[Bug 2083025] [NEW] dash to shell crashes when resuming from sleep (opening lid and logging back in)

2024-09-27 Thread Sam Croot
Public bug reported:

Running dash to dock. When resuming from sleep, the dock shrinks to just
the ubuntu logo, clicking it opens but then crashes. Logging off then
back in resolves.

[Bug 2062082] Re: 24.04 Wayland vs Nautilus performance problem

2024-04-18 Thread Sam Bee
1. I have deleted the card0 file and restarted my machine. I still
experience the same slowdown using wayland, but not when logging in with
x11. The effects are still evident when opening a folder with nautilus,
when navigating the system settings, and when choosing a download
location for a file in Chrome, for example.

2. I include the journal.txt file you requested

3. Neither gnome-shell nor any other process has been observed to use
higher than 12% cpu while experiencing the issue

4. The information about my system drivers was obtained by going to the
system Settings app, then System > About > System Details > Copy. The
nvidia-utils-545 driver had to be installed when I reinstalled ubuntu
and upgraded to 24.04 beta recently, to make the graphics work properly.
I don't know what the zink Vulkan thing is - is that the name of the
firmware for my graphics card?

[Bug 1975557] Re: blank screen does not turn off display backlight

2023-11-25 Thread Sam Vervaeck
Just wanted to link to the following to comments I made for reference:

 -
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-raspi/+bug/1998716/comments/19
 -
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-settings-daemon/+bug/1971434/comments/42

I believe that for some people the KMS module may be the culprit. If I
connect an external monitor, this bug appears, but on my laptop monitor
everything works fine.

If anyone could share how to dig deeper into this I'd be grateful.

[Bug 1971434] Re: Display powersave only blanks, but does not turn off

2023-11-25 Thread Sam Vervaeck
For me the correct description of the bug was most likely given in [1].

When I use my laptop's screen, everything works fine. When I am using a
Philips 275E UHD display, the behavior described in this thread appears.

Chances are that the KMS driver is doing something wrong.

I couldn't find an item on the Linux Kernel mailing list that addresses
this (though it has been difficult to search). If someone knows more
about how to debug this and file an issue, I'm all ears.

[Bug 2022951] Re: Update mutter to 44.2

2023-06-17 Thread Sam Lane
On Ubuntu Budgie 23.04

- Started with a fully updated system
- Enabled proposed and installed libmutter-12-0/lunar-proposed
- version 44.2-0ubuntu1 installed
- rebooted
- tested login / logout
- ran common applications to ensure windows worked correctly (focus, minimize,
maximize, resize)
- changed resolutions, tested fractional scaling
- used the system how I would typically use it in my normal day to day scenario

I have not noticed any issues. The major problems I had with earlier
versions (clicking title bars not focusing the window / clicking well
outside the window registering as a click on the window) seem resolved.

[Bug 1986850] Re: Manual proxy is partially cleared on 20.04 => 22.04 upgrade

2022-08-31 Thread Sam
Possibly the 20.04.4 live system is also involved, because to my
knowledge setting a proxy via Settings/Network does not normally make
any changes to /etc/apt/apt.conf (i.e. you are not prompted for a sudo
password after setting a manual proxy in Settings/Network).

So I'm guessing the 20.04.4 live system made the apt.conf change since
apt requires it. (Note: some earlier versions of Ubuntu live systems did
not make the apt.conf change automatically; we had to do it manually
whenever we had to use proxies.)

In any case, whatever cleared the manual proxy setting from both user
accounts ideally shouldn't do that.

[Bug 1927100] [NEW] Slow file dialogs, open and save

2021-05-04 Thread sam tygier
Public bug reported:

On Ubuntu Mate 20.04.

Sometime the Open and Save dialogs in GTK applications will over 20
seconds to display.

I found https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gvfs/-/issues/485 , which
suggested this due to gvfsd-trash, and running `killall gvfsd-trash`
which does temporary solve the problem.

The issue is apparently fixed in gvfs 1.46.2

Please could 1.46.2 or the fix
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gvfs/-/merge_requests/96 be backported to
Ubuntu 20.04

[Bug 1896627] Re: Windows flicker when being resized with the mouse (Xorg sessions)

2021-02-26 Thread Sam Lane
After updating Ubuntu Budgie 20.10 today (5.8.0-44-generic #50-Ubuntu) I
notice this doesn't happen for me anymore. It is possible that it just
hasn't happened yet, but prior to today, I could reliably reproduce this
every time by resizing a window for a few seconds until flickering
started. I can't make this happen anymore, so fingers crossed...

Hello,
I have update the package like proposed and finaly all other proposed ones
too and I have exactly the same behavior than Jeremie Tamburini.
No more freeze, only drag n drop from/to Desktop to Nautilus doesn't work.
A good first step! : )
Thanks and merry christmas.

Same issue for me, I can't drag and drop since last upgrade to 20.10.
For instance, drag file(s) from Desktop and drop to an open directory doesn't
work.
...But drag file from Desktop and drop to an icon closed directory work.

[Bug 1896654] [NEW] Windows flicker when resizing with mouse

2020-09-22 Thread Sam Lane
Public bug reported:

When resizing a window with the mouse by dragging the edge or corner,
the window begins to flicker. It only flickers when actively being
resized, and when I stop dragging, it looks normal. This behavior is
does not occur on same pc in 20.04. Sometimes the flickering is black,
sometimes the flickering makes the wallpaper visible, even when there is
a window behind the window being resized.

[Bug 112518] Re: Switch User freezes at blank screen

2020-09-06 Thread Sam Shiell
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 160264 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/160264

I have this exact bugg on Kubuntu 20.4 LTS.

It's not the same as #160264 as (like other people here) I get a black
screen, not a white one.

No response from any Fn+Fx keys, only fix is a hard boot.

[Bug 1085706] Re: pam_ecryptfs: seteuid error

2020-02-26 Thread Sam
I'm seeing this currently on one of my two Linux Mint 19.3 installations
(both are on the same system).

I usually use a keyboard shortcut to lock the desktop and blank the screen, the
command it runs is the following:
bash -c "cinnamon-screensaver-command -l; sleep 8s; xset dpms force off; "

This has always worked, but now on one of the installations it blanks
the screen but after a while wakes up again without me doing anything.
The only thing out of the ordinary I see in the journal (that I don't
see on the secondary installation) is that every time I locked the
screen this happens:

Sender: cinnamon-screen
Message: pam_ecryptfs: seteuid error

So I guess this could be related to what causes the screen to wake, and
I have no idea why. So I'm in the process now of making a fresh
reinstall and then gradually install/test the stuff I use to try and
narrow down what causes this.

[Bug 1771880] Re: Seahorse unable to import pkcs12 certificates

2019-01-25 Thread Sam Weis
> Seahorse does not support .p12 certificates. It supports GPG and SSH
> certificates.
I believe this statement and the categorization of the issue as "wishlist" to
be incorrect.

On a Debian stretch system with seahorse 3.20.0 this issue does not exist.
I can import *.p12 certificates. There, seahorse has the following categories:
Passwords
Certificates
PGP keys
Secure Shell

In "Certificates" there is "Gnome2 Key Storage". This is where the *.p12 certs
go on stretch.
On my Ubuntu box this category does not exist.
So I guess it is an issue of missing packages or misconfiguration rather than
an upstream bug.

2017-10-26 Thread Sam Thomas
I am having the same issue with Ubuntu 17.10 running on XORG. This is a
VM inside vmware fusion pro 10. The mouse can move around but the clicks
dont work anywhere. I start a terminal session with ctrl + alt + t and
then alt + tab and then click on the terminal that i opened earlier for
the clicks to start working again.

2017-05-14 Thread Sam Korson
Thanks for the reply but my issue seems to have been resolved now either
way; I just noticed that there were some "system updates" available from
inside Software and I installed those and rebooted. I can now install
.deb files without problems. Great!

[Bug 1672424] Re: Cannot install Debian files outside of the repositories

2017-05-14 Thread Sam Korson
Hello,

I still cannot install .deb packages in Software under Ubuntu 17.04,
even after enabling zesty-proposed and updating and restarting my
computer this morning. I also tried installing gconf2 as suggested by
other posts in this topic. I tested trying to install the .deb package
opera-stable (opera-stable_44.0.2510.1449_amd64.deb downloaded from
their site). The install button reacts to me clicking it but nothing
else happens, no longer how long I wait (waited at least 15 minutes). I
also tried the instructions in post #8 saying to invoke gnome-software
from the command line using an absolute path for the file: gnome-
software --local-filename=/home/sam/Downloads/opera-
stable_44.0.2510.1449_amd64.deb. Please advise me as to what else I
should try. Also, this is on a fresh install of Ubuntu; the only thing
I did before trying to install this package is configure my system
settings the way I wanted everything.

Thanks,
Sam

[Bug 1641867] [NEW] GtkMenu: Submenu navigation triangle doesn't work

2016-11-15 Thread Sam Douglas

The navigation triangle code for keeping a submenu open when the mouse
is moving diagonally toward it is broken due to incorrect rounding.

This was reported upstream at:

The attached patch (also submitted upstream) rounds the cursor location
when calculating the navigation triangle bounds.

[Bug 1623666] Re: iOS10 will not connect to Ubuntu

2016-11-13 Thread Sam Gleske
J McDonald, I recommend you learning more about public key
infrastructure. Essentially, encryption and security have different
options available to it (called algorithms and parameters to said
algorithms). libimobiledevice, using the GnuTLS library, specified
incompatible options for it to work in iOS 10. When it was built with
another library (OpenSSL instead of GnuTLS), it worked.

TL;DR Ubuntu used GnuTLS version of libimobiledevice which had the bug
and said bug has was fixed in libimobiledevice.

I actually discovered the root cause. GnuTLS doesn't work with iOS.

[Bug 1623666] Re: iOS10 will not connect to Ubuntu

2016-10-31 Thread Sam Gleske
The libimobiledevice package for Ubuntu was built with --disable-openssl
which forces GnuTLS. GnuTLS does not work with the recent iOS10 update.

Solution: rebuild the package so that it links against OpenSSL again.
This will resolve issues connecting to iOS 10 devices.

I tested the latest development version of GnuTLS (@ commit
1e84b90feed97ee458b7113665300e6bc444798f of master HEAD) and it does not
work with iOS 10 devices.

[Bug 1621539] Re: Unable to schedule "PM" events in Gnome Calendar 3.20.2

2016-09-14 Thread Sam Williams
Hey Jeremy and Chris!

Just download and checked your Gnome calendar fix and it now works as I
would expect. Before I wasn't seeing an "AM/PM" indicator and just
assumed it would change as you advanced time. Now I see it and have the
ability to use it without issue.

I also have the ability to created a calendar entry that spans multiple
days, but starting and ending at a particular time.

I just noticed one thing that I missed before. It may not have been
included in this version of the calendar application. I don't see the
ability to set a repeating or recurring event. So for now it looks like
I would need to go and manually set the recurrence.

Otherwise you definitely fixed the problem that was causing me issues.
Thanks for all your work and effort.

All the best!
Sam Williams

[Bug 1621539] Re: Unable to schedule "PM" events in Gnome Calendar 3.20.2

2016-09-09 Thread Sam Williams
Sebastien I have some other information for you.

- how do you add the event (using the menu, clicking on a day)
I am adding the day directly from the Calendar interface. I click on a day and
add it that way. It appears I see the same problem from the menu too.

- what view mode do you use?
Not sure what you mean by view mode, but the Calendar is display a Month at a
time

- do you get the issue in a guest session?
I have tried the guest session and another account on the current machine and
both work, but both are set to a 24h clock. They don't have the "AM/PM"
indicator displayed.

Good Luck!

[Bug 1432122] [NEW] mountall service unavailable on systemd, preventing full zfs integration

2015-03-14 Thread Sam VdE
Public bug reported:

I am test-driving Vivid and made the switch to systemd. I'd like to
report that the mountall service is now unavailable.

root# systemctl status mountall
 mountall.service
   Loaded: masked (/dev/null)
   Active: inactive (dead)

root# ll /lib/systemd/system/mountall.service
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 9 Mar 11 11:22 /lib/systemd/system/mountall.service ->
/dev/null

Per https://github.com/zfsonlinux/pkg-zfs/issues/132 I assume this is
what is keeping all of my zfs filesystems from being automounted at
boot.

Things worked fine with upstart.

[Bug 1431523] [NEW] zfs not automounting after upgrading from upstart to systemd

2015-03-12 Thread Sam VdE
Public bug reported:

I am testdriving systemd on Ubuntu 15.04 with zfs as root filesystem.
The system works great, however it seems the systemd initscripts are not
installed on my system, leaving one zpool exported and a few filesystems
unmounted at boot. This worked fine with upstart.

When looking at the dkms folders I can see the scripts were pulled correctly
from git (at least I assume that's why the're there):
ll /var/lib/dkms/zfs/0.6.3.0/build/etc/systemd/system
total 58
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 11 mrt 10 22:32 ./
drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 5 mrt 10 22:32 ../
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 6 mrt 10 22:30 50-zfs.preset.in
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 6 mrt 10 22:32 Makefile
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 6 mrt 10 22:30 Makefile.in
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 6 mrt 10 22:30 zed.service.in
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 6 mrt 10 22:30 zfs-import-cache.service.in
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 6 mrt 10 22:30 zfs-import-scan.service.in

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 6 mrt 10 22:30 zfs.target.in

I can test things to help out, however I have no developer skills
(automake/make/autoconfigure/...). E.g. I have no idea if I could deploy
those files manually to test.

[Bug 1396151] [NEW] password not checked on screen unlock

2014-11-25 Thread Sam
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

Public security bug reported:

On a system upgraded from 12.04 to 14.04:

When "don't ask for password on login" is checked for a user, previous
screen locking would still require a password - the preference only
applied to logins.

Now light locker(?) is showing a password dialog box, but it will accept
any (or no) password for screen unlock, just as for login.

This might be a good change, but it was surely unexpected, and I found
the previous functionality (being able to NOT require the PW for login
but still require it for screen unlock) very useful, even if it might
seem odd on the surface.

[Bug 1246272] Re: Keyboard layout changing randomly

2014-08-09 Thread Sam M
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1240198 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1240198

I have the same issue (Ubuntu 14.04 with Unity):
Swith between 'fr' and 'en'
After boot my keyboard layout seems ALWAYS ok since I was able to connect with
my old password (Note: I changed it, but the old one contained char which had a
different position like 'a<->q' depending on the layout): It means that the
layout is always 'fr' after startup by randomly changes to 'en' after login.
(So I do: setxkbmap fr when this happens)
Moreover when I put my machine to idle, and then when I want to connect back,
the layout is random too (so my old password didn't always worked)
I hope the precisions I just gave will help solve the problem ...

I have the same issue with Ubuntu 14.04 64bit, with the latest updates,
on an Inspiron 1525 Dell laptop. In addition to the "a;ready mounted"
error message, I am unable to record any DVD. Even after Brasero says
the recording session is completed, the DVD remains blanc. I've tried
other programs as well. As it stands now, I am unable to burn any DVDs
on the Dell laptop I am using.
