple use-case which are currently supported in ifdupdown where we want to retain control over IPV6 MTU values outside of PMTU Discovery configurations. Some context from those discussions >> Client systems that route their ipv6 packets to a 6in4 router also >> have to have their ipv6 mtu lowered. They could lower their link mtu, >> so their ipv6 packets are small enough, but that reduces performance >> of their ipv4 network. Yes. Anything that creates a PMTUD black hole can result in situations where the higher header overhead of IPv6 will cause IPv4 to pass but IPv6 traffic to be dropped. One example here is egress from an ipsec tunnel wherein the next hop MTU is too low for IPv6 datagrams to pass. Another is VM -> whatever -> host bridge -> tunnel ingress. If the datagram cannot enter the tunnel due to size, it is dropped, and an ICMP response uses the tunnel address as a source, which may not be routable back to the origin. This one is an issue with IPv4 as well, and is one case where manually setting the IPv6 MTU lower than the (also manually set) device MTU is of benefit. In essence, any of these sort of cases that require an explicit setting of the device MTU will likely require a setting of the IPv6 mtu as well to account for its larger header overhead. ** Affects: systemd (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: curtin maas netplan -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to systemd in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1671951 Title: networkd should allow configuring IPV6 MTU To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/systemd/+bug/1671951/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1669564] [NEW] udevadm trigger subsystem-match=net doesn't always run rules

[Bug 1506744] Re: Newly installed applications do not show in the dash
The latest patch looks good to me, but with a couple of notes (no need to fix these): - using the _full() version of the timeout call is not necessary here - now that this patch is simplified it becomes easy to see how all of this is just putting values into one structure and then later moving them into another structure. It seems like we could have just used the first structure type, or even just fixed the other queue mechanism to add the delay. Oh well. [Bug 1506744] Re: Newly installed applications do not show in the dash
The patch in comment 42 is not acceptable, for two big reasons. First: you need to hold a ref on the GFile object when you put it into the info struct. This means that you cannot simply use g_free for the struct: you need to write a custom free func that handles the unref as well. Also: you can't cast g_source_remove() to a GDestroyNotify and expect that to work... one takes a pointer, and the other an int. This may randomly work on some architectures, sometimes, but you cannot rely on this. The entire act of keeping the list is slightly suspect. At the sprint I think I mentioned that it would be better to have one global timeout that is set (and reset) when any activity happens. The timeout would run after the activity died down, and it would handle all things together in one go. In that case, you'd still need a list, except for the info objects themselves. It's also fine to keep the list of the timeout IDs, but you can't free it in the way that you're doing in the current patch. Another nice approach, if you want to avoid running the callbacks after teardown: store a weak pointer to the main object in each of the info structs (g_object_add_weak_pointer). The info structs are then used as the user_data to the timeout (this assumes you keep the multiple timeouts). If you find the weak pointer to be empty, then just return without doing anything. That also means that you don't need to handle the "cleanup" -- it will happen automatically. It also means that you can avoid the custom free function if you are clever: the timeout will always run once, and you can do the cleanup from the normal handler (taking care regarding the early exit discussed above). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-menus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1506744 Title: Newly installed applications do not show in the dash To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/glib/+bug/1506744/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Basically Super modifier is always active when connected over VNC (or xrdp, as it uses VNC behind the scenes). FreeNX/X2Go don't seem to have this problem. Hi penalvch, Whether or not this works with xrdp probably depends on how your session is set up. I just tried installing gnome-session-flashback and xrdp on the vivid daily CD; the default configuration does nothing, but the following ~/.xsession: env DESKTOP_SESSION="gnome-flashback-metacity" XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP ="GNOME-Flashback:Unity" gnome-session --session=gnome-flashback --disable-acceleration-check does load the session. [Bug 1251281] Re: gnome-session-flashback/Unity fails to start without hardware acceleration in cloud/remote environments (Forwarded-X/XRDP/VNC/NX/X2GO/Chromoting)
I am happily running GNOME Flashback with the FreeNX server, and nx-libs from the X2Go stable PPA, on multiple Trusty terminal servers and it has been quite stable. The gnome-session --disable-acceleration-check option is needed, and also bug 1416081 has to be fixed to stop unity-settings- daemon from crashing. I have uploaded all the necessary patches to ppa:rtandy/flashback and attached them to these bugs. In the PPA I also patched gnome-session-flashback to use --disable-acceleration-check, but it's not really necessary -- just for symmetry :). Attached is the FreeNX config file I use. Note it relies on the Upstart session job to pass "--disable-acceleration-check" to gnome-session. For X2Go, /usr/bin/x2goruncommand has to be adjusted similarly; I will follow up to their tracker (http://bugs.x2go.org/cgi- bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=774) soon. I hope these patches can be considered for vivid, and maybe for trusty/utopic SRU as well.
