Marking the bug invalid here. As it was pointed out in the gnome bug,
this is the expected behaviour. The terminal title is set when creating
the profile. So locale changes don't affect the title.

[Bug 255242] [NEW] Window title doesn't respect LC_MESSAGES

2008-08-06 Thread Sami Haahtinen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-terminal

The window title in gnome-terminal doesn't respect the LC_MESSAGES
variable while the rest of the text in gnome-terminal does. This can
easily be reproduced by setting the following:

LANG=fi_FI.UTF_8
LC_MESSAGES=en_US.UTF-8

and by running something that doesn't change the window title. My zsh
setup does change it so i tested by running a single application within:
gnome-terminal -e alsamixer

tested with 2.23.4.2-0ubuntu2

2008-08-04 Thread Sami Haahtinen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

Rhythmbox 0.11.6 crashes on initial startup after upgrade. The problem
appears to be in the URI canonicalisation as this is the last message in

[Bug 203910] [NEW] bashism in f-spot-sqlite-upgrade

2008-03-19 Thread Sami Haahtinen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: f-spot

f-spot-sqlite-upgrade tries to use /bin/sh as the interpreter while it
uses bash like commands.

Either the interpreter should be changed to /bin/bash or the script
modified so that it works without it. The apparent culprit is the use of
>& in the sqlite tests.

This applies at least to hardy

[Bug 21270] Re: Volume applet should change according to default sound card.

2007-01-03 Thread Sami Haahtinen
I can confirm this in a way. I think the nature of the problem changed
slightly. With recent Feisty i set all audio outputs (and the capture)
to USB audio, which was plugged in after the system booted.

All new applications use the USB Headset correctly, but applet still
follows the default audio device. The whole issue is even more complex
now that the new audio configuration panel was introduced, one could
have more than one default audio output, which one should the applet
control?

I've applied the patch locally and i've been using it for an hour or so.
Usually the bug strikes a couple of times in the first hour.

So far i've been unable to loose focus with the patch.

[Bug 57344] Re: [Edgy] Focus doesn't always follow window selection

2006-08-30 Thread Sami Haahtinen
Here are the values:

/apps/metacity/general/focus_mode: sloppy
/apps/metacity/general/focus_new_windows: smart

It's hard to take a screenshot of it as the only visual indication is
the cursor in gnome-terminal (in other apps it will just appear as
missing cursor)

It's not gnome-terminal specific, just a minute ago it appeared with
gajim and now it appeared with firefox.

Oh and correction to my previous entry, alt-tab doesn't break. Things
only break when changing windows with a mouse.

Normally i use "focus follows mouse" but i tried with other focus modes
too and it appears to be consistent with other focus modes too. (i'll
get the exact values for you later)

It would appear that it makes no difference how you toggle the windows.
I was able to reproduce this with clicking with mouse and by using
alt-tab. I didn't try toggling from the panel.

[Bug 57344] [Edgy] Focus doesn't always follow window selection

2006-08-22 Thread Sami Haahtinen
Public bug reported:

With the latest metacity (1:2.15.34-0ubuntu1) the focus doesn't always
follow to the selected window. At the moment I'm able to reproduce this
with a few tries.

Steps to reproduce:
1. open two gnome-terminals
2. toggle between the two windows with mouse (alt-tab appears to work normally)

you should be able to spot the problem even without typing if you pay
attentio to the cursor (which will be a solid block when window has
focus and outlined box when there is no focus)

Actually, this is wrong.

It will display a big fat warning (as it should) and it attempts to
build without the new system, but even still it will call dh_pycentral.
if you take a look at the patch, it will become quite obvious why this
happens. The cdbs makefile only tests if DEB_PYTHON_SYSTEM matches
pysupport and assumes that pycentral is the only other logical choice
without taking in to account that there might be cases where this if
clauses are hit without DEB_PYTHON_SYSTEM being defined.

So, even if cdbs is supposed to fall back to building with the old
system, it will build with an uninitialized pycentral support instead.

it should say:

Public bug reported:

Affects: control-center (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
gnome-sound-properties appears to always select the first soundcard as
the default card even if another card has been selected.

This might be due to the fact that my USB headset gets the id 'default'
that is confusing it.

here is a part of the .asoundrc.asoundconf:
!defaults.pcm.card default
defaults.ctl.card default
defaults.pcm.device 0
defaults.pcm.subdevice -1

That configuration works as it is supposed to, but when g-s-p is
launched it shows ICH6 (the other audio device) as the current audio
device.

It is also worth mentioning that actually re-selecting the other card
requires me to change the selection to the USB headset and then back to
ICH6 before closing the dialog.

My best guess is that it's not about when it's started in the boot
process, but whether or not gettys are started before the dialog. the
dialog is launched in to first available tty but the tty is not locked.

my guess is that if gdm was able to lock the tty that is used to launch
the dialog so that getty would wait for it to become available, the
problem would go away.

But this is just guesswork nothing more.

Description:
The "Failed to start X" screen appears on tty2, which is OK by itself.
But when the boot process finishes init will launch a getty on top of
the "Failed to start X" screen.

There are interesting side effects for this, if the user logs in the
session works just fine until the user presses tab. At that point the
gdm dialog will take precedence and hijacks the tty.

Long story short, it might be good to launch the dialog to some other
tty, the initial idea (AFAIK) was to launch the dialog in last+1 tty,
but since gdm startup was moved up in the boot up, tty2 is not occupied
at the time of the error itself.

This has been checked with Dapper (upgraded from Breezy)
